This is a beautiful hand crafted arts& crafts aluminum charger. It measures approximately 14 ¼” in diameter and is signed“STENVALL” on the backside of the rim(see photos) This was a very labor intensive piece to produce. Made entirely by hand. The body was hammer raised from a thin piece of aluminum flat stock the surface decorated with a variety of hammers to produce the design you now see. This would have required much skill, a great deal of patience and a great deal of time with no major mistakes allowed. We have not yet been able to track down much information regarding“STENVALL” During our research we did locate an auction sale(Treadway) of expensive studio aluminum jewelry signed“John F. Stenvall” and dated c. 1940. We have been collecting various metal wares for over 30 years and have only seen two pieces during that time ... moremarked“STENVALL” and we bought them both. This particular charger we have owned for about 20 years. This piece is in good original condition. We don’t know exactly when it was created but we think it may be from the late 1930’s. The charger has four tiny pin holes which are not visible to the naked eye when exhibited. These were created by a hammer when the piece was being decorated when the individual hammer blow pierced the thin aluminum body of the charger. These are in no way deleterious and simply part of the process. The piece was probably used as a shallow bowl or tray sometime in its’ life as there is a light scruffiness to the interior surface. However. Overall this is a very nice vintage item with only normal age wear. It has been on a shelf alongside of our brass& copper arts& crafts chargers for years and displays very well. There has been modest debate within the household as to whether this handsome item is a charger. Tray or bowl. When it is on its’ back it appears to be a wavy lipped low bowl. However, when we compare it to our own copper chargers the form seems clear and declares it to be a small charger. The diameter is approx. 9 5/8” and weighs a little over 1 lb. It has a very nice overall evolving natural patina which is evenly distributed. The charger was hammer raised by someone with skill. The center of the charger is decorated with an acid cut relief design. It features an angel fish blowing bubbles as it swims through kelp. Etc. The charger is marked on the back. The mark is a dye struck letter“C” or a partially struck“O” We can’t tell for sure. Beneath this are the words“WROUGHT ART” and“HANDMADE” The piece exhibits normal use wear. Up for bid is a wonderful hand made stamp box. With hand carving. This was made in woodshop in school around the 1920's, in the arts& crafts style. The pictures do not do the box justice. It looks like the maker carved his name, Rander? but can't make it out. The box measures 3" x 2" x 1 1/2" H. The inside of the box has 2 slanted compartments, so there is ease with taking a stamp out of the box. This was in my grandfathers things, but I have no idea who made it. Description: Antique Arts and Crafts hand-wrought brass inkwell with blue glass inserts to hold the ink. This piece measures 6-3/8 inches long X 4-5/16 inches wide X 2-1/2 inches high. The well openings measure 1-1/4 inches across. The glass inserts measure 1-5/8 inches across X 1-3/8 inches top-to-bottom and the openings measure 7/8 inch across. The blue glass inserts are definitely old but we have no idea whether they are original to the piece or not. They were in the inkwell at the estate where we purchased them. One of the inkwells is in excellent condition; the other inkwell has two large rim pieces missing as you can see in the pictures but it can still hold its place. The covers to the inkwells close completely when the inserts are not inserted; when the inserts are in place the covers are slightly raised. We are pleased to offer this INCREDIBLE pair of OLD. Arts and Crafts Mission style and period, andirons. This pair is striking and features very detailed hand forged heavy iron. The patterning includes a hammered"notched" design which is random in direction and provides nice interest. The iron has nicely exaggerated and substantial curved legs with a 3 point leaf in between. The bodies are fluted and taper upward to the top finial design. The iron has been gilded. This gorgeous pair is in very good condition for the age(c1900) There is an aged patina as the gilded finish has dulled although it is still present in the light. The back side is a rusted patina. This a mold piece in the catalog reprint, quite often used as a blank where different artists would apply or etch designs into the vase, surprised there is not an artist mark, marked on base, very good cond with 3 minute flea bites on the high points of the leaves, looks a little like a grueby vase, 5 1/4" tall and 7 1/2" diameter! Hand thrown art pottery vase Ray West Arts & Crafts Mission Stickley studio vase
This is a beautiful art pottery vase by the highly-respected potter Ray West. Founder of Sequoia Pottery in northern California. He is retired now, and is not throwing anymore, so his work is quite scarrce on the market. This piece is part of his line of rabbit-fur glazes, and is subtle and complex at the same time. The vase stands 9 1/2"h and is 6" in diameter. It was purchased directly from the artist about six years ago. It is in perfect original condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs.
