Antique Russian Icon~Painting of Jesus Christ with Brass Riza
This is an auction for a beautiful Russian icon. It has a painting of Jesus Christ surrounded by an ornate brass riza. There are four openings on the riza. One is for the head of Jesus on the painting. There are three smaller openings. One is over the right arm and hand, one of the left and one of the thumb of the left. There is crackle on the painting. I think it makes it look all the more attractive. The painting is on wood and the wood on the back is covered by a piece of old and worn pink fabric. There is a tear in the fabric and the wood can be seen there(picture#4) It measures 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" by 3/4" thick. There is a small bump on the right side of the frame and I have pictured it(picture#7) There is a small bit of damage on the halo which can be seen when you scan over the icon. Other than that I can find no damage ... moreexcept that it is dirty. It was polished a little on the left side which can be seen in the pictures. I bought it that way in an antiques shop in Tartu, Estonia several years ago. Tartu is a little over 100 miles from Russia. My son and daughter-in-law have an apartment there. It has in it's view the river that goes to Russia. The name of the river is"The Mother River" That is a direct translation of the Estonian name for the river. I have not taken the icon apart. I am afraid that I will not get it back together. I have been an admirer of Russian icons and there is no reason for me to think it is not authentic. Please e-mail with any questions

Antique Religious Military Jesus Pocket Shrine Icon Brass Case Soldier WW1 Era
Up for auction is a very old vintage. Antique, religious Sacred Heart of Jesus miniature pocket shine in a brass case. It is very rare. The small brass case slides open to reveal the fully detailed Sacred Heart of Jesus icon that appears to be made out of a cast metal- most likely, lead. It is a very dark silver metal. The icon measures just a little over 1" in height when the case is closed. These miniature pocket shrines are often associated with Catholic soldiers who carried them for protection during war times. These pocket shrines are incredibly difficult to find and are truly a rare treasure. I have seen these before with St. Joseph, St. Anthony, and Mary but never one with a statue of Jesus. PLEASE NOTE that the statue of Jesus is damaged on the base. I really didn't even notice this until I looked at it today. Each leaf is rectangle divided into quadrants. An upper side is in an ogee-arch shape. The iconostasis contains Twelve Great Feasts and other Important Church Events. Antique 19th c. Hand Painted Russian Icon Iverskaya Brass Enamel Riza Virgin Art
Up for bid we have an absolutely beautiful antique hand painted Russian Iverskaya icon with a handmade brass oklad and colorful enamel halo decoration. This is a 19th century piece featuring the Iverskaya virgin holding a young Christ in her arms. The scene is hand painted on wood. Covered by the oklad, and backed with an orange felt/velvet type of fabric. The text on the oklad directly beneath the image reads"Iverskaya" in the old Cyrillic. As you may expect with a piece this old, there are a few condition issues, all of which are visible in the photos, none of which are major.
