Bartholomew Published London: The Times Printing House. 1922. Cartographer J.G. Bartholomew. Cartographer to the King. Size/ Format 22.5" x 17.5" 57.6 cm x 44.8 cm) One fold in the centre. The margins are clean and range form 0.5" to 0.8" 1-2 cm) on all sides. These maps were all'tipped in' to the atlas. Which means they can easily be removed as a single sheet with a fold in the centre. Condition Very good. The colors are bright and fresh. The maps themselves. And the margins, are very clean. There are no tears, stains, discolorations or soiling whatsoever. The atlas from which these maps were removed did NOT spend its life at a public library. It was part ... moreof a private collection and was treated very well. Remarks The publication of the Times Survey Atlas in 1922 was the culmination of six years of painstaking work and. These are 1931 maps of Mexico. They are from a scarce Cram's Atlas. The maps measure 11.25 X 15 inches. They are in near mint condition showing only minor handling. Buyer will get a printed out page size copy of the index page. This is superior to any"Certificate of Authenticity" which are normally printed out on the sellers own computer. Only 3 copies in public libraries(Worldcat. 2014) Emily Edwards(October 7. 1888– February 16, 1980) was a co-founder and first president of the San Antonio Conservation Society. She was an artist. Historian and teacher, and a lifelong friend of Diego Rivera. She is remembered as being a key figure in preventing the paving over of the part of the San Antonio River that is now known as the San Antonio River Walk. From early on. Edwards exhibited promise as an artist. She trained ... morewith known artists of her time. She took classes from Pompeo Coppini in Texas, and Diego Rivera in Mexico. She also trained with Harry Mills Walcott, John Vanderpoel, Ralph Clarkson and Enella Benedict. She enrolled in the Art Institute of Chicago in 1905, and also became an employee of the institute. At Hull House, she taught art classes to young women, and also taught art classes at the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago until 1917. The next several years she taught at schools in San Antonio and in West Virginia. She expanded her creative skills by working as a stage designer in New York City, and performing as a puppeteer in Massachusetts. In the 1930s, she was Hull House's artistic director Edwards began spending extended periods in Mexico in 1925. She took classes from Diego Rivera. And remained a friend of his throughout the rest of his life. In all, Edwards spent a decade off and on in Mexico, practicing her craft and researching the Mexican influence on the art world. Showing various businesses and public buildings, was created in 1935 by the renowned Guatemalan artist, Carlos Merida(1891-1984) and was published by the well known Frances Toor Studios. See history below. The map. Measuring 20" x 25" is folded in its original decorated envelope(10.5" x5" The inset map shows regions around Mexico City. There is a border of thirteen suburban neighborhoods. Each titled and with a motif from Aztec or colonial symbols(see Note in the lower left of the map) The map is in excellent condition with no holes or fraying. At various points in his career, Merida’s work reflected the Maya and Zapotec heritage of his native village, geometric designs, elements of Surrealism, and an interest in various art mediums, like glass. American-born Frances Toor(1890-1956) became interested in Mexico’s indigenous cultures and folk traditions while traveling in Mexico in the early 1920s as she worked on her Master’s thesis. In 1925 in Mexico City she started the bilingual cultural magazine‘Mexican Folkways. which remained in publication for 12 years. Huge Vintage Cram's Pull Down Cloth School Map Mexican War Compromise of 1850
Beautiful pull down school map by George F. Cram dating back to the 1960s. There are 2 maps depicted; Mexican War& Compromise of 1850 and Territorial Expansion to 1854. This is a canvas/cloth map that measures about 51"x 78" WITHOUT the hem. It includes mounting bracket(no screws) and wood pole and operates easily and without issue. I found no holes. Tears, significant markings, creases or water damage. There is some light black marks in the center, likely from the roller, an extremely faint chalk line and slight soil along the bottom edge of the map with a little flaking at the end. The colors are very bright and vibrant, there are no smells at all, no yellowing, just a fabulous map. You will not be disappointed with the overall condition of this old map. This map.
