Offering an Antique 1700's All Original Condition Hand Painted Russian Icon. Painting depicts Saint Francis inside a double layered wooden gold gilt frame. Painting is on a single layer of hand chamfered wood. Icon is large sized and in it's original untouched condition. Icon measures 24 7/8 inches tall by 14 7/8 inches wide at top. 12 3/4 inches wide at center and 14 5/8 inches wide at bottom. The icon measures 1 3/4 inches thick. There is some expected chipping, crazing and a couple cracks to paint due to the age of this piece. Painting is very well done. Please refer to large size pictures for close up details.

This icon is 9"L x 6 3/4"W. Hand painted on solid wood block. This is NOT a paper print applied to wood as so many found on ebay are. It is also not a small pocket size. These are a good size and perfect for displaying. They are 20 years old and since they are simply painted on wood they all have a VERY SLIGHT warp to them. This listing is for a 19 th century silver gilt and hand painted Russian icon of a saint. The icon is oval in shape and measures 5 inches high to the top of the loop and is 3 ½ inches or 12.5 by 9 cm. The icon comes with a fitted wood case lined with magenta velvet. The icon features a male saint holding a book in his left hand and his other hand is raised making the sign of the cross. The hand painted portrait is done with excellent attention to detail. The silver work around the portrait is very detailed with precise engraved work. It is marked on the front lower left of the icon with the combined city standard mark for Moscow along with a makers mark. The silver has been tested and is guaranteed to be so. There is a small loop at the top for hanging. The icon is in very good condition for its age. With craquelure to the paint and ... morevariations to the gilt patina on the silver. RARE ANTIQUE RUSSIAN 1850s MONASTIC SAINT NIL CARVED WOOD ICON statue
RARE RUSSIAN 1850s ST.NIL CARVED WOOD STATUE. Height 8.5" Very good condition. Saint Nil was tonsured a monk in 1505 at St. Sabbas of Krypetsk Monastery near Pskov. After 10 years. He left the monastery for solitude outside of the city of Ostashkova by the Seremi River. He did battle with the demons and prevailed through prayer and asceticism. Many from that region started to come to him for advice and instruction. He asked God to lead him to a quieter place where he would not be constantly interrupted in his prayers. He heard a voice telling him to go to Stolobnoye Island in Lake Seliger. He moved there in 1528 and dug out a small cave in the hill on the middle of the island. Later, he built a hut. He continued to do battle with the devil and his demons. This led them to prompt someone to set fire to the dense woods on the island, but ... morethe flames went out miraculously when they reached the saint's hill. Once, a band of robbers came to the island. Nil told them, All my treasure is in the corner of the cell. They went to search there for money, but all that was there was an icon of the Theotokos. They became blind, and begged for forgiveness with tears of repentance. St. Nil ministered to them. At the proper time, St. Nil was told to prepare for his death. He dug a grave. An igumen from a nearby monastery visited him to bring him the Eucharist. St. Nil communed, censed the icons in his cell and prayed, then surrendered his soul to the Lord on December 7, 1554. A monastery was established on the island, named for St. Nil. It had a wooden church built over the grave of the saint. In 1667, it was decided to tear down the wooden church and replace it with one out of stone. On May 27, they were digging for the foundation, and the earth gave way to reveal St. Nil's uncorrupt remains. They were translated to the church of the Theotokos of the Sign in Ostashkova. Dated around 1870-1890, probably from southern Russia or Ucraine. The icon is very well preserved, it has not been cleaned or restored, it is 100 authentic and contains the authentic varnish which gives a very nice light yellow oxidised patina. It depicts the beheading of Saint John the Baptist in jail and in the corner we see Salome the princess who is waiting to take the head in order to offer it it her mother. His parents, Isidore and Agathia Moshnin, lived in Kursk, Russia; Isidore was a merchant. At the age of 10, Prokhor became seriously ill. During the course of his illness, he saw the Mother of God in his sleep, who promised to heal him. Several days later there was a religious procession in Kursk with the locally revered ... moremiracle-working icon of the Mother of God. Due to bad weather, the procession took an abbreviated route past the house of the Moshnin family. After his mother put Prokhor up to the miracle-working image, he recovered rapidly. While at a young age, he needed to help his parents with their shop, but business had little appeal for him. Young Prokhor loved to read the lives of the saints, to attend church, and to withdraw into seclusion for prayer. At the age of 18. Prokhor firmly decided to become a monk. His mother blessed him with a large copper cross which he wore over his clothing all his life. After this, he entered the Sarov monastery as a novice. Monastic Life From day one in the monastery. Exceptional abstinence from food and slumber were the distinguishing features of his life. He ate once a day, and little. On Wednesdays and Fridays he ate nothing. After asking the blessing of his starets(a spiritual elder) he began to withdraw often into the forest for prayer and religious contemplation. He became severely ill again soon after, and was forced to spend most of the course of the next three years lying down. Prokhor was once again healed by the Most Holy Virgin Mary. W

But he concealed his origin and led the life of a beggar. He walked through the villages and for free sewed half-coats and other clothes, primarily for the poor. While doing this he deliberately failed to sew something, either a glove, or a scarf, for which he endured abuse from his customers. The ascetic wandered much. But most often he lived at a churchyard of the village of Merkushinsk not far from the city of Verhotursk(on the outskirts of Perm) St Simeon loved nature in the Urals, and while joyfully contemplated its majestic beauty, he would raise up a thoughtful glance towards the Creator of the world. ... moreIn his free time, the saint loved to go fishing in the tranquility of solitude. This reminded him of the disciples of Christ, whose work he continued, guiding the local people in the true Faith. His conversations were a seed of grace, from which gradually grew the abundant fruits of the Spirit in the Urals and in Siberia, where the saint is especially revered. St Simeon of Verhotursk reposed in the Lord in 1642. When he was 35 years of age. He was buried in the Merkushinsk graveyard by the church of the Archangel Michael. On September 12. 1704, with the blessing of Metropolitan Philotheus of Tobolsk, the holy relics of St Simeon were transferred from the church of the Archangel Michael to the Verhotursk monastery in the name of St Nicholas. St Simeon worked many miracles after his death. He frequently appeared to the sick in dreams and healed them. And he brought to their senses those fallen into the disease of drunkenness. A peculiarity of the saint’s appearances was that with the healing of bodily infirmities, he also gave instruction and guidance for the soul.
