Laurus, Spiridon, Vlasiy" Description: Russian South-West Slavonic region. Judging by the style of execution. The simplicity of the composition and the modesty of colors in the artist's palette, perhaps, this icon was painted by monk of local monastery, which usually was located on the bank of the river or the lake, with a streams, filled with the natural earthly minerals or stones, used as a pigment for the paint of egg tempera. Medium: egg tempera on the wood panel. He is depicted holding the Mandyl ion; on the sides are St. Spiridon(left) and St. Vlasiy(right) Far left and right depicted twin brothers. Saint Martyrs Florus and Laurus, both were revered as saints-patrons of the horse-breeding. Important provenance: This icon is from the Estate of the Duchess of Caylus.
