Ortelius Rare IRELAND Copper Engraving 17.5"x21.5" Vtg Map from Atlas 1572
RARE Abraham Ortelius Map of Scotland from old Atlas. Map consist of two pages of the atlas and both pages together measures17 1/2" high x 21 1/2" wide. Hand colored copperplate engraving. This old map was professionally framed years ago and the glass front had been removed. The map has suffered some damage from storage but is mostly intact. We believe this to be 100% authentic. We can feel the indentation the copper plate left. Paper looks to be in fair condition except for the missing top right hand corner. There are also a few tears that can be seen in the photographs. Hazel Atlas Depression Cobalt Butter Dish. This dish was manufactured by the Hazel Atlas Glass Company. The base measures 6 3/4" long by 3 5/8" wide by 1 1/4" high. There is one small chip( 1/8" wide) and three small fleabites on the one handle. This is shown in photo# 4. There are also four very small. Tiny, miserable fleabites on the side edge of the base. This is shown in phots#3 and#5. Really, these are very small. The base has a sunburst on the bottom and says"BOTTOM" The cover measures 6" long by 3 5/8" wide by 2 1/4" high. It says"BUTTER COVER" on the top.There is one small chip on the outside bottom rim of the cover. There are two flakes on the top of the cover. I tried to show these in photo# 9. There are the normal straw marks.Dents and bubbles in accordance with glass manufacturing ... moreof the time. I pointed out all of the flaws that I could see. This is actually a really nice piece and is very hard to find. We have had this in our collection for over twenty years. We no longer are able to display these items and hate having them packed away. An index in the margin lists provinces and chief cities. The map shows the pre-WWI borders afterwhich a sliver of the eastern Ardenne was given to Belgium as war reparations. This area would later be a major focus of the Battle of the Bulge in WWII with the massacre at Malmedy. And the flattening of St. Vith, but that was still 50 years after the publication of this map.
