My best estimate of its age falls within the Byzantine and Victorian periods. Its scroll work is made plainly visible by conveniently located remains of original gilding. Its setting also shows a remnant of black stone. Suggesting its forcible removal and strong likelihood of it being Black Onyx, given its popularity and frequent use during those centuries of the past. It could be worn without a gemstone.
