The keys to its appeal were that it looked superficially like the very much finer and very much more expensive blown iridescent glass by. Loetz and others and also that the cheerful bright finish caught the light even in dark corners of the home. Both functional and ornamental objects were produced in the carnival finish and patterns ranged from simple through geometric and'cut' ... morestyles to pictorial and figurative. A wide range of colors and color combinations were used but the most common colors accounted for a large proportion of output, so scarce colors can today command very high prices on the collector market. Carnival glass has been known by many other names in the past: aurora glass, dope glass, rainbow glass, taffeta glass, and disparagingly as'poor man's Tiffany' Its current name was adopted by collectors in the 1950s from the fact that it was sometimes given as prizes at carnivals, fetes& fairgrounds. Boston Sandwich Glass Overshot Pitcher
This is a Boston sandwich glass overshot pitcher. It is 13.5" tall and about 9" wide. The top part of the handle has been broken off and glued back on but it's only the very top edge of the handle. The handle and the rest of the pitcher show no other damage. It has an ice compartment in the pitcher. Right under the handle the vase indents in about 5.5" where the ice goes to cool the liquid inside. This is a remarkable piece with great value. It would be a stunning collectors item or a piece that you show off in your home.

This beautiful old clear glass decanter/ pitcher in the thousand eye/ eyes pattern was blown into a four part mold(and a three part mold was used for the stopper) Several companies made this pattern. So we will have to leave it up to the experts in antique glass to determine which company made this fine and rare pitcher/ decanter. The exact dating also will be left to the experts. The clarity and quality of this piece(including the blown base) indicate an early date. It is in good used condition. There are no cracks. On the bottom of the stopper. Some little marks are either very small chips or imperfections from the glass molding process. The only surface"roughness" is from the pontil marks. We have never used it; it has just been displayed. Inside, around the perimeter edge of the base, there is a slight white ring. We never washed the inside, but the new owner might want to- to make this piece even more perfect. On the stopper some of the convex eyes in one area on the lower half have little"dimples" on the tips- they did not completely fill in with glass in the mold.

American Historical Glass A Large Antique EAPG Water Pitcher c.1880's Garfield Drape Pattern_ DESCRIPTION A fine piece of antique historical pattern glass. T he pattern name is GARFIELD DRAPE in memory of the twentieth President of the United States. James Abram Garfield who was shot by an assassin on July 2, 1881 and died eleven weeks later, less than 4 months into his presidency. Known as the last of the LOG CABIN Presidents, Garfield came from humble roots and rose to the highest office in our country. This pattern with it's beautiful triple beaded swags and flowers on a stippled background has an understated simplicity. It was produced by Adams& Company of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania from the 1870's through the late 1880's. Many folks believe this pattern to have been known by another name(Festoon) prior to Garfields death ... morein 1881. The Adams company changed the name to link it to the memorial plate made by them in the same pattern to commemorate President Garfield death. Many different serving pieces were produced in this pattern. Some have become exceedingly collectible, and consequently difficult to find. These gorgeous bulbous form large and heavy 64 ounce water pitchers with applied handles are one of the most sought after items. The high standard cake stand and covered compote are also costly, rare and desirable. Of superior quality. This is crystal clear glass and in pristine condition. The applied tooled handle is fabulous. It has the chevron mark at the top and attaches at the bottom directly over the top of one of the three mold lines. Those mold lines occur just below the waist of the pitcher. And are decorated with tiny leaves and flowers. The decoration under and immediately alongside of the handle is not pronounced due to the application of the hot glass melting the raised decoration. There is a chip on the very edge of the top rim in two places on the"pie crust" pinched ruffles. They are not easily noticed because of the location. But can be felt by hand and also can be seen if you realize that they are there. Also, there is either heat check or former damage to the top area on the applied handle. Gold band. Stylus made dots of paint form pretty patterns on the frosted glass. The pitcher has no chips or cracks or scratches. On the bottom of the pitcher it is rough. Showing that it is a delicate hand blown piece. The glasses match the pitcher. Both have tiny chips along the mouth of the glass. These could easily be repaired. McKee Cut Glass Innovation Design American Brilliant Period Sugar Creamer Set
You are bidding on a beautiful creamer and sugar set from the McKee Glass Co. Innovation Design line of cut glass. Both pieces are covered with a variety of cuts and designs. There are many areas resembling caning. They each feature wheel cut 12 petal daisy flowers with cross-hatched centers. Wedge cut leaves and they have saw tooth rims. The design cuts are deep and well defined giving this set a beautiful brilliance. Each piece has a 16 point starburst on the bottom. They are not signed and although they are not mint they are in good condition for pieces this old. There is some visible light wear to the bottoms. The creamer has a small scuff to the handle and the handle has been cracked and apparently glued(which I didn’t even realize until I felt the area) Please see photos. There are also about 6 areas where there are tiny etchings outside ... morethe actual etched area(see photos) I really don’t know anything about this glass cutting process and so I don’t know if these are mistakes or just part of the process. The sugar bowl has one tiny scuff mark near a handle. Both pieces have a few tiny nips but no other cracks or chips and no stains. The sugar bowl measures 4 ¼” round. 3” high, 7 ¼” handle to handle and weighs about 18oz. The creamer measures 3 ½” round. 3 ¼” high, 6 ¼” handle to spout and weighs about 18oz. Unique pottery syrup pitcher with a blue greek key design encircled with borders of black dots. Syrup is light grey with tiny light brown flecks. Very good condition- original hinged lid. No identifying marks as to the maker. Measures approximately 6" tall x 3" across the base. There are two very small cracks or voids in the handle and several tiny cracks on the base of the handle where it was applied to the syrup. There is also a crack on the interior of the base which I am unable to show in the photos. It does not come through to the exterior. There is also a distinct even line around the syrup(through the blue design on the lower portion) as though it was assembled in two parts before firing.
