Antique 18th century Russian Icon dated 1793 Russische Ikone
Dear Ebayer L'ATELIER SALON PRESENTS! This silver oklad icon originates in Russia and dates to the year 1793. It represents Saint John Chrysostom and St. John the Evangelist conversing in a garden. The two saints are portrayed full-length. Turning towards each other, dressed in ecclesiastical garments. John Chrysostom was Archbishop of Constantinople and one of the Three Hierarchs. Here he raises his right hand and holds a book, presumably one of his liturgies. Saint John the Evangelist also raises a hand in conversation and carries a book that shows the text of the Revelation. The Holy Spirit is represented as a flying dove. The edge is adorned with floral and vegetal patterns. The oklad shows three hallmarks at the edge. One of which reads‘1793’ The Saints are labelled in Cyrillic on the oklad and the piece is in good condition. The ... moreoklad is slightly detached from the wood on one side and the representation of John the Baptist shows some color abrasions.
