It features an angel facing right, and holding a staff with loop& cross. The design is quite sturdy, with heavy bands and thick bezel, and the ring is very handsome character. The"bezel" or center part of this ring depicts a starburst; over which is superimposed a very distinct cross. Starburst themes of one variety or another were a very popular geometric design during the first few centuries A.D. and the starburst design engraved into the surface of this bezel is done very nicely. Many of the starburst designs were actually enhanced cross designs known as a“stellata cross” amongst other variants. Though the starburst design was a classic and typical(pagan) Roman theme. It was eventually co-opted by the ancient Christians. By the fourth century A.D. the cross element was generally more accentuated than is the case with this specimen, and was known as a“stellata” This particular specimen is a very close precursor to the fourth century stellata, though in some later examples the cross was a little more of a cross and a little less of a star. To either side of the bezel are raised shoulders, created by building up the band on either side of the bezel. It gives the ring a sculpted look
