Here for your consideration is a Fine Antique Russian 84 Silver Enamel Orthodox Travel Icon Virgin Mary in Excellent preserved condition. The size of the icon is 9.7 cm. high(without the loop hanger) 9.0 cm. wide, and 1.3 cm. thick. It has an overall weight of 162.0 grams. Front of the icon is decorated with enamel hand painting of the Virgin Mary and red stones. Back side of the icon is decorated with orthodox cross and russian inscription. Very nice and rare item in excellent condition. The enamel painting is appr. 41 X 49 mm. Comes from the Russian whiteguard family emigrated here in 1921. GEORGE- SLAYING A DRAGON shows a beautiful CYRILLIC inscription surrounding St GEORGE'S head. This is a stunning and rare work of art! It is like the antique rosenkranzes I have from Germany. The metal is all filigree. Very fine, very small. It is signed Detler, which is a German surname. I believe the filigree is bronze(the support metal) and silver(the fine intricate details) and the center is bronze. It shows a mother holding her child over the church holy font to be baptized. The priest is baptizing the child, while one altar boy kneels with a holy candle, and another holds the Bible. A woman is standing behind the mother holding a cloth in which to take the child in. It is just incredibly beautiful and rare. I have not seen one this large in all my years in Catholic antiques. The entire icon is a diameter of 4 3/8" and the inside is 2" in diameter. This is an extremely high quality antiques 19th century handmade sterling silver. Guilloche enamel,and wood religious Catholic Icon. It is a very rare one of a kind icon and made with an abundance of intricate stylized detailing. The base of the wall hanging is made from thick wood with a deep red velour backing. it has 4 proliferated square corners.
