You are bidding on a framed white jade plaque/ medallion. Wadang the tiger with the pearl of life above it. The medallion measures 4 inches in diameter ... moreand about 1/2 an inch thick. The frame is sealed with a glass front and measures 9.5 by 9.5 inches and weighs almost 2lbs. This is a white jade copy of the Wadang, Soul of Oriental Architecture I have viewed an article on China Culture.org that shows the tiger exactly in clay. These were laid on roofs for many reasons. This framed jade piece probably hung in an office. The tiger with the pearl of life above it. The framed piece is modern. The characters under the word wadang talks about the process of the tiles and how they are attached to the roof. The first tile in each row of the roof tiles is called awadang, since dang in archaic Chinese means the"end. The first tiles are usually placed underneath each row and all the way along the eaves of the sloping roof, hence the English name oftile-endsor eaves tiles. The wadang is an important component and ornament of traditionalChinese architecture, with both protective and decorative functions. Wadangs adorned with molded designs can be cast back to the WesternZhou Dynasty(1100-771BC) but the use of stylized characters as architectural ornaments appeared in the State of Yan during theWarring States Period(475-221BC) The tradition flourished during the Qin(221-206BC) and Han(206BC-220AD) dynasties, and is therefore known as"Qin brick and Han tile. Wadangs of theQin Dynastywere commonly decorated with patterns of animals, most particularly the deer. The Chinese word for deer is lu, which is similar in pronunciation to that for wealth. The deer was hence a common decorative motif during the Qin Period. In theHan Dynasty, the technique of making wadangs reached its peak. The designs were elaborate and wadangs decorated with zhuan(seal script) especially xiaozhuan(lesser seal script) came into being. Good luck bidding

Each volume undertakes to describe the major events that happened in one specific time period(or“age” in the development of mankind’s civilization(s) The volumes are richly illustrated. And designed as an introduction to the time frame covered. Especially compelling are the artists interpretations or recreations of what various ancient civilizations would have looked like– their architecture, homes, monuments, cities, daily life, jewelry, food, family life, dwellings, occupations, etc. As just one instance, the ruins of Babylon and Ur, Athens and Rome hint at the incredible richness of those fabled cities. The artist’s recreations in this series are simply mind-numbing. This is as close as you can be to actually having been there. Equally noteworthy are the photographic collections of artifacts and relics attributed to the specific age, really exceptional. The entire series is truly a magnificent introduction to the history of the era. If you could have just one book(or series of books)

TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Myths of the Norsemen From the ... moreEddas and Sagas by H.A. Guerber. With 64 Illustrations. DESCRIPTION: Softcover: 396 pages. Publisher: Dover Publications; 1992) ISBN: 0486273482. From his exalted throne. During the early part of the thirteenth century. The“Eddas” were collected together, masterpieces of Norse mythology that included the tragic death of Balder; the comic ta
