ANTIQUE VINTAGE ASSORTED WOODEN SPOOLS OF CORTICELLI SILK AND COTTON THREAD
Great group here! 4 large spools in good condition plus colors are still bright. 3 of the 4 spools are wooden with the green cotton thread being on a cardboard core.Maker is star and core holds 5 yards of thread. Purple thread is silk and in excellant condition with tissue band wrap around still in place. Texto is the maker and spool holds 30 yards. Red and black thread is cotton and the makers are Ace and Merricks. Paper labels on ends of spools on these two in good condition also. See photos. 3 small spools of Corticelli silk thread are in good condition but there is slight fading of thread color on two. Colors are white. Plum and lime green. JAPANESE VINTAGE THICK WOODEN KAYA SHOGI CHESS GAME BOARD RICH AGED PATINA
I picked up this well played vintage shogi board at an auction in Japan last year. It is very similar in style to the board used in the game of go( goban) however it is smaller and has fewer grid spaces than the go board. This shogiban(shogi board) is made with one solid 5 5/8" 14.3 cm) thick top slab of solid kaiya wood. Check out the enlarged pictures which show the tight growth rings. It dates back to the early 1900's(0ver 100 years old) This board has four nicely carved 3 1/2" 9 cm) for a total height of 9 1/8" 23.5 cm) It has been well played yet well loved and has an rich glowing patina that years of loving use has provided. The top grid is well defined and very playable with lines slightly raised on the playing surface. The sides show tight growth rings in this solid slab of wood with absolutely no checks or cracks ... moreon this well cured time aged slab of kaya. Aside from some very minor scuffs and a few dings(see pictures 9& 10) but none deeper than 1/16" and a deep rich aged patina this board is in very fine condition. A comparable shogi board in Japan today would cost in excess of $2.000 dollars but lacks the character of this vintage piece. This well cured. Aged board is sure to stand the test of time for another century. It measures 14" by 12 3/4" top(36 x 33 cm) and stands 9 1/8" high(23.5 cm) and weighs in at a hefty 16 pounds. This well loved board has a fine warm patina that you will enjoy playing on for a lifetime. Lot of 3 different brands of vintage cheese boxes. All are 2 lb. boxes. Measuring approx. 9" long, 3" wide, and 2 3/4" tall. First box is a KRAFT American, manufactured by KRAFT CHEESE COMPANY, Chicago, ILL. Good graphics. The second box is a Borden's, distributed by THE BORDEN COMPANY NEW YORK, N.Y. Good graphics also. The third box is a Mel-O-Bit AMERICAN. The old gent must have made this into a cubby box, by dividing it into 3 sections. Beautifully lined in faux tortoise shell. Mother of pearl inlay on top. This snuff box has a blind hinge. It was purchased in England and is from about 1800. Excellent condition with one very minor crack to the wood on the hinge. There are no other imperfections. Very unusual for such an old piece. It measures 3 3/4" by 2 1/8" As you can see from the article which is in one of the pictures. The woman told me it had been her Grandmother's and dated to about 1900. I've forgotten what kind of wood it is but it's lovely. Some signs of normal wear commensurate to age. But nothing glaring such as gouges or significant nicks/chinks out of the wood. You can tell it was lovingly maintained, is solid and high end quality. The mirror swivels all the way around w/o issues. The drawer glides easily and the drawer compartment is clean. The legs are sound. Remnants of a sticker but that could be easily removed. Mahogany Candle Lamp Fern Stand Carved Horse Heads This is a beautiful mahogany three leg stand with carved stylized horse heads on the legs. Originally i thought the wood was walnut but upon close inspection of the grain i now believe it is mahogany. The stand is unmarked so it is difficult to determine age but i think this is from the 1900's perhaps a little earlier. This stand has a very folk art feel to it and i believe it was home made. In the top are 3 concentric circles that were turned into the surface though i am not sure why. The stand measures 31 inches tall 15 inches in diameter Condition: The stand is in very good condition with no breaks or cracks. The top looks funny and it looks like it was once repaired but i am not sure it was. I believe it was home made and they probably used whatever wood they had which is why the ... moretop looks repaired. It was probably not professionally jointed. If you look at the top from beneath you can see the texture of the two pieces of wood is different but the top has the concentric grooves which i think is original. The inside has three replacement wooden divisions and some rather curious boxes. There is a spoon compartment covered in green baize at the back. There is no lock. And I thinK the base/feet are probably replacement as well. The rest of the caddy is in good condition- a restoration project for someone. Because of all the boxes etc. it is quite heavy to post. TRULY SPECTACULAR 18TH CENTURY NAPOLEONIC PRISONER OF WAR STRAW WORK SEWING BOX
