It embraces both a sewing or work box with original red velvet and silk trimming. Plus a writing slope within the bottom section that springs out at a touch of a button. The sewing section has numerous compartments for storage and an under tray section giving plenty of additional space. The tool tray has a selection of bone(mostly 18thC Georgian) artifacts including several ... morecrochet hooks. Awls and a bone needle. Additionally it includes a bobbin and a couple of bobkin or needle cases with screw off tops. This little collection of tools and 18thC sewing bits are worth a reasonable sum if sold separately. The lower tray. Released by a brass button within the back edge of the piece, contains a complete writing slope with a rocking pen tray, silver plated inkwell(totally original and in great condition) and a stamp slope. The leather covering is also original and has cracked across the fold(absolutely quite normal, given it's age, and is best left) A little brass pull catch to the front of the drawer adds to the overall"look" to this box. The external condition of this box is exceptional. All four sides are finished in highly figured walnut with additional inlay to the front to include abalone shell. Brass, ivorine and pewter stringing. The top has a sensational multi-inlaid finish. It uses rosewood, burr maple and burr yew wood and is complimented with pewter stringing, white metal, abalone shell and ivorine inlays. Unusual very old German hand painted wooden box
Here is a very unusual and old antique? hand painted box. The style of decoration implies age! It has lots of flowers on the edges with Munchen(Munich) written on the front. I'm not sure what the person represents, possibly a chorister or another religious figure. It measures 14 cm long, 10 cm wide and 6 cm high and is certainly an interesting item! Antique Primitive Painted Round Wood Pantry Box
This is an antique original painted pantry box. It looks to have mustard paint over green. It has square nails around rim and base. It measures 6 1/2" in dia. and is 2 5/8" tall and has some weight to it. I had just oiled it with some of my other pantry boxes that's why the bottom and inside look so bright. My house is very dry in the winter so I like to keep my primitives oiled for their protection. It is in very nice condition. There is one line crack 1/4" down from the rim running vertical so it isn't seen under the lid. It isn't really noticeable with the lid off but felt I should mention it. A very nice primitive for any primitive collection. Please see my other items as I have just acquired some nice primitives such as 2 early pastry boards. This auction is for a delightful Mid-Victorian Rosewood Correspondence/Letter box. These boxes are becoming more and more collectable and along with making a great display they can still be used. This super example measures 9 inches long x 4" tall x 4.5 inches wide. It has two brass cartouches reading'answered and unanswered along with a central blank brass cartouche for a name. Overall the box is very nice indeed and the photos do not do the wood's deep colour justice. As to be expected with an item of this age and purpose it does have some signs of use but nothing major or noticeable with the worse being a hairline crack on one corner(see photo) It has retained its lock escutcheon but the key and mechanism are no longer in place. UNUSUAL ANTIQUE BLACK WOODEN BROOCH - HAND & FLOWER GOTHIC VICTORIAN MOURNING?
Here is an unusual antique brooch that I think is carved from black wood- possibly ebony? The detail is stunning- it shows a hand. Complete with frilled cuff at the wrist, reaching to grasp a flower. It has a rather eerie gothic feel to it I think. Looks very Victorian to me- could it possibly be a mourning brooch- it certainly looks rather funereal. Measures 2 inches long approx. One small piece of damage- the very tip of the central leaf is missing, also the pin at the back would need some attention as it is rather loose, I am not sure if it is the original pin or perhaps has been mended/ replaced some time in the past. A really rather ridiculous article. This is a turned white-wood container in the shape of a cotton reel. But larger. Both top and base have a maximum diameter of 62 mm. And the box from flat base to top of domed lid is 54 mm. Inside there sits a cotton reel of roughly the same shape which may or may not be original. The lid is a push fit, and there is no aperture for a thread to emerge. A neat piece of turnery in decent condition. Presumably with a use in mind. But what? The only other clue is the legend stamped on the base'2187 Made in Germany' I have seen similar labels on foreign-made'Mauchline Ware' Which might suggest a date around 1900. Odd

Old Japanese Puzzle Money Box. Inlaid as a Chest. Unusual
Lovely old Japanese puzzle box which is prettily inlaid to look like a chest or case with straps and buckles. On the top is a delicate inlaid picture of Mt Fuji. The box is unusual in being a money box. On each side are little handles on pieces of wood. On one side the handle pulls the piece of wood down to reveal the money box slot. On the other side the little handle pulls out the piece of wood. Which allows the top lid to slid across to open the box. The box is in very good condition for its age and has a good antique colour. There is an inconspicuous repair to one corner and a little hairline on the other. There are a few little surface indentations and a little bit of shrinkage but this is all part of its nice antique patina. A delightful Jewellery box. A typically Regency shape dating to the early nineteenth century, around 1820. Made from Burr Maple, the box is mounted with delightful decorative brass mounts. The corners on the lid have over-flowing Cornucopias, the handles are backed with baskets of flowers and the feet in the form of Lion's paws. The lid opens to reveal an interior that has been re-lined creating a fresh and clean finish, perfect for many years of use. The brass pin which holds the bottom drawer in place, can be removed releasing the drawer to be opened. When the pin is in place and the box locked(complete with working key) the drawer cannot be opened. Excellent condition, measuring 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" foot to foot x 4 1/2" tall. This is an old workbox. Veneered in mahogany, with inlaid mosaic bands on the top and front. There is a mosaic cartouche in the centre of the lid, but instead of a matching escutcheon there is a small tinplate replacement. It has a hinged lid. And a lock, but no key. The inside should have an inner tray, and a padded liner inside the lid, but both are missing. ... moreIt is in very poor condition. It is very worn, the lid is cracked, and the veneer is chipped on the edges. There is a piece of wood nailed inside the front edge of the lid, and one hinge has been badly aligned, so that the lid doesn't sit flat. Description ANTIQUE MAUCHLINE FERNWARE BOX circa 1880 For Restoration This ANTIQUE MAUCHLINE FERNWARE BOX dates from circa 1880. It stands approximately 2.25 inches(5.75 cm) high and measures approximately 10.25 inches(26 cm) square. The BOX needs some restoration to bring it back to its former glory. There are some wormholes in the base and one corner of the box has a crack up the side at the back(please see photographs) There is some wear and scratching to the surface on the lid. The fern picture on the inside of the lid is in good conditon. Offered without reserve. If you have any questions please ask. The original hinges have been replaced.

This wooden box is from the 1980s and the lid does show surface wear and scratches. The top of the crate has a heavy water stain on the bottom right corner. The case comes with a lid that attaches with two magnets. The box measures approximately 18x14x14 and has a center divide in it. The outside edge of the box has a metal band which has been riveted in place. The box will hold about 60 vinyl LP records with covers. Please review actual picture of item for condition. The lid is inlaid with large pieces of beautiful shades of blue and green malachite and sodalite. A butterfly design made of sterling silver. Copper and brass grace the lid of this lovely box. The box is signed on the back. It could use a good cleaning and will polish to a bright finish inside and on the lid but I always leave that to the new owner as some people prefer the original patina. This is a vintage nail box found in an abandoned house. Measures 10 3/4"x9"x4 5/8" The print is very hard to see but I can recognize it states"Capwell Horse Nail Co. 25lbs No. 8.d Hartford Conn. As you may notice you will also find the bottom is actually the top of the box. The owner opened from the bottom preserving the picture on the top which shows the landscape of the factory where the nails were made. As most of the lids were thrown away this may be a real one of a kind. You can see the dovetail joints on the corners and some wear at one of the corners.This box is solid.
