Paleolithic items of adornment have been unearthed that date back 75.000-100,000 years. It is theorized that jewelry originated as a purely functional item used to fasten animal hides together allowing them to be worn as clothing. Findings suggest ... morethat jewelry making became more prevalent over 40.000 years ago as mankind migrated from Africa and the Middle East into continental Europe. Early necklaces and bracelets were made from readily available materials such as bone, teeth, shells and stone strung together using twine from animal sinew or catgut. The forging of copper some 7.000 years ago allowed metal to be utilized as a material to craft jewelry. The smelting of copper and tin to make the alloy bronze heralded the advent of the Bronze Age some 5.000-6,000 years ago. Ancient Bronze Roman Judaea Israel Phoenice Philistine Bracelet Plaque 100AD
Genuine Ancient Roman Bronze Bracelet Circa 100 A.D. CLASSIFICATION: Roman Bronze Arm Bracelet. Mounted into Glass-Fronted Display Plaque. ATTRIBUTION: Eastern Roman Empire Provincial Judaea(present-day Israel/Palestine) 1st Century A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Outside Diameter: 52* 47 millimeters. Inside Diameter: 47 1/2* 42 1/2 millimeters. 3mm Diameter Round Bronze Stock. Weight: 6.51 grams. Plaque Size: 170* 120 millimeters(7* 5 USA inches) ARTIFACT CONDITION: Good. Intact of sound integrity. But repaired(was broken in half) Moderately light porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: A well preserved. Though very simple Roman bronze bracelet circa 1st century A.D. Clearly worn by a child of Ancient Rome(children being considerably smaller than contemporary populations) it would surely ... morefit no-one except for an infant today. The bracelet was recovered in two pieces, which were mended together. Inasmuch as it was fractured once, it would be too susceptible to fracturing again to wear it as a bracelet or even as a pendant on a chain. As is ordinarily the case, the artifact does exhibit some moderately light porosity(surface pitting caused by burial in earth. Although this specimen possesses obvious and unmistakable signs of burial, the piece is not heavily corroded or disfigured. More often than not small ancient metal artifacts such as this are extensively disfigured and suffer substantial degradation as a consequence of the ordeal of being buried for millennia. It is not at all unusual to find metal artifacts decomposed to the point where they are not much more substantial than discolored patterns in the soil. Actually most smaller ancient artifacts such as this are so badly oxidized that oftentimes all that is left is a green(bronze) or red(iron) stain in the soil. Or an artifact which crumbles in your hand. However this specimen is not so heavily afflicted, and certainly has not been disfigured. Relative to the usual condition such a

Moderately heavy porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: A well preserved. Though very simple Roman bronze bracelet circa 1st century A.D. Simple as it is, it does sport the fairly uncommon feature of ... morehaving overlapping ends. It would fit a woman of medium build or a man of slender build, and with that caveat, is completely and eminently wearable. The bracelet was recovered unbroken and intact. As is ordinarily the case, the artifact exhibits moderately porosity(surface pitting caused by burial in earth) Unlike so many smaller bronze artifacts which are completely disfigured by corrosion, this particular piece happened to come to rest in fairly gentle soil conditions. The consequence is that though you can see upon close scrutiny clear evidence that this bracelet spent millennia buried beneath the ground, nonetheless to casual examination it is quite pleasant, with the rich, warm glow of ancient bronze. To casual scrutiny it seems simply a primitive bracelet. These slight blemishes are not immediately discernible. Of course in these photo enlargements these blemishes are quite distinct. But in hand, to the casual observer, it simply appears a nicely toned bronze bracelet. Though simple it is sturdy and well constructed, and entirely intact. Despite the obvious signs of burial, the piece is not heavily corroded or disfigured as are commonly most smaller ancient

LOT OF 2 WIDOW'S MITES, BRONZE COINS / JESUS CHRIST / BIBLICAL TIME
LOT OF TWO WIDOW'S MITES! BRONZE COINS/ JESUS CHRIST/ BIBLICAL TIME Widow's Mites of Mark 12-41 Jesus said. I tell you the truth, this poor widow put more into the treasury than all the others. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on. Mark 12:41) An enduring symbol of faith and sacrifice. The legend of the Widow's Mite comes straight from the pages of the Bible. This authentic bronze coin actually circulated during the Biblical time of the New Testament, 100 B.C. 60 A.D. The smallest of all Roman coins, its Biblical name comes from the story in Mark 12:41-44 when Jesus praised a poor widow for giving all she had- her last two coins- while rich townspeople gave only a small portion of their wealth. Two Widow's Mites. One bid two ... morecoins, exact amount of the poor widow's giving! Size: 10-15 mm; Materials: Bronze. The 2 coins in the picture are the 2 coins you will receive! Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins. Worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, I tell you the truth, this poor widow put more into the treasury than all the others. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on. The Judaean Widow's Mite bronze coin is one of the most noteworthy and sought after of all ancient coins. As the biblical parable goes. A poor widow gives her entire wealth. two mites. to the poor. Jesus proclaims that since she gave all that she had, she is much more generous than the rich man who gave only a small fraction of his wealth. It is from this story that the coin gained its well-known name. The Widow's Mite was the coin of the common man. It was crudely struck. Even by ancient standards,

The forging of copper some 7.000 years ago allowed metal to be utilized as a material to craft jewelry. The smelting of copper and tin to make the alloy bronze heralded the advent of the Bronze Age some 5.000-6,000 years ago. It is conceivable that metal workers used their knowledge of metallurgy to craft items of adornment as well as tools and weapons. Jewelry has served(and continues to serve) three basic roles. As an ornament it attracts attention and could be used as a testament to hunting prowess or more general attributes. As an amulet holding supernatural power it protected the wearer against physical harm. Warded off evil and healed ailments. As society evolved it also became a symbol of wealth or social standing. Rings were extremely popular among the Romans. Their faith in the curative and protective powers attributed to some stones(as well as shapes and images) provided additional incentive to wear these amulets on their fingers. There were certain rules in the fashion of rings that were strictly observed. Plain bronze an

The Northern Kingdom was conquered into the Neo-Assyrian Empire in 720 BCE. The Kingdom of Judah remained nominally independent, but paid tribute to the Assyrian Empire from 715 and throughout the first half of the 7th century BCE, regaining its independence as the Assyrian Empire declined after 640 BCE, but after 609 again fell under the sway of imperial rule, this time paying tribute at first to the Egyptians and after 601 BCE to the Neo-Babylonian Empire, until 586 BCE, when it was finally conquered by Babylonia. Roman conquest Judea lost its independence to the Romans in the 1st century BCE. By becoming first a tributary kingdom, then a province, of the Roman Empire. The Romans had allied themselves to the Maccabees and interfered again in 63 BCE, at the end of the Third Mithridatic War, when the proconsul Pompeius Magnus(Pompey the Great" stayed behind to make the area secure for Rome. Queen Alexandra Salome had recently died, and a civil war broke out between her sons, Hyrcanus II and Aristobulus II. Pompeius restored Hyrcanus but political rule passed to the Herodian family who ruled as client kings. In 6 CE, Judea came under direct Roman rule as the province ofIudaea. Eventually, the Jews rose against Roman rule in 66 CE in a revolt that was unsucce
