Measurements: Length: 10 cm- Width: 6 cm- Height: 3 cm This large'slipper-type' oil lamp is detailed with raised linear and pellet patterns. With small rectangular handle. Very fine condition. Complete with no repairs. Slipper lamps are oval shaped and found mainly in the Levant. They were produced between the 3rd to 9th centuries CE. Decorations include vine scrolls. Palm wreaths, and Greek letters. The upper and lower parts were molded separately and then joined together by hand. Archaeologists divide slipper-lamps into two groups: small and large. The former averages 8 cm in length and 5 cm in width. The latter usually has a standard length of about 9.5 cm and a width of 6.3 cm.

An orange-ware terracotta oil lamp from the Islamic period in the Holy Land. Ca. 700 AD. Most likely a wheel formed piece, has a sharp raised edge around the fill hole to prevent leakage on the top surgace when filling. The wick hole shows evidence of ancient use, a small projection opposite functions as the handle.
