Has had quite a bit of work, but the only thing that has been added& ... moreisn't original to this trunk are the leather handles. Everthing else is original to this particular trunk The trunk had 3 coats of paint that were removed from its exterior. Afterward it is was polished witha metal polish, there is still some patina, after 100 plus years it is almost impossible to remove all of that with just cloth and polish lol The paint was light green and off white. In certain places small remnants of the paint may remain. Without damaging the surface of the trunk it is very hard to totally get it all off. Also I think it adds to the already very rustic beautiful charm of the trunk. It is important to note the color variations you see in the pics on the metal ARE NOT paint. This is actually a pattern in the metal. One the end pieces I think it is patina and discoloration. But the middle piece on lower portion, and next to end pieces on top, I think it is the way the metal is made. It is very beautiful, and seems purposefully placed There is very gorgeous and unique hardware. There are little flower or star shaped medallions on top of trunk and on the front of trunk The wooden slats have been sanded stained and finished The handles were replaced with strips of 100% leather Interior of trunk was stripped of all inside paper. It has been left natural wood so new owner may leave as is. Or finish out to suit their needs best. One of the most unique things about this trunk is the locks on either end of trunk. And latch in center Normally one most I have seen. There will a latch on both ends, and a lock in center, this one is reversed! It is bright pink on the outside with pictures of Barbie and her friends on the front and back. This type of doll carrying case if perfect for the child who has more than one Barbie and wants to keep them all together. The inside is white textured vinyl and there are four stalls to place your Barbie and an area to hold accessories. Because it is a vintage item there are some miner signs of wear. Handsome Vintage Victorian Trunk - 2 inserts - monogram - like a Louis Vuitton
This trunk belonged to the great grandfather of the father-in-law of a friend. He died in the 1920's. But during his working life, he was a railroad conductor. The family story says that when luggage was unclaimed a certain time, train employees were allowed first claim on items. This trunk had been in the family since the early 1900's. My friend sold this to me because she's moving into a very small house after the death of her husband. She pointed out that the main padlock on the front has a patent date of 1892 and there is also#30 on the padlock, however, it doesn't match the other metalwork and the trunk's date would precede this latch. The owner said she was sure that this is Louis Vuitton because, she said, her husband had it appraised and the appraiser said it was worth $1,800, and that it was definitely Louis Vuitton, ... morewhich neither she nor her husband had heard of before.
