Authentic Antique Texas color map 20x26" Genuine rare 133 years old vintage
This is an original 1881 fold out color map of Texas that measures a good size 20" x 26" and is in excellent condition. Features very fine detail. The paper is high quality and there is no foxing. Mildew, or other issues except for some creases along the left border that could be easily pressed out and a 1.5" tear at the middle seam. The paper is in such good condition because it has been inside the Atlas its whole 133 year life. Superb historical piece that will look outstanding in your home, office or business. Antique 1864 Map: TEXAS, Civil War Era
This map is from Johnson's New Family Atlas. Published by Johnson& Ward in 1864. This antique authentic map shows Johnson's TEXAS by Johnson& Ward The map was printed on newsprint paper which has yellowed and has some areas of discoloration and age staining. Which can be viewed in the photographs. There are also small tears at some edges. It measures just over 18 inches by about 26 inches. However. It's a wonderful old piece, and would be great framed, for a collector of antique maps. I am selling all of the maps from the Atlas. In separate auctions. For sale is an Antique SDUK Hand Colored Americas Map. Independent Republic of Texas, daring to the 1840's. The map is very detailed and shows the continents of North& South America as they were during the 1840's. The map also features the interesting depiction of the State of Texas as an Independent Republic, and California being a part of Mexico. Towns and borders are shown in detail throughout the map. The The map is a strongly defined steel engraving with hand colored outlines. It is printed on medium thick paper, featuring a plate mark. The engraver was J& C Walker and was published by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge(SDUK. The paper size is approximately 16 inches by 13-1/2 inches with at least a 1-1/2 inch margin on all four edges. Condition is very good, the map is uniformly age toned with no foxing, ... moretears or holes. Light finger smudge marks occur mainly in the margins, also the map has been rolled for so long that it needs to be flattened out.

Approximately 50 counties are shown and separately hand colored. Although the western 2/3rds of Texas is dominated by Bexar, Milam, Robertson and San Patricio Counties. Fort Alamo is shown, along with a few dozen other place names. About 15 early roads are shown. Large inset shows Texas North of the Red River. There are several recently added counties which were not present when HS Tanner sold the rights to the plate to Mitchell in 1846. Extremely large and flowing Bexar, Milam and Robertson counties shown. Dallas does not yet exist as a city. There are basically no official towns or settlements shown west of Austin. This is an original antique U. S. state map of Texas. It is copyright 1891 by Dodd. Mead& Co. but is from an 1892 encyclopedia-guaranteed authentic. Struthers and Co. of New York were the engravers. It is a very detailed map with counties, county towns or seats, cities, railroads, and cartography. This is a double page map with original center fold as issued. The overall size is 11 7/8" x 9 7/8" and the image with protrusion is 10 1/2" x 9 1/8" It is in very good plus condition. The margins have darker toning age toning along the edge. The reverse side of one of the pages shows county populations from an 1890 census. Please enlarge the pictures for the best description. These maps represent more than history, they represent the unparalleled art and craftsmanship of days gone by. Williamson County. In Central Texas, is on the Balcones Escarpment just north of Austin. Georgetown, the county's largest town, serves as the county seat and is twenty-five miles north of Austin. The county's center is at 30 40 north latitude, 97 35 west longitude. U.S. Highway 183, Interstate Highway 35, and State Highway 95 are the major north-south roads, and U.S. Highway 79 and State Highway 29 cross the county east ... moreand west. Williamson County is also crossed by four railroads, the Southern Pacific, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas, the Missouri Pacific, and the Georgetown. The county occupies 1,137 square miles and is divided into two regions by the Balcones Escarpment, which runs through the center from north to south along a line from Jarrell to Georgetown to Round Rock. The western half of the county is an extension of the Western Plains and is undulating hilly brushland with an average elevation of 850 feet, while the eastern region is part of the Coastal Plains and is flat to gently rolling with an average elevation of 600 feet. Williamson County is drained in the center and south by the San Gabriel River, which is the only river in the county, and in the north by creeks that run into the Lampasas and Little rivers north of the county line. Soils in the eastern part of the county are mostly dark loamy to clayey"blackland" soils, while those west of the Balcones fault are light to dark and loamy with limey subsoils.
