We have since found out through an online appraisal company that ... moreis is an Antique Drop Front Writing Desk" from around 1900-1915. But it will really always be"Grandpa's writing desk" Unfortunately my seller is downsizing their home and grandpa's desk needs to find a new place to go. It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. You can see it in the photos. The interior is plain with no shelves, drawers or cubbies. The information that I received from the appraisal company is as follows: The drop front oak(not quarter-sawn oak) writing desk is a Mission style Arts and Crafts desk; there is a keyhole in the top of the fall front and a small gallery or backplate on the top back of the desk. There is an"H" stretcher in the middle bottom of the desk and a vertical"X" stretcher on each bottom side of the desk; the legs are quadrant legs; there is one drawer with round brass pulls beneath the fall front. I would date the desk C. 1900-1915; the value would be between $625.00 and $700.00 in today's retail market. Due to the size of this item it will not be available for shipping. This is a very nice Chippendale style mahogany secretary desk. The desk is complete and is in good condition with several cosmetic flaws but great structural integrity. This desk is complete with original"Genuine Mahogany" tag(photo#3) 2 paper Maddox tags and a metal Maddox shield(photo#9) The shield reads"Maddox Colonial Reproductions Jamestown, NY. The desk is complete with claw feet(photo#5) and beautiful top decoration(photo#4) There are four large drawers in the bottom part of the desk that work perfectly. The desk is quite beautiful when you put the slant top down into writing position. The writing surface is in nice condition but does have several scratches on it. There are five small drawers across the inside of the desk that are topped by 8 letter slots(4 on each side) an open center space with a door, and two hidden ... morevertical pillar drawers(photo#6) There is some damage around the knobs of the drawers and door, particular the center drawer and door, and something stuck inside one of the letter slots(see photo#7) The glass doors on the top of the desk are in very nice condition with the only visible flaw being some imperfection(retouching? in the finish at the center of the doors(photo#8) There are three shelves behind the glass doors. The top shelf has some paper stuck on three side of the back left corner(I do not know if it can be removed or what the finish looks like underneath it) and a circular scuff mark on the back in the center(photo#10) On the lower portion of both the right and left side there is some kind of residue or damage(photo#11) I do not know exactly what it is or if it can be repaired. Finally, the curved parts that stick out above the first large drawer have some damage from moving(photo#12) This desk was in the living room of my grandparent's house from the 1950's or 1960's until we recently sold the house and moved it up to New Jersey. ART DECO GOOSE NECK DESK LAMP. Not had one of these before. It's gorgeous, really got the deco look, lovely condition and working. Superb goose neck design. Polished steel/chrome and a heavy iron base with aluminium covering. Aluminium rotating head head with chrome ball joint fitting and push through bakelite switch. Original two strand twist flex. Neck is adjustable by loosening lever at the base(pic 8) giving some really great angles. Also rotates on base. A fab large vintage" Invisaflex" industrial desk light. Floor/ bench/ factory workshop task lamp, fully rewired and ready to use. The three arm light is articulated with three joints. A polished aluminium shade and has been fitted onto a disc brake to create a heavy and very stable base with felt underneath to prevent any scratched surfaces. 1950s or 1960s Wooden Branch Table Lamp Here we have for auction this unusual wooden lamp base. Made from a knobbly tree branch. At first, we thought it was made of an early plastic, but it appears to be a real branch, but painted/varnished to give it a protective coating. It has been fully rewired and fitted with a modern bayonet light fitting to conform to modern safety standards and would look fabulous on any table, with a period shade to set it off. It is quite lightweight, just under 650g, and extremely tactile and is in good condition, with a few small splits in the wood, but no damage. It would therefore be best kept away from radiators to prevent the wood from drying out and splitting. There was once a lock and key but this has long since disappeared and the blank keyhole is now plugged with a piece of wood. The hinges are solid and sound. The entire leg assembly. With the valance boards, has been removed, dismantled, cleaned and then reglued and rescrewed to make sure that the whole thing doesn't wobble resulting in a very stable and solid desk, all finished with an antique wax. It is an attractive and charming desk that has clearly had a long and hard life! It has the inevitable myriad of scars. Dents, dinks, holes, splits and so on, but nothing threatening and all very characterful, including a missing section from the far left hand side internal pidgeon hole, the obvious but not moving split on the front top and some iffy knots here and there and so on. Vintage Mid Century Atomic Industrial Swivelier Gooseneck Lamp Desk Lamp Light I often wish I could be a fly on the inside of the box and see where my items are going- as is the case with this one- it is such a cool style and I'd love to see where it's next home will be. What I have is a vintage Swivelier gooseneck table lamp. It has an iron base. And iron or steel neck and a shade that I'm guessing is aluminum, as a magnet does not stick to it and it's definitely lighter than the other metals. The neck does not adjust- it stays in the curve that you see, what adjusts is the shade on the end of the neck- it swivels to adjust to your needs- up or down. The lamp appears to have its original finish, which I'd describe as a bronzy-greyish-brown, and you can see that it still has its original Swivelier tag on the back of the ... morebase, as well as amazingly, the tag on the cord has survived too. It is in excellent solid, sturdy and working condition, as I am showing in my photos. There's minor small spots of wear to the finish on the shade where you can see the silver of the metal shining through- they are more seen on the very edge of the shade where the"cage" has rubbed on the edge. That cage, by the way, is removable, as you can see it is just held in place by curly-cues of the ends of the cage arms. There's minor surface rust in spots on the iron that can be seen- surface only and minor, and more so on the base, but there's isolated small spots on the neck as well as the top piece that attaches to the shade. I can find two very shallow small dings on the shade- one on the ribbed area so it's hard to see, and one below the ribbed area that is even harder to see- I have to feel for it to find it. The switch flips on and off well, and the cord and plug appear to be in great shape although as with any electrical item, I always recommend having it checked out by a professtional before using. Antique childs wooden desk and chair Vintage
This desk was my Dads. Then my Aunts and then passed back and forth between cousins and has been in storage for decades. It measures 33 1/2" X 14" X 21 1/2" and the chair is 26" tall. It is in great shape considering its age and has only normal wear with some crayon markings inside the drawer, the chair is more worn and has a sticker on the backrest. Vintage industrial oak wood/ metal 4 drawer desk with oak wood slatted chair. Desk top is 26" x 42" And is 30" high and 24" deep. Chair has great looking wood slats, with metal supports on both sides that adjust. Seat is 17" x 18" and is 18" Off the floor. Desk has large metal pulls and a metal bolt head on all drawer corners. Both pieces in nice condition. Desk top shows some wear around edges. Metal is structurally very good, has some minor nicks and scratches from normal use. There are no locks in top drawers.
