Oliver Messel famously worked on the reconstruction of the abbey interior from 1958-65. Famously referred to as the foremost& most sought after theatrical designer of the 20th Century. His artwork regularly sells in the thousands. This Mid 19th Century sofa formed part of the redesign by Messel. The work can be seen featured in the Country life magazine from 1972. The sofa is in like new condition in structure and strength. It belonged to my daughter who is now 19 years old and it was holding all of her childhood teddy bears and dolls. It was reupholstered by Marshall's of Lansing Illinois just before Mr. Marshall decided to retire. It was a costly but worthwhile investment. You are considering a vintage three foot industrial workbench. It is the perfect size to be a sofa table. Wall table, hall table workbench, small bar or a small kitchen island. I cut down two nine foot tables from a butcher in Ohio Amish country to make several tables. I sanded it, and applied several coats of Poly. To the original rough and rusty legs I added vintage iron casters so the table could be easily moved. I tried to take decent pictures so you can judge its condition for yourself. As with any vintage industrial piece it has dings, scratches, cracks, repairs, rust, faded paint, missing paint and old rough sawn marks. Vintage 1940s Art Deco three-person sofa couch davenport in green
This is a classic sofa and is completely intact. An expert has now informed me this is a very sophisticated Art Deco sofa. Thank you so much! It was last upholstered in the early 1950's. So I'm sure it dates to at least the 1940's. There are no rips or tears, but you'd probably want to redo it anyway. It's a very durable, nubby fabric, but it's really green(greener than the pictures make it look-a Christmas green-it's not even close to teal) It has not been used since about 1979 and was covered with a sheet. It measures 79" long by 39" at its deepest(floor space needed front to back) and 32" high. You will have to pick it up. There is an identical chair, but it's red and we have not uncovered it yet. Super rare California modern sofa purchased over 10 years ago from California Living in Los Angeles. I'm including a photo of the last similar sofa sold at Auction(Wright20 out of Chicago) which was sold 8 years ago- this design doesn't come up often! To my knowledge. Because this was indoor/outdoor design most of the sofa's were outside and eventually rusted out and discarded. While the upholstery was re-done over 10 years ago(in Sunbrella) the frame itself is original grayish-beige(taupe) powder coat and was most likely exclusively an indoor sofa since the 50's. The frame is in excellent condition. The upholstery is ok but sofa would look much nicer with new cushions. The daybed lifts on both sides with 2 height options on each of the sides. Herman Miller Eames 3 seat sofa with RARE TEAK frame and brown leather. This is a stunning example if not the best I have ever seen. I really love the quality and color of the original leather cushions that have been broken in and have that amazing patina you cant fake. This sofa came from an architect who's wife worked for Herman Miller and purchased this for his office in the early 1980's. The sofa was well cared for and the teak frame is immaculate. There is some minor scratches and a couple spots of soiling on cushions. A couple of the snaps on the cushions pulled away and need an upholsterer to reattach. Fabulous vintage carved roses framed open arm sofa finished in a brown bronze gilded finish ~ beautiful 2 inch roses adorn the entire frame including all across the back.
