Large Antique Oak Roll Top Desk Vintage Very Nice
For sale is a very nice classic antique roll top desk. This desk is in excellent shape and all original. It is quarter sawn white oak and measures 65.5 across x 35.5 inches deep- uncommonly large for a vintage roll top desk. It stands 51 inches tall with the superstructure in place. I purchased the desk from an antique store in Pueblo. Colorado about 10 years ago and was told that it came from an attorney's office from Westcliffe, CO. I am no antique expert and can't estimate the age- only clue is the lock hardware that states a patent date of December 1884 and inscribed with"Corbin Cabin Lock Co. We are converting our home office into a bedroom and no longer need it. I have kept it regularly moisturized with Howard Feed-N-Wax wood preserver. All drawers are original and appear to have never been repaired or altered. The roll ... moretop is in excellent shape including the underside material and rolls smoothly to close and locks securely. Mail slots on each side(for after hours mail delivery if desk is closed and locked) see photos. Keys are included. Amazing antique roll top letter cabinet. This lovely piece was found at an estate sale in Virginia. Constructed of both red and white oak. It has a wonderful patina and a southern country look. Hand made with dovetail joinery. This piece probably dates to about 1870. The round head brads were likely added later to tighten it up. It has obviously been refinished but not"skinned" Roll top operates smoothly. Condition is excellent for its age. Has some small age cracks and wear, see pics. Beautiful Antique Roll Top Lap Desk. Writing Slope Up for your consideration is this truly beautiful antique lap desk. Made of wood. I am uncertain of the actual type of wood but has nice graining. This is just great in every way, it is intact and very secure when completely shut and when you pull out the drawer at the front, it will open the roll top portion in the back to expose a three section area inside. Once the roll top is open, you can unfold the desk portion which flips open from back to front and leans securely on the open drawer for stability, the desk has a purple or a worn blue felt top with brass hinges. Again, the wood is very nice inside and out, the drawer opens nicely as does the roll top portion. There is a large transfer decoration on the wood desk top, there is also the very slight remains of one on the top of the roll ... moretop framed area. There are only two areas with minor problems, first is the lower right corner which is missing a small corner wood piece, and the upper left corner of the framing of the roll top where there is also a small piece of wood missing; otherwise, working very well and looking very good. There is a brass lock in place for the drawer but no key and the hinges are brass as well and seem to be original. It measures 12 1/8" wide, 9 1/4" deep, 5 1/2" tall. It is very clean, no major breaks, cracks, or discoloration. Nice patina, nice scroll design in wood at the top roll top framing, transfer decoration is wearing and almost gone on the top portion, and of course, the two missing pieces mentioned earlier. This is a unique item. Has been in family for over 100 years. Story is that it was made by F.L. Shafer Company in Chicago for the owner(who was somehow related to me by marriage) Definitely a custom roll top desk. It is all cherry with bird's eye maple inlays on the raised panels on the sides and drawers. The top has the most amazing wood inlay. The top has been covered in glass since the day it was made. It has no scratches. The roll top goes up and down smoothly. All the drawers slide in and out smoothly as well. Desk is original. It has never been re-finished. It is 62" wide, 27.5" deep and 46" high. It has been in my possession for about 30 years. We are downsizing and just don't have room to bring this piece along. This nice. Rare, mahogany, roll top desk with legs gives it a lighter, refined look. It has lots of cubbies, drawers with wood adjustable dividers, slots and shelves. Also typewriter"hideaway" shelf. Two corner"braces" are actually drawers. Bottom 2 right hand drawers are one deep drawer. Some scratches to desk top surface and front of typewriter shelf face. Sterling Desk Company Antique Roll Top Desk with FREE Antique Chair
This is a gorgeous piece in overall good. Antique condition. I did some research on the Sterling Desk Company and determined that it was opened in Cedar Rapids, Michigan in the early 1900s, quite possibly 1909, and closed in 1917. When the roll top is closed there is a mechanism that locks all of the drawers, however the lock on the roll top itself is missing. This is a very large, heavy piece. Any potential buyer would need to consider this when picking up as there will be no help for loading. I have a rather large selection of antique wooded chairs varying in size. Style, and condition. Cutler& Sons roll top desk. This is a very rare antique desk accessory marked A. Cutler& Sons Buffalo. New York with a pat. date of 1884. It is in excellent condition and would allow the owner to have his pens and inks ready and able to be switched by simply rotating the cast iron holder. There is a catch on one end that would allow you to hook this to a drawer or possibly there was another spot on the desk to attach. I do not know the exact age but believe it was around