This is a old. I think made by Justrite, carbide miners“ Davy” lamp that was found in the Tiffany turquoise mine near Cerrillos. New Mexico in the early 1970s. Dinted but looks complete to me. I see no markings. I'd guess it dates to around 1910. Cerrillos was a important turquoise mining area in the early 1900s. In the 1880s, Cerrillos turquoise and other southwestern turquoise was promoted as the equivalent in quality to that of Persian turquoise. The acceptance of Cerrillos turquoise as a gemstone in 1889 raised its price to a level where its mining became profitable. The Tiffany Company of New York and its associates bought up much of the best quality turquoise from the Cerrillos mining area, some say as mush as $2,000,000 worth by 1910. Vintage Antique Tall Victorian Scalloped Edge Thimble Hallmarked MECHO MEXICO Here we have a vintage. Possibly antique tall victorian looking scalloped edged thimble hallmarked either HECHO or MECHO MEXICO. I can't make out if the first letter is an M or an H and the O at the end may also be something other than an O as it is much smaller than the rest of the letters and mostly rubbed off. I'm not sure if it is silver or another type of metal but I took a light polishing cloth to the inside, just enough to be able to read the hallmark but left the rest untouched with the original patina undisturbed. What rubbed off looked like silver tarnish but again, I have not tested it and I do not know for sure if it is silver. It is 1" tall from the bottom of the scalloped edge to the top of the dome and the opening is just under 3/4" ... moreacross. It is sligltly bent but could easily be repaired by an experienced collector. Other than being slightly out of round and needing a little cleaning it is in good vintage or antique condition. ANTIQUE STERLING SPOONS YOKOHAMA JAPAN MEXICO ? AZTEC SHELL PEARL LOT 2 SILVER
Pair Antique Sterling Spoons- Yokohama Souvenir Spoo n- Measures approximately 4 1/8" long. YOKOHAMA engraved with a zig zag lettering on bowl. Sterling and Japan on back of bowl. Stem almost looks like it had black enamel over it or it is just heavy tarnish. Top of stem has a scallop shell with a pearl in it. Do not know if pearl is real or faux. Spoon is in good condition except for tarnish. Mexico Aztec Sp oon( Measures about 3 3/8" long. Number 108 on inside of bowl and unmarked on stem but may have something under tarnish- not sure. Does look to be silver. Looks like characters on top of stem have wings and are wearing masks. This may not even be Mexican- just guessing. There is number 232 stamped inside the cover and on the bottom there are various stamps such as"Laton" 232" 762" hecho en Mexico" and in a triangle: IND.MEX. DE PLATA SA. Up for Auction is an Antique Southwestern New Mexico Chimayo Native American Indian Blanket. This beautiful blanket has wonderful detail. Finely woven by a expert weaver. It has a geometric 3 dimensional medallion design and border with flower motif on each side. Hand bound-rolled stitched on each side, a piece of fabric-bound for hanging was added. It dose have a center slit finish on both sides stitched up in middle of medallion-could be a women's serape-shawl-wearing blanket. It was similar to a Chimayo blanket I sold last year, gray background, dates from the 1930's or before. Over it is in good condition. Has a couple of pin size hole-minute larger holes-try to picture. Antique New Mexico Dug Up Spanish Colonial Stirrup 1750
I have a good friend who is a serious metal detecting enthusiast. He covers a lot of the remote areas of New Mexico looking for metal relics. Here is a very ornate Spanish Colonial. Dug up brass stirrup found in southern New Mexico in an area known to the Spaniards as the Jornada del Muerto. The s tirrup dates to the mid 1700s. The roughest and deadliest part of the Camino Real. From Mexico City to Santa Fe, was the stretch between Las Cruces and Socorro called Jornada del Muerto or Journey of the Dead. A broad, flat valley with no water, grazing or firewood for 90 miles. Caravans left the comparative ease of the Rio Grande River at Points of Rocks, north of Las Cruces, and prepared for a brutal, three day march with little rest and no water. Travelers leave the river and journey into the arid wasteland because the river was too difficult ... moreto follow, especially for livestock and carts. Huge canyons led from eastern and western mountains, creating gigantic ridges to climb and descend, one after another. I will be listing several more groups of relics found by the same fellow. They are all guaranteed to be 102 years old. Cartographer A.K. Johnston Size/ Format Map: 26 cm x 19.5 cm(10.25" x 7.75" Page: 30 c. X 25 cm(12" X 9.75" Condition Very good. The maps are bright and crisp. There is only very slight age-toning to the extreme margins. The maps are clean and free of foxing. Tears, or other compromises. Remarks This 1906 atlas.
