The panel may have come from a cabinet or something and it shows two different Christian themed scenes. There is some Russian writing on the top and the panel dates back to the 16th or 17th Century. The piece has been in the previous owner’s family for the last 100 years at least and there was a little note that indicates they had it appraised and it dated to the 1500s-1600s. It measures about 8½" x 10½" and is in nice condition but it split at some point and was repaired and the paint touched up. Guaranteed as described! You are bidding on a Russian Religious Orthodox Christian Icon. It is enamel on board covered with elaborate silver that is bent over the edges. With corners folded and pinnedon the top and bottom. The pins that were on the sides have either long rusted away or were removed. It features a seated person with a child in her/his lap holding a tablet with Cyrillic writing on it. The center is open in the very elaborately designed and decorated silver to reveal the scene. There are some engravings on either side near the top that appear to be very worn or maybe even scratched out on the left side. I have tried to photo them clearly. It measures 3 1/4 inches by 3 7/8 inches and is marked on one end. It is in ... morevery good antique condition. The edges are a bit wavy and there is a good deal of tarnish. But no breaks or tears to the silver and no cracks or breaks to the wood. The marks do not seem to be the standard type. They look hand applied and to read Ce 4 3ch 3/4. I have no idea if they have significance. But there are no other markings. More than one view is provided to best show design. Construction and condition. This listing is for a very unique cased framed gilt liner boxed with glass early Russian icon in a church pediment shaped frame late 18thc or early 19thc or before. Everything looks to be in good shape the glass in the front of the box the putty holding the glass has went bad so the glass is loose. Highly ornate frame and very unusual box cased construction. It is 10 and 1/2 inches long and 8 inches wide and about 3 inches thick. Lots of photos this ca.E from a very high end estate the family traveled to Russia and brought back some neat items In the 1940-1950 era.
