While I always liked ancient coins I never really got very serious about them. Nor did I accumulate much knowledge on them. However I did once have the ... moreopportunity to purchase a large group of ancient coins accumulated by a collector and part time dealer, who decided to just sell everything he had. So I have been listing them here on ebay, with any information he had noted on each one. But please judge for yourself, both by the description below and the photos, as to whether his attribution and any noted condition is indeed correct. I will combine shipping if you just let me know that you will be bidding on additional coin listings. PLEASE NOTE: I have had a couple of inquiries regarding more background on these Roman coins. And where they might have been originally found. The collector/dealer from whom I purchased the entire group was originally a dealer for them in England, before he relocated to the USA. In fact the vast majority of them are in folded holders that are priced in English Pounds Sterling, ranging from a low of 8 BPS(about $13 USD) to a high of 25 BPS(about $40) Some have had the BPS price crossed out and the USD price overwritten instead. As the internet indicates that the Roman conquest of England began in 43 A.D. under Claudius, and that this Roman occupation of England ended in 410 A.D. I believe that the vast majority of these coins were originally located in England, as the range of dates of the examples I purchased match up closely to this English occupation period by Romans. I expect that due to this history there exists many collectors of Roman coins within Enland. And why this person had originally dealt in them. The coins themselves range from examples that were obviously originally located in the ground(metal detecting finds) to those that appear to have seen very little use(storage hoard finds) The price in BPS noted on each example doesn't seem to always coincide with the coin's physical condition, so the original pricing is expectedly more due to the scarcity, desireability,

Marcus Aurelius: Meditations(Unabridged) Edited by William Kaufman. DESCRIPTION: Softcover: 99 pages. Publisher: Dover Publications. Inc; 1997) ISBN: ... more048629823X. One of the world’s most famous and influential books. Meditations” by the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius(121-180 A.D. incorporates the stoic percepts he used to cope with his life as a warrior and administrator of an empire. Ascending to the imperial throne in 161 AD, Aurelius found his reign beset by natural disasters and war. In the wake of these challenges, he set down a series of private reflections, outlining a philosophy of commitment to virtue above pleasure and tranquility above happiness. Reflecting the emperor’s own noble and self-sacrificing code of conduct. This eloquent and moving work draws and enriches the tradition of Stoicism, which stressed the search for inner peace and ethical certainty in an apparently chaotic world. Serenity was to be achieved by emulating in one’s personal conduct the underlying orderliness and lawfulness of nature. And in the face of the inevitable pain, loss, and death; the suffering at the core of life, Aurelius counsels stoic detachment from the things that are beyond one’s control, and a focus on one’s own will and perception. Presented here in a specially modernized version of this classic George Long translation. This updated and revised edition is easily accessible to contemporary readers. It not only provides a fascinating glimpse into the mind and personality of a highly principled Roman of the second century, but also offers today’s readers a practical and inspirational guide to the challenges of everyday life. CONDITION: New. Never read. PLEASE SEE IMAGES BELOW FOR SAMPLE PAGES FROM INSIDE OF BOOK. PLEASE SEE PUBLISHER. PROFESSIONAL, AND READER REVIEWS BELOW. PUBLISHER REVIEW: REVIEW: Marcus Aurelius reigned from 161 AD to 180 AD. And was perhaps the only true philosopher-king in the history of the world. Significance of oil lamps in major religions of the Holy Land: Judaism Lamps appear in the Torah and other Jewish sources as a symbol of“lighting” the way for the righteous. The wise, and for love and other positive values. While fire was often described as being destructive, light was given a positive spiritual meaning. The oil lamp and its light were important household items, and this may explain their symbolism. Oil lamps were used for many spiritual rituals. The oil lamp and its light also became important ritualistic articles with the further development of Jewish culture and its religion. The seven lamps shall give light in front of the lamp stand(menorah) Numbers 8: 1-4“There I shall cause pride to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. Inside Diameter: 47 1/2* 42 1/2 millimeters. 3mm Diameter Round Bronze Stock. Weight: 6.51 grams. Plaque Size: 170* 120 millimeters(7* 5 USA inches) ARTIFACT CONDITION: Good. Intact of sound integrity. But repaired(was broken in half) Moderately light porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: A well preserved. Though very simple Roman bronze bracelet circa 1st century A.D. Clearly worn by a child of Ancient Rome(children being considerably smaller than contemporary populations) it would surely ... morefit no-one except for an infant today. The bracelet was recovered in two pieces, which were mended together. Inasmuch as it was fractured once, it would be too susceptible to fracturing again to wear it as a bracelet or even as a pendant on a chain. As is ordinarily the case, the artifact does exhibit some moderately light porosity(surface pitting caused by burial in earth. Although this specimen possesses obvious and unmistakable signs of burial, the piece is not heavily corroded or disfigured. More often than not small ancient metal artifacts such as this are extensively disfigured and suffer substantial degradation as a consequence of the ordeal of being buried for millennia. It is not at all unusual to find metal artifacts decomposed to the point where they are not much more substantial than discolored patterns in the soil. Actually most smaller ancient artifacts such as this are so badly oxidized that oftentimes all that is left is a green(bronze) or red(iron) stain in the soil. Or an artifact which crumbles in your hand. However this specimen is not so heavily afflicted, and certainly has not been disfigured. Relative to the usual condition such a

