There was a piece of paper alluding to the protective finish applied to the terra cotta to protect it but I lost this paper. It's a very nice old piece with no real damage. There are two places on the lip where the protective coating has chipped away but that's it. This old beauty measures approx. 6 1/2" tall. In ancient Egypt the frog was a symbol of fertility because when the Nile flooded and the fields became fertile with river silt. This is a stunning large sized hand crafted blackware terra-cotta Jug from the Bronze Age also known as the"Old Testament Period" From an excavation site in or near Jerusalem. This stunning piece of blackware terra-cotta was most likely used for water or wine from its design. It has a beautiful shape. A rare rounded bottom, and curved spout. It has obtained a beautiful patina over the years and a hand engraved pattern wrapping the top of the jug.the jug measures 7 1/2 inches up and down by 8 inches wide. It was discovered with two chips at the rim of the pot.It is a museum quality piece dating 3200- 1100 BC. This is an oil lamp that is a reproduction of an original. It is of a style that is associated with the Holy Lands. It is terra cotta. And has a Menorah as its central design element. It was. Ancient Spindle Form Perfume Bottle Terra Cotta Middle Eastern
This ancient spindle form terra cotta perfume bottle is 4-5/8" high. It comes from the estate of a long time collector who bought it from a reputable gallery in New York City. Which has recently confirmed the identity of the piece. It dates to about 300 B.C. and comes from Israel or the nearby area. The condition is very good, no significant chips or cracks. There is slight roughness around the top and what appears to be a firing crack on the bottom, with a small flake off the bottom edge. There is a small black spot on the neck which looks like bitumen, or perhaps residue of the perfume ointment, but I cannot be sure. This is an ancient bottle and exhibits signs of its age.
