1851 Olney's School Atlas 17 Maps Texas, U.S., Florida,Europe,N.Y., California
Up for your consideration: A very rare atlas fresh from an estate in Canisteo New York. It is from the year 1851 and is the famous. OLNEY'S SCHOOL ATLAS. This is an atlas that rarely survived due to it's soft cover and also because it received a great deal of use. The Atlas is filled with 17 rare color engraved maps. Most of them from the year 1844. Most of the maps are two-paged measuring 12" by 19" The map of the U.S. shows the Oregon Territory, and also shows California as"Upper California" covering a huge area that now includes Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, and Colorado. Great historical significance. Most copies of this atlas have had the maps removed and sold individually. This one has the 17 maps. The condition of this Olney's Atlas is very good. I have not found any that are this good. There is ... morescattered foxing but on the maps it is generally just on the borders when it is there and not on the map proper. The opening pages which contain charts of general statistics and census type information have the most foxing. Please look at the pictures of the maps to see for yourself. This atlas(in this good condition) does not become available very often. It is a great addition to any lover of history or cartography. There is a low opening bid and no reserve! Includes 1955 Esso Map of North East United States(has writing on it) 1955 AAA Silver Springs Florida map, and 1956 Standard Oil map pf Florida. Also has 1 Rio Motel postcard and 11 Tradewinds Apartment Hotel postcards. Preowned, in good condition- all items show normal wear due to age such as very light tears on the fold crease ends and tanning. Maps have highlighted route marked and some writing. 1988 Street Map of Nashville by Champion Maps(r50) This map provides a great look at this city as it was 26 years ago. It is a great way to see and contrast the changes and growth that has occurred in this city since 1988. Please be aware that these Road Maps and brochures are anywhere from 10 to 90 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So some of the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders and fold lines of the maps may also have tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the way they have been stored in ... morethe past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time.