Though very simple Roman bronze bracelet circa 1st century A.D. Simple as it is, it does sport the fairly uncommon feature of ... morehaving overlapping ends. It would fit a woman of medium build or a man of slender build, and with that caveat, is completely and eminently wearable. The bracelet was recovered unbroken and intact. As is ordinarily the case, the artifact exhibits moderately porosity(surface pitting caused by burial in earth) Unlike so many smaller bronze artifacts which are completely disfigured by corrosion, this particular piece happened to come to rest in fairly gentle soil conditions. The consequence is that though you can see upon close scrutiny clear evidence that this bracelet spent millennia buried beneath the ground, nonetheless to casual examination it is quite pleasant, with the rich, warm glow of ancient bronze. To casual scrutiny it seems simply a primitive bracelet. These slight blemishes are not immediately discernible. Of course in these photo enlargements these blemishes are quite distinct. But in hand, to the casual observer, it simply appears a nicely toned bronze bracelet. Though simple it is sturdy and well constructed, and entirely intact. Despite the obvious signs of burial, the piece is not heavily corroded or disfigured as are commonly most smaller ancient

Antique 19thC 6½ct Sapphire Ancient Greek Roman Sorcery
One Gorgeously Colored Handcrafted Antique Genuine Natural Faceted Six and One-Half Carat Neon Red-Orange-Pink Sapphire Oval Cut Precious Gemstone from Russia. ORIGIN: 19th Century Russia. Not only did sapphire help to get in touch with astral and psychic realms. But the stone also provided protection for those who took those journeys. In the world of the ancient Mediterranean(including the Greeks, Romans, Persians, Hebrews, and the various Indo-European Celtic tribes) priests and sorcerers honored the sapphire above all other gems, ... morebelieving that sapphire enabled them to interpret oracles and foretell the future. Sapphires have been since ancient times one of the most highly valued of all gemstones, and references to the gemstone date back to about 800 B.C. Here's a gorgeous, vibrantly colored natural red-rose-orange-pink sapphire precious gemstone from the Southern Ural Mountains of Siberia, Russia. The gemstone was hand crafted and faceted by a 19th century Russian artisan, part of an heritage renown for the production of the elaborate gemstones and jewelry of the Czars of Medieval, Renaissance, and Victorian Russia. The color is absolutely magnificent– a bright, intense, almost neon red, with pink and orange/peach undertones. The color is popularly known as“padparadsha” red, and both the intense hue and the fiery sparkle are remarkable. The color is quite exquisite, with exceptional intensity. Hold the gemstone between thumb and finger and roll it, and the rolling, fiery red sparkle is really eye-catching. This sparkling precious gemstone is transparent. Near eye clean to the view of the casual admirer, or“lightly blemished” to scrutiny, with a highly desirable bright red-rose-pink color wit

Paleolithic items of adornment have been unearthed that date back 75.000-100,000 years. It is theorized that jewelry originated as a purely functional item used to fasten animal hides together allowing them to be worn as clothing. Findings suggest ... morethat jewelry making became more prevalent over 40.000 years ago as mankind migrated from Africa and the Middle East into continental Europe. Early necklaces and bracelets were made from readily available materials such as bone, teeth, shells and stone strung together using twine from animal sinew or catgut. The forging of copper some 7.000 years ago allowed metal to be utilized as a material to craft jewelry. The smelting of copper and tin to make the alloy bronze heralded the advent of the Bronze Age some 5.000-6,000 years ago. It is conceivable that metal workers used their knowledge of metallurgy to craft items of adornment as well as tools and weapons. Jewelry has served(and continues to serve) three basic roles. As an ornament it attracts attention and could be used as a testament to hunting prowess or more general attributes. As an amulet holding supernatural power it protected the wearer against physical harm. Warded off evil and healed ailments. As society evolved it also became a symbol of wealth or social standing. Rings were extremely popular among the Romans. Their faith in the curative and protective powers attributed to some stones(as well as shapes and images) pr
