Although this specimen possesses obvious and unmistakable signs of burial, the piece is not heavily corroded or disfigured. More often than not small ancient metal artifacts such as this are extensively disfigured and suffer substantial degradation as a consequence of the ordeal of being buried for millennia. It is not at all unusual to find metal artifacts decomposed to the point where they are not much more substantial than discolored patterns in the soil. Actually most smaller ancient artifacts such as this are so badly oxidized that oftentimes all that is left is a green(bronze) or red(iron) stain in the soil. The consequence is that though you can see upon close scrutiny clear evidence that this bracelet spent millennia buried beneath the ground, nonetheless to casual examination it is quite pleasant, with the rich, warm glow of ancient bronze. To casual scrutiny it seems simply a primitive bracelet. These slight blemishes are not immediately discernible. Of course in these photo enlargements these blemishes are quite distinct. But in hand, to the casual observer, it simply appears a nicely toned bronze bracelet. Though simple it is sturdy and well constructed, and entirely intact. Early 3rd-5th century AD Judaea-Palestine Terracotta oil lamp from the Holy Land. Measurements: Length: 10 cm- Width: 6 cm- Height: 3 cm This large'slipper-type' oil lamp is detailed with raised linear and pellet patterns. With small rectangular handle. Very fine condition. Complete with no repairs. Slipper lamps are oval shaped and found mainly in the Levant. They were produced between the 3rd to 9th centuries CE. Decorations include vine scrolls. Palm wreaths, and Greek letters. The upper and lower parts were molded separately and then joined together by hand. Archaeologists divide slipper-lamps into two groups: small and large. The former averages 8 cm in length and 5 cm in width. The latter usually has a standard length of about 9.5 cm and a width of 6.3 cm.

An attractive ancient Late Roman oil lamp. Dating to the 3rd- 5th Century A.D. originating from the Holy land. The lamp decorated with a delicate band of impressed geometric designs. The base with cross inside concentric circles and covered with a red slip. Lamps such as this were filled with olive oil in ancient times and lit by means of a thick wick. Which protruded from the nozzle end. The flickering light of the oil lamp has been man's only means of illuminating the darkness for millennia, long before gas-lamps and modern electricity.
