Russian Eastern Greek Orthodox Byzantine Wood ? Tryptich Egg Shaped Icon
This listing is for 1 egg shaped religious icon or tryptich. I believe the item is made of wood. But am not positive. It is heavily lacquered. The icon measures about 7-1/4" tall and 5" wide when closed. The piece measures about 10-1/2" wide when fully opened. The item is in very good to excellent pre-owned condition. There are a few minor surface scuffs. The decoration is bright and intact. There are no chips, cracks or breaks. The hinges are a little loose, but they could be tightened. There is no manufacturer's mark. The item is beautifully decorated. I do not know if the religious scenes are painted or applied decals. I wish I knew more about the item, but since it was purchased at an Estate Sale I am at a loss. The icon is substantial and weighs over 1-1/2 pounds. For sale this beautiful estate fresh icon depicting Mary with Jesus. Oil on wood panel with pierced and embossed two-part metal overlay. The coronas are fixed to the back portion of the overlay with wax( Overall size is 10.5 x 8.5 inches. The depth is about 1.625 inches(including what appears to be a later addition of wood backing.There is old writing on the fabric of the backing which is somewhat illegible due to water staining(perhaps a date of 1755? I don't know very much about these so please feel free to ask questions and request additional photos.

Vintage Polish OUR LADY of Czestochowa Inlaid Wood Icon from POLAND
Offering for your consideration a hand made inlaid wooden icon representing the miraculous image of Our Lady of Czestochowa. This vintage icon was purchased years ago at the shrine of Our Blessed Mother in Poland. It carries the old paper label on the back. Which is yellowing from age. The image of Our Lady holding the Christ Child with two angels beside them is hand made out of various types of wood that have different shades of color. The icon is set in a gold painted wooden frame behind glass. It measures 7 1/8" by 5 1/8" and has a metal attachment at the top from which it can be hung. It is in perfect condition. Russian Icon Egg Artist Signed Pyrography Carved Silver Foil Madonna & Child
This wonderful piece is 7 1/4 inches high in total. The pedestal is separate and there is some gummy material that sort of holds it in place(this is some sort of material made for this purpose and does not damage the wood) The egg i s very finely decorated. There are tiny hand done designs in different areas of the egg. The fine quality could not be shown in the pics. There is a name on the lower right front area which I believe is that of the artist. You will love this! I've decided to take an opportunity today to add something to my listings. Just a little word of encouragement for you to consider something.
