Antique Owl Brooch - Sterling Silver Fine 1910 Mexico Vintage Estate Fine Patina
| | | Search Store Antique Owl Pendant Sterling Silver. Circa 1910 This fine antique pendant features an owl design. The owl is in an upright position with the span of it's wings on either side. The left wing has a small crack where it had previously been soldered during the crafting process and a very small dent towards the edge of the wing. The wings feature beautiful feather like designs and on either side of the owls talons are two orb-like balls. The back of this piece features a smooth finish and has a hinged pin and spin clasp that are in good working order. The back also features a Silver stamped for metal purity and a Mexico mark for country of origin. The surface of this piece is in good antique condition with slight patina that add to it's beautiful appearance. This brooch weighs 8.5 grams. They are carved with wood. Have the carved facial features of the Tarahumara dolls and are wearing the traditional fabric clothing of their dolls. These specific dolls have jointed arms and legs you can move and pose.The doll with the headband is 8 3/4" tall. The other one is 8 1/4" tall. Here is a late 19 th Century ANTIQUE WOOD MASK from Mexico. Possibly used at Carnival time. It is an authentic indigenous Native American hand carved wooden dance mask. It looks like a witch’s face but I'm no expert. In very good condition. The paint is intact except around the white’s of the eyes and red on the mouth. There are 3 holes for stringing. There is some cracking from age but the mask is solid. It hung on the wall in a humble house in Chiapas, Mexico for many decades, given to the family by the Grandfather, who had it most of his life. It was given to the man I bought it from in the 1980’s when he was working down in Chiapas. The family befriended this man and they gave him this mask as a going-away present. However I can not confirm this info. What I can tell you is this thing is OLD, COOL and BIG. It is roughly 16 inches tall 13 across and 9 inches wide. IT IS SIGNED BY THE ARTIST ON THE BOTTOM but I have been unable to verify the exact artist. Made with very thick tan cinnamon clay. I would say it weighs almost 20 lbs. It has been hand painted on both sides. A moon scene on one side and a couple birds on the other. The whole thing is decorated very well from top to bottom. Very nice. Very old clay woman carrying a basket of items on her head. She is 2" high. On her base it is carved MEXICO. I did recieve this from the original owner. She got it many years ago in Mexico. There is some wear from over the years. There is some clay missing from her arm. There is a chip on the base. She does stand on her own. There is a thread loop tied to the base of her basket. This may have been an ornament at one time. The detail to this piece is wonderful. Her face has a lot of detail. Antique Molcajete Antique Mortar from Southern Mexico
Up for auction is an ancient Aztec type Molcajete which is very old. This beautiful. Primitive hand made molcajete was made by Mexican Indians around Mexico City a very long time ago. No machines were used to make this and is not the perfectly machined pieces one sees now days for sale. This piece is unique and different, though typical in design. Made of Basalt which is the preferred stone to use for its weight, strength and endurance. Typical tripod design made from traditional pick hammers as one can see upon close inspection. This is a heavy one and weighs a whopping 8 pounds 4 ounces. Measures approx. 8 3/4 inches across and stands 4 1/2 inches tall on one side and 5 inches tall on the other side. The top part of the box with glass lifts off to reveal the retablo. This piece was in my parents collection and was purchased in New Mexico from a Santa Fe dealer. As the new country was beginning to expand fully to the Pacific following the land gains after the Mexican War. The gold region in California is remarkably inaccurate with Auburn shown well north of Sacramento City and lying between it and the Marysville& Yuba City area. The Great Basin area is also inaccurate and roughly follows the Fremont model. Filled with wagon routes. Explorer's trails, forts, Indian tribes, and so much more. The middle portion of the U.S. is unorganized with only Indian nations named and colored. Much of this area is organized into the Proposed Territory of Nebraska. Minnesota includes Dakota. Which is not named. Out west, only California and the territories of Oregon. New Mexico ... moreand Utah exist. One of a kind. Very good condition woman's writing desk from Mexico, circa 1900. This one of a kind piece has no screws or glue, and fits like a puzzle! This desk was brought to the United States circa 1970 from Durango, Mexico by my Grandmother. She in turn received it from her piano teacher years before! An important and fine map of Western American interest. Includes the large region of the southern U.S. Much of which is labelled" Louisiana" and which would soon become the Republic of Texas. Covers from New Orleans across to modern day California, northward to Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Oklahoma& Colorado. The mountainous regions around New Mexico are taken directly from Alexander Humboldt's important 1811 map" Carte General du Royaume de la Nouvelle Espagne" Which is among the earliest to delineate ... morethe Spanish southwest and Rocky Mountain region with any sense of modern accuracy. Interestingly, this map which is printed just 3 years later adds and amends many topographical details of Humboldts map east of the Rockies, including new mountainous elevations and rivers while also adding new tributaries to the Colorado river, etc. Evidence of Pikes important 1806-07 explorations in what is today Colorado is seen for instance in the unnamed mountain(Pikes Peak in Colorado) Which is here simply labelled"Highest Peak" The Great Salt Lake and the close-by Utah Lake are both mapped with incomplete borders and a fictitious river between them. Up for auction is a very large Mexican Pitcher from an estate sale. It is made of clay and looks quite primitive. Measures about 14" tall and 8" wide. For reference. I included a photo next to the Largest size(22 oz) Yankee candle jar and a tealight. It is in excellent condition. However it does a have a couple small chips that I have photographed. The paint is very good. No major chips or missing paint(please keep in mind it is VERY old- it does not look new) Handle has a flattened style with a stripe running down it. Antique Pueblo Northern New Mexico Red Pottery Bowl
This lot is an Older Northern Pueblo Pottery Bowl from Northern New Mexico. Thanks to another ebay- is a stew pot from San Juan Pueblo which now like to be know as Kewa. It is most likely several hundred years- maybe 4- 5 hundred or so. It is about 10" diameter and 4 1/2" tall. You can see on the side where it was originally coiled and then smoothed. It has been glued back together. Rim is red the rest is natural clay color with black clouds from firing. The items I am listing now came from the estate of a man who lived in Espanola for years. Important landmark, hand coloured original antique map of North America The Colonial United States and the Gulf of Mexico was published by Guillaume Delisle in 1703, dated in cartouche and re-issued in 1708. The importance of this first edition third ... morestate landmark map by Guillaume Delisle cannot be overstated. It was the first map to accurately depict the course and mouth of the Mississippi River. Much of the map was drawn from reports brought back to France from the survivor's of the La Salle expedition into the interior of North America and from information derived from the explorations of Bienville and d'Iberville. In the year preceding the publication of the map. Delisle utilised his position with the King of France to gain access to the best available information from the new world.
