It was always stored on the main floor. Never in the basement or garage. It was cleaned and polished on a fairly regular basis. It has not dried out. It was hand carved in the late 17th to early 18th century as the attached professional antique appraisal from 1966 indicates. There are approx. 24 carved griffins, faces and "Gargoyle-Lion Mask Motifs". The entire front, back, top and sides (including under sides) are hand carved, "All Exposed Surfaces". This amazing desk retains the original finish and shows areas of wood separation but in my opinion the desk is in excellent condition for being untouched for approximately 300 years. I believe this one of a kind desk is worthy of any museum where it could be displayed with a 360 degree view. This piece is incredible!
