You are viewing an antique Russian Orthodox icon with a silverplated over metal oklad covering a beautifully hand painted Virgin Mary and Christ Child. The icon measures 9 1/2 inches by 12 inches and 1 inch thick and is in great condition with no cracks. Chips or loss of paint.The panel is has considerable weight to it and the oklad is well detailed with floral scrolls, and very ornate in raised relief. There are another pair of hands symbolizing the Holy Spirit(photo#5)The two halos are cloisonne enamel on brass and are intact with no losses, an inscription in Russian to the right of the Virgin,two white enamel buttons on each side(photos# 6& 7) and clear and red jewel rhinestones soldered on throughout.