Considering that this gorgeous little Napoleonic Prisoner-of-War Sewing box—measuring 6-1/4” x 4” x 2” approximately)has been around for over 200 years. It is in astonishing condition, with very few losses. The lid is adorned with a cartouche containing a wonderful view of a large two-storyed house with a high fence in the background… perhaps a fort? Other buildings and trees are also visible. Flowers, leaves and trailing vines cover the balance of the lid. The other side(bottom) displays a gorgeous geometric design, clearly meant to showcase the talents of the maker. The spine of the book(box) is covered with large cursive writing probably intended to simulate the title. The box opens with a little knob on the front(depressed to open it) and there are three holes intended for the spools of thread contained in the three interior compartments. ... moreThe box has two tiny(1/4” spiral hinges. Inside. The shades of orange, dark green, mustard and brown are surely as vibrant as they were on the day the box was made. There is a delightful little mirror(approx. 1-1/2” x 1-3/4” in the center of the lid. Two lids open by means of pin closures with little black knobs to reveal the interior. At the back there is one large compartment which would’ve been intended to contain sewing implements; along the front are the three compartments mentioned earlier, one of which contains a later-made pincushion which can easily be removed in order to preserve the authenticity of the piece. The box will weigh over 1-lb. when packed. I believe. But I won’t know until it’s ready to go. DO NOT PAY UNTIL YOU HAVE MY INVOICE. PLEASE, or you may pay more than you have to. This is an antique handmade dovetail oak wooden box. It has a cross on the top which makes me believe it was used to store a bible. It is in good vintage condition and has a metal latch hook on the front. The inside of the lid is painted brown and it has a purple velvet liner on the bottom inside. Antique English Regency burl mahogany Tea Caddy circa 1840 - 1860
Beautiful antique burl mahogany tea caddy. As you can see in the pictures(it's better in person) the wood just shines. With a deep glow that only comes from age and beautiful wood being used. The caddy has four cabriole legs that splay out. With three interior compartments- each lined with an aluminum foil. The lids have long since been lost many years ago. This piece could be used as a jewelry box or even on the front entry piece as a catch all for keys. I put a very low reserve price on this piece. This is a Antique English Mahogany Wooden Double Tea Caddy Chest. This 19th Century English Double Tea Caddy measures 5-7/8" tall x 11-5/8" wide and 5-7/8" deep. There is a piece of inlay or bone inlay missing around the keyhole. The knobs are made of bone. The center mixing bowl is missing as well as two small pieces of veneer. It is a nice size and reflects the times of its use. The shipping prices reflects a large box with sufficient packing for protection.

The handles are nailed on. On the one side it says what looks to be a F or J and UL(for July? and 1906. There are no chips or cracks. It measures 5 1/2" wide handle-to-handle and 4 1/4" at the bottom x 2 1/4" deep. It is 4" tall from the top of the handle to the bottom. This is a nice large Burl Walnut Brass bound lap desk with a beautiful red tooled leather interior and a secret area in the interior with three small drawers. The leather is original and is split at the seam where the box folds. But that really doesn't detract from the beauty of this desk it's original antique condition. This piece has it's usual small dings and dents as with any piece this age. There is an old crack that was repaired across the top but it is tight. Antique Victorian Mahogany& Brass Banded Writing Slope Box for Restoration This is an antique writing slope in well figured Mahogany veneer inlaid with brass bands and with brass edgings to the top and front. I'd date it to between about 1840 and 1880. It has original brass plate in the lid and escutcheon- the lock is complete. Has a key, and it works. Inside the boards are lacking, but there are two inkwells( minus lids, but still with the remnants of blue and black ink) All the brass edgings and bandings are intact. It was a really good quality item- with some work it could be again. Or it is a fantastic source of spare veneers, lock, hinges etc. etc. to repair other similar boxes. Size: box is 12 x 9 x 4 1/2 inches(30 x 23 x 11.5 cm) Weight: 1419 grammes Condition: Faults are- one broken hinge( repairable if you can braze. As both ... moreparts are present and it is not seized up) missing internal boards, Split to the top, split to the base and the base is loose- one very small piece of veneer missing at the side.
