LOVELY PAIR OF ART NOUVEAU NORTH AMERICAN NATIVE INDIAN GILT CAST IRON BOOKENDS
Why not have a look at my other auctions and store items for interesting militaria etc? Here is a lovely set of bookends. Likely made from the 1880's to the 1940's. They are certainly Art Nouveau style but then the Native romantic period approximately spans those years too. These are cast iron with a lovely gold patina, not unlike a Vienna bronze finish. Each is 4 1/4" wide and 3 5/8" tall. The pair is in excellent condition. The fellow depicted is wearing a chief's head dress of eagle feathers, a medallion around his neck and typical choker neckband. They're a great set of turn-of-the-century art and would make a nice addition to any Art Nouveau collection, as well as any library collection. Perfect also for an Art Deco book case. Shipping will be $15 in Canada. $15 in the USA and $25 to all other international ... morelocations. International shipping is airmail only. I automatically combine shipping costs for multiple items Good luck and thanks for looking at one of my auctions. I Accept personal cheques drawn on Canadian banks. ANTIQUE AMERICAN INDIAN ART - Peabody Essex Museum Native American folk art book
Uncommon Legacies: Native American Art from the Peabody Essex Museum" By John Grimes. Published by the American Federation of Arts& the University of Washington Press in 2002. DISCUSSION: In the glorious period of great sailing ships. New England mariners brought back treasures from far lands. The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, grew out of the East India Marine Society's desire, in 1799, to protect such'curiosities' in a museum. Later additions, including modern Native American works, have since filled out the collection. This book commemorates the opening of a new permanent gallery for Native American art. Three excellent essays introduce the history of collecting in general, the growth of collections of Native Americana, and the evolution of the Peabody Essex. Another essay on modern Native American art points the ... moreway to the future. Following are 119 glowing plates of the individual objects, with extensive notes on each. Each geographic area represented is defined with a short essay. A good overview of Native American art. DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 9”x12” 272 pages, color and some black& white illustrations. 13x15 Native American Indian Sand Art SIGNED David Villasenor Framed Hopi Navajo
Up for auction is this beautiful and original sand art painting by famous and master sand artist. David Villaseñor. This looks to have been a gift to a Dr. Oscar Brunler in the early 1960s. It measures about 13" inches by 16" inches and is 1.5" inches thick(32 cm by 40 cm by 4 cm) This came from a private collection and is entitled"THE MYSTIC MEDITATION OF THE BIRD SPIRIT" The back shows the title and sand types used and where they came from(Native American sites) This one is wonderfully decorated in intricate colors with a dark round center encapsulating the birds. It is also wonderfully framed in carved wood that have grooves carved out to add a textural dimension to the artwork. I've owned several of this artist's pieces and this is by far the most intricately detailed and the largest and beautiful! ... moreIt is signed by the famous artist and the piece is in EXCELLENT condition. The tribe is either Navajo or Hopi based on his other works. His works do sell at auctions and his pieces are considered some of the finest in sand art. He published books and taught many on this fine art when he was alive. His original pieces are getting harder and harder to find. Please enjoy all the photos provided. The beautiful vintage sand art framed painting by David Villasenor pictured is exactly what the winner will receive! Thanks for looking and good luck! Posted with

2228 Native American Indian Antique Photos CD - Curtis HISTORIC INDIAN ART
Indian Edward Curtis North American Indian Collection 2.228 images of American History Perfect for the historian. The student, or the lover of American Indian History! Digitally captured for your eternal collection! The North American Indian by Edward S. Curtis is one of the most significant and controversial representations of traditional American Indian culture ever produced. Issued in a limited edition from 1907-1930. The publication continues to exert a major influence on the image of Indians in popular culture. Curtis said he wanted to document"the old time Indian, his dress, his ceremonies, his life and manners. In over 2000 photogravure plates and narrative, Curtis portrayed the traditional customs and lifeways of eighty Indian tribes. The twenty volumes, each with an accompanying portfolio, are organized by tribes and culture ... moreareas encompassing the Great Plains, Great Basin, Plateau Region, Southwest, California, Pacific Northwest, and Alaska. Featured here are all of the published photogravure images including over 1500 illustrations bound in the text volumes, along with over 700 portfolio plates. This is not a Native American reproduction artifact. Rather this is a digitization of work done by a photographer. Edward Curtis, in the early 1900's who took thousands of images of Native Americans to document their way of living. This item does not fall under the 1935 Indian Arts and Crafts Act because the work depicted was done a) prior to 1930, and b) not an Indian art or craft made by an Indian. This digital collection presents the 2228 illustrations from The North American Indian by Edward S. Curtis. Many of the striking images from The North American Indian have been reproduced widely. Especially since the 1970s. While there is controversy about how Curtis romanticized American Indian culture, the intention of this digital collection is to present all of the published images in their entirety, with comprehensive identifying data including plate numbering, dimensions, and the original captions by
