Beautiful antique primitive round wooden box with lid.wonderful patina.a rich medium brown. This box was made with no nails.the size is 3" across the top and 2 1/4" high with the lid on. This old box has a liner and there is wear and a little chipping of the rim on the liner.see the photos for a better description. I don't know who made the box.maybe Shakers?or what the box was used for. I think this is an amazing piece of craftmanship. Unmarked. The fine print! There is a crack in the veneer top left rear but this is due simply to age shrinking of the thick veneer. 2cm of boxwood stringing absent left lower rear corner. Vintage Oval Fingered Bentwood Shaker-Style Basket w/ Provenance
Up for auction is a nicely crafted shaker-style bentwood basket. This one is hand-crafted of solid bentwood. And in the best tradition of Shaker-style craftsmanship, it has fingered construction on the side held in place by small copper nails. The handle is of tapered carved bentwood and the base is a solid block of wood. Stamped into the base is the maker's mark, Allen D Androkites" with an image of a bentwood basket with the number 2. This nice basket displays very well; and still could be used for its original purpose to hold coins, keys, or other small personal items if desired. The basket is a nice medium size. Measuring an oval 5¾" x 3½" and just under 6" tall to the top of the bentwood handle. I am pleased to tell you that this basket is in perfect shape with no breaks, cracks, stains, or any other ... moredamage. I got this with a fraternal marching/military sash that could date from at least 1880 from the photos I have found. I think this may be older. Possibly much older. The design is nature influenced with flowers and birds and a basket weave pattern certainly pre dating Art Nouveau-they're symmetrical patterns arranged in a symmetrical order-rustic simplicity typical of early to mid 19th century motifs like Pennsylvania Dutch. Nothing on this bag required any machines and it appears to be completely hand made. Condition Notes: Remarkable conditions with a couple of holes where it looks like something used to be inserted.Light scratches and ... moresome fraying beginning on top. Sides. The leather is stiff as would be expected but shows no cracking and the bag can be open and closed without damaging the leather. Unless of course they were made in USA but there's something primitive and haunting about them which causes me to believe they were made in Cuba. Don't know. Just a"feeling" The WOOD is more the color of the 2nd photos. I lightened them to bring out the ETCHINGS or CARVINGS on them. Aquired these at an auction. I thought they were heavy door handles at first and wanted them for a pair of outdoor Wooden Patio Doors. Got them home and find they are more than that! They are SOLID DARK WOOD. I don't know what kind of Wood. They ... moreare heavy! They look like two Maracas but there is no rattle or shake to them as they a Solid Hard Wood of some kind. Then I discovered they are BOOK ENDS and have"CUBA" carved in one at the top of the Round Ball and"HABANA" carved on the other one. One has a house. Palm trees, a pond maybe, and just absolutely beautiful carvings there. I don't know what tool was used but it's very beautiful and well done. The other one has a Lighthouse and a sunset and water and again. It's all beautiful hand carving. PERHAPS SOMEONE OUT THERE HAD A RELATIVE OR A GRANDFATHER WHO CARVED THESE AND SOMEHOW BROUGHT THEM OR GOT THEM TO USA. The"Ghourds" or Round Wooden Balls are affixed by a couple of screws to the same color of wood as the Maracas looking pieces and they sit nicely. THESE ARE VERY UNIQUE! They stand about 7 to 8 inches tall. The"Maracas" are about 3&1/2 to 4 inches in diameter. The very tippy tip top of the Book End with"Cuba" on it has been broken off. I cannot decide if this box is Art Deco or possibly Art Nouveau going by the design to the top. Internally the box has been felt lined to the base and a piece of fabric has been affixed to the inside of the lid using drawing pin's which still has two long pins(hat pins) in place. VICTORIAN GLOVE BOX DECORATED WITH ROSEWOOD AND SATINWOOD BANDS
A most attractive Victorian glove box with rosewood and satinwood banding. A mother of pearl vacant cartouche to the lid and an engraved mother of pearl escutcheon. The inside is lined with watered silk which is in good order though slightly marked as shown. Inside the lid is a band for sliding through a pair of glove stretchers; the stitching has come away but could be restitched. Picture 4 shows a brown section under the left hinge; this is where a small piece of the lining paper has worn. It is not damaged wood. The brass hinges and brass lock are fine. The key is missing. Picture 6 is one end; the opposite end is not shown but is in excellent condition. The wood has a lovely patina and makes a wonderful display piece. 9 5/8" wide. 3 3/4" deep and 2 7/8" high.

It is beautifully hand crafted with tight woven stitching and shows a nice range of movement in the tapestry itself. It has strength and presence. This is a beautiful Early 19th Century Inlaid& Penwork Decorated Mahogany Veneered Tea Caddy. It measures approximately 7-1/2" x 4-1/4" x 4-3/4" high. It is in great condition with original brass hinges. Lock and metal hasp. The top shows an inlaid oval along with penwork flourishes in the corners. The front shows a beautiful inlaid fan. As shown in the photos, there are minor losses to the zipper inlay framing the oval panel on the top. The black knob on the top is an old replacement. Antique wooden jewellery trinket box solid silver corners ornate monogrammed
Over the next few weeks I am selling a large collection of antiques for my brother. Most have been acquired through auction houses. This is a beautiful Victorian jewellery or trinket box. Made of very dark wood and decorated with solid silver. Hallmarked. Monogrammed P and looks like a small"i" it may be that part of the second letter is missing. Also silver on the corners. The corners have maker's mark, think it is WW, and letter y which would date to 1888. Different date on the letter P. Capital C. I think this is Victorian. It is beautifully made. Lid opens and closes very well. There are some scratches on the top(and a sticker mark which can be removed) but a large split in the base. Measures approx 5" x 2 5/8" and 1 1/2" deep. BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE ROSEWOOD TEA CADDY 1860 box This is a beautiful ANTIQUE ROSEWOOD TEA CADDY In my estimation it dates from around the mid 19th Century. Circa 1850-1870, but please make up your own mind about this. The caddy measures approx 8 1/2 inches(215mm) wide. By 5 inches(225mm) deep, by 5 3/4 inches(150mm) tall and is made from polished rosewood. The lid opens and closes without issue. And has"stand up" hinges. It stands on four bun feet and has two lidded compartments inside. It is in very good condition. This is an adorable hand carved figural apple tea caddy in a fruitwood treenware. The apple is complete with its little stem. The tea caddy has a metal escutcheon plate with a working lock and key. The caddy is hinged in the back and is in good working order. The inside of the caddy is silver lined and the foot has been covered with felt. The caddy measures 6 inches tall by 4.5 inches wide. The caddy is in wonderful condition. However the silvered foil lining shows wear.
