ANTIQUE/VINTAGE LOT OF 60 METAL BUTTONS, VICTORIAN, GAY 90'S, STEELS,PICTURES,NR
This is a lot of 60 antique/vintage metal buttons. This is not the lot that I auctioned that is just ending now. These are larger. I collected these. As I found them, over time. There is a nice variety here and in a variety of sizes. They range in diameter from 3/4" to 1 5/8" I have broken them down into groups of six, and pictures 2-11 show them in close-up, so you can see what is here. I started with the largest ones in picture 2, and tried to work down in size from there. I included a quarter at the top of each picture to give you a size comparison. Each button is different and I gave them a light cleaning. All have their shanks, but some of those may be bent. I noticed some light rust on the backs of several. These are not perfect, but are just so much fun, and will surely be enjoyed for years to come. There are a few Gay 90's(pictures ... more2& 8) one with glass(picture 3, top right) several with an Art Deco feel, pictorials, cut steel, cages, and many others. As I worked to clean them, I thought that each one was special in its own way. The pictures will do a much better job of describing them to you than I can. Sizes range from 1 1/4" to 3/8" The largest of the lot are the faceted buttons.these have some little flea bites on them little flea bite chips. Some of the others have tiny tiny chips as well. It has a duller finish and is more lightweight than the others. It leaves a faint black mark when rubbed across paper. I don't think this was a button because there is no shank and no sew-through. It is stunning and can be adapted for several uses with fashion or altered arts. This is a fabulous set of matching gold luster imprinted 5/8" cushion-shaped buttons. Two have a little wear to the gold and the rest are brilliant. All are strung together except for one. This is more than likely from the late 1800's or turn of the century. It belonged to her grandmother. I am positive that this was hand quilted and embroidered. I am pretty sure that the material is silk. The embroidery thread appears to be silk as well. It just so happens that my high school home-ec teacher was in the other day and I showed this to her. She thought the material was silk as well. The bottom does have some tattered spots. There are some stains and loose threads. I only see one little hole in the material. I may have overlooked others, but if I did, they are very small. The color of the material is a tan or khaki. Pic ... more3 shows a better view of the true color. One of the Mother of Pearl buttons is missing and one is broken. It looks like there is some kind of cotton lined in between the material. This piece is not being sold for a baby to wear. 3 GORGEOUS ANTIQUE GAY 90's STEEL CUT & CELLULOID BUTTONS
3 GORGEOUS ANTIQUE BUTTONS that I believe are from the 1890's and are called GAY 90's for their bold design and flair! All 3 of these are grouped together because they do not have their shanks on the back. I'm not sure if they still have value but they certainly are beautiful. The largest one with the purple glass stone measures 1 3/4" in diameter. The steel cut button is 1 1/2" diameter and the smallest with the celluloid center is 1 1/4" They are so much nicer then my photos so bid with confidence. This auction is for four(4) antique Victorian. Rare and very hard-to-find tiny, delicate brass pierced metal buttons. You can see a"twinkle" inside the filigreed area. I believe they are also called"twinkle" buttons. These were on their original card from France which was totally shattered into bits and there is only some old yarn still connected to the two of the buttons. They are so very sweet and a must for the collector. They each measure approximately 1/4" in diameter and about 3/16" in depth. PLEASE NOTE: the filigree work is very. Very tiny with fine detail. They are constructed of gold-ton e metal(the color of 18 k gold) and each is embellished with a center flowe r. Four small circ les and four moon-shaped faceted s teel cut silvery-black glass.