the late 1920's. I do know that the desk was stripped of its original stain and clear coated to bring back its original true oak color. And the drawer pulls were replaced, in the late 1980's. The desk show the normal wear for its age. A few of the wood slats appear to be loose but all are present and intact. One of the Front legs of the desk has a wood gouge. There is a small blue plastic pen holder that is glued down inside of desk(the pen is missing) There is NO chair with this desk. The overall dimensions is 15”deep by 20 1/2” wide and 33 1/2” tall. The interior of the desk is 12 1/2” deep and 17 1/2” ... morewide. There are 4 cubicles inside of the desk each measuring 3 1/2” deep by 3 1/2” wide. The drawer 11 1/2” deep and 15 1/4” wide and 1 1/2” high. Many use these as decorative displays for plants. Antique French Roll Top Carved Desk 19th Century Beautiful
Up for auction this week is a nice 19th century French roll-top desk that I purchased from an antique furniture dealer on eBay three years ago. I must sell this desk to make space in my office for other furniture. I am not a furniture expert in an sense of the word. But can assure you this piece is late Victorian and original. The desk appears to have a burl mahogany veneer, but it is difficult for me to tell whether the wood is mahogany. I suspect it might in fact be walnut. The desk is in overall fair-good condition for its age. There are many spots where there have been nicks, dings, and scratches(all commensurate with age) and you can probably notice many of them in my photo gallery. The previous owner attempted to clumsily color in a few areas of missing wood with a modern repair'pen' There are also ink stains in one of the secretary ... moredrawers where the pens were likely stored by previous owners over the years. Nevertheless, the desk is still solid, beautiful, and functional after many, many years of service. It is a magnificent example of late victorian period furniture. The desk has its original hardware and came with a plethora of keys. The keys work and lock the cabinets in the upper gallery, but they do not seem to be able to lock the drawers in the desk proper. This desk has ample space for storage as you can hopefully see from my photographs. If you have a home or an apartment with limited space, one bit of good news is that this desk is comprised of three separate pieces for ease of transport; the large base, the roll-top, and the upper gallery/curio cabinet. The overall height of the piece is 72 inches, and the maximum width of the piece is 46 inches. Interestingly, the desk also has two leather-top side leaves on either side that extend outward another 20 inches. This desk is fully functional with a very nice leather-top writing surface that extends outward to allow a greater work space. Antique Vintage Roll Top Tambour Desk with Chair.
An older an HEAVY rolltop desk. The rough measurements are 5ft by 2/12ft by 4ft. Some chips on the corners but overall in great condition. Has a lock and key for one of the drawers and a lock for the roll top part. I dont have the key for that lock so I took it off but it comes with the desk. SECRET DOOR AND CHAIR This desk was purchased for the 1905 opening of Philadelphia's Northest High School for Manual Trades at 8th and Lehigh Ave. Later. The school became Northeast High School for Boys until a new Northeast High opened in 1957. Then the building was renamed Edison High School. In 1966 I rescued this desk from the school incinerator. In 1972 I had it refurbished and used it for the next 40 years at home. The desk is 50" wide and 48" high. It has deep drawers. A working lock and a secret door on the lower right side. The roll up sticks a bit on the way up, but otherwise operates smoothly. The desk surface is a bit rough and there are definite but minor signs of age. this is a nice cute old set. it is a childs size roll top desk with the original matching chair. it is hard to have them both together in one place. the desk is stamped on the back paris mfg co no. 641 south paris. The canvas backing for the roll top is marked as follows: PIEDMONT MANF. CO. DRILLS. Piedmont Manufacturing Company was a South Carolina textile manufacturer that was in operation from about 1873 to about 1977. Please see the pictures. The desk is predominantly made of oak. The drawer backs and other structural parts are made of softer wood. There is a column of 4 drawers on the right with a wooden locking mechanism in back. The desk top with lifting panel that exposes a spring-loaded swing-up typewriter platform. And pigeon holes with 5 drawers(one labeled Coal Orders) In one drawer is a fragment of paper with 1920s dates. I don't know if that is original to the desk or not. The slightly serpintine roll top has the original working lock and the original key(a cool one- see pictures) The lifting panel lock and the drawer lock is lacking the key. Knee hole 20 1/2" wide x 24 3/4" high at mid point. This desk has been completely restored at some point in the past and is fully functional. Some drawer are slightly tighter in their movements than others. But all are in working order. The top portion of the desk has twenty-eight(28) drawers and twelve(12) slots. There are some crayon marks on the inside of the drawers from the child who previously owned this desk but other than that there are not any blemishes on this desk what so ever.
