It was ... moremade circa 1850 to 1860. It features a walnut wooden carved backrest adorned with gothic finials. The needlepoint seat is original with the seat itself featuring springs and padding for comfort. As stated this is a petite chair with the top of the seat measuring 14 inches from the floor. The chair measures 21 inches long by 20 1/2 inches wide and is 38 1/2 inches tall. The wood on this chair is solid walnut and is well preserved and cared for. There are minor portions of surface cracking on what appears to have been some sort of a varnish applied to the front legs. This doesn't affect the wood or quality of the chair. As this chair is in the age range of 150 years old plus. These minor imperfections add to the authenticity of evidence of its true age. Additionally, there are a few tacks missing(about 4) from the seat area which can be viewed in the photos. Shipping: I will package this for shipment and ship via UPS. This authenticated antique desk and chair has hand carvings throughout the entire desk even including the back. There are 5 carved open compartments for organizing and a hidden drawer that opens the full length of the desk with 4 divided sections inside. The center disposal is the original period velvet sack with a hanging cord attached to a lovely ivory pearl stone set within a bronze circular ring with designs. A walnut wood weight is attached. Hand wood carvings include 2 beautiful ladies protruding from sides of desk and removable cupid on the top that is attached to the lid that covers the compartment where the clock sits. The clock has 3 different hand designs and incased in bronze. The face is a natural cream ivory? porcelain with black Roman numerals. The face is aged with some hairlines but the numerals are bold without any color loss. The clock has 2 front legs and a weighted bronze pendulum that you can view from the photo. It does move side to side and I hear ticking but is in need of adjusting. The clock is original and fits perfect to view from a circular opening made for it within the desk. This all original desk is in very good condition without repairs. It is hard to believe there are only two tips missing from the delicate finials. Located on left side underneath the desk and on the right side bottom between the legs. You will need to really search in the pictures because they are very hard to find. It is very rare to find a set. How fortunate to have this elaborate matching chair with velvet padded seat in such wonderful condition. The carvings are amazing and please view the lion and the Fiorentino symbol on the back of the chair. In my 30 years of experience I have never seen a desk set like this. Recently picked this item up at an auction. Keep in mind that a slipper chair is much smaller than a traditional chair and the seat is closer to the ground. The mahogany frame is elegantly carved. Legs appear to be intact, I see no cracks or repairs. The bottom of the front legs have a brass trim and the the metal piece that hold the wood wheel to easily facilitate moving the chair around. Beautiful upholstery on this piece as well. I did nothing to clean it. Leaving that to the next owner. All I did was wipe down the piece. The back of the chair has the button to give that great effect and then the flat seat. This 19th century chair features period incised carvings. Applied roundels, fancy plume carved crest on the back with an applied medallion of a resemblance of Shakespeare head, ring turned front legs with the original brass casters intact on the front feet. This chair measures 38 3/4 inches high from the floor to the top of the fancy carved back. Grapes and leaves motifs around the backrest with additional lovely carving on the arms and legs as well as it's original casters. This delightful Victorian era chair came through an old Charleston family estate sale so I can't be sure whether it is indeed American made or perhaps imported from somewhere in Europe earlier in it's journey. Incredible Victorian Gothic "North Wind" Chair with Carved Face all original!
Offered here is a unique and rare mid to late 19th century. Hand carved, North Wind" arm chair. The face, from folklore, was supposed to cast(literally, blow) evil spirits away. The piece is all original. The leather seat has a large tear in it revealing the original straw stuffing and there is a small tear in the backing leather as well as a repaired spot on one of the back legs. This chair needs to be restored and certainly has a tremendous amount of potential! I'm not sure what type of wood this is. It is extraordinarily heavy! Local pick up OR delivery within 75 miles is. The chair is the style with the hip huggers and i would estimate it is from the 1870's to 1890's. The chair is structurally sound and there are no cracks. Splits, chips or repairs. The upholstery i believe may be original but it is hard to tell. It does have some wear, especially on the seat and the upholstery on the back of the chair is torn and peeling away. Description Antique concierge desk and chair dating from the Victorian period. The desk is made from mahogany and is constructed with dovetail jointing throughout. It has two drawers on the inside with brass lion face ring pulls. On top is a writing slope with sections allocated for ink wells either side of a pen rest section. it is wonderfully simple in style with inlaid string wood banding along the front in the style of Eastlake with tapering legs. Measurements are 36" wide by 18" deep by 18" tall. The chair is made from a walnut which again is Eastlake in style with a woven sampler seat. Horn chair has 20 horns. It is 44" tall to top of horns and 28" at the widest point. One horn has part of the base missing and is loose.
