Terra cotta pottery shard of a bird head or man/bird head, clay figure was obviously part of a larger piece, I believe this shard came from either Mexico or possibly Georgia or north Florida area of all places, I was told it was either Mayan or Caribe Indian in origin, measures 2 3/4" x 1 3/4" x 1 1/2" in very good condition as shown in photos, very unusual relief or figural piece of ancient pottery. Two African Antique Busts TERRA COTTA CLAY HEAD ARTIFACT
Uncle Ed had these sitting on his fire place mantel as long as he can remember. I think he moved here in the late 60's. There is a chip or two that reviles that they are made out of some type of clay therefore we are describing them as Terra Cot-ta. I have shown them to two experts that could not give me a value but said they are most likely Nigerian. They are each 24 inches tall with the stand. The heads alone are 18 inches from top to bottom and weigh 6.5 LBS each. The stands are 8 inches tall. One is a male and the other a female. A metal rod is attached to the head to drop into a hole on the top of the stand. There are no markings on the heads. Handmade! They will be shipped in separate boxes.

It measures 4 1/2" tall. The top of the head has a recessed holder for the matches, and there is a leaf shape striker on the front, and also a rough patch for striking on the back of the head. I have been listing some items that belonged to my Mom and Dad. This is one that was my Mom's. She had it on her kitchen window sill in Tucson AZ. There was a small cactus in it. It's really a cool piece of pottery. I don't know anything about it's origin unfortunately. I like the primitive style of the bowl. It's in great pre owned condition. No chips or cracks. There is a small deliberate hole in the bottom for drainage. It stands 6" tall and the bowl is 3 3/4' in diameter and 3" deep. The footed bowl portion has a semi gloss clear glaze on it and the head portion does not.
