AMAZING LATE 1800'S ANTIQUE FLATTOP STEAMER TRUNK WITH ORIGINAL THE DRAWER INSIDE. DRAWER HAS TWO COMPARTMENTS. EACH MEASURING 16 X 17, 30 X 17 AS A TOTAL. I BELIEVE THE INTERIOR IS CEDAR. ALTHOUGH I AM NOT POSITIVE, BUT IT DEFINITELY SMELLS LIKE CEDAR. THE DRAWER IS SLIGHTLY CURVED TO ACCOMMODATE THE LID WHEN CLOSING. BOTH HANDLES. ORIGINALLY LEATHER, PROBABLY DRIED OUT AND BROKE OFF, BUT THAT SHOULD BE A PRETTY EASY FIX IF YOU ARE INCLINED TO FIX IT, SO I SHOWED THE HARDWARE IN THE PICTURES. 1920's chest// steamer trunk/ opens up to clean fresh dravers and mirror
This is my husbands Grandfathers"America" trunk. He owned it in the 1920's but it it probably older. It was made in Columbus, Ohio and has been cared for so it is in amazing shape, clean drawers with no odour at all, so it can actually be used as a chest of drawers, and it has the original mirror, with a secret compartment behind. All it needs for upkeep is wood oil, and even the wrought iron will shine up. It can be used as a sofa table, or as a side table, we put framed family photos on it. All hinges work smoothly, as do the drawers, please see photos. Closed up this chest measures 40" wide x 25 1/2" high x 22.5" deep, and when open it will be 45" high. Rare. Leather covered"Gold Rush" trunk with incised leather outer covering& large brass studs, about 1850. Beautifully crafted. This trunk comes with original key and superbly made lock which still locks. Original keychain has an engraved nameplate from the original owner in Portland. Connecticut. On the opposite side. There is a masonic symbol engraving, WSSTKSHT in a circle. Original wallpaper and leather secretary attache are in great condition for age. Has typical wear for age. As shown, both original handles are present and are all there and functional. Appears to have had some original strapping that is no longer there. Appears like all large brass studs are present except for one on top in back. Dimensions are approx 26" W x 16" H x 16" D. Measures 20.5" tall. 11.25" deep. 10.5" wide. 20.5" x 11.25" x 10.5" This is made of metal. And is white on the outside with what looks like stainless steel trim and edges. The inside is white with red stars, and includes 3 removeable drawers a red-framed mirror, a red ribbon tie, and a ceiling hook to hang clothes. All is present. What can I say about this? Shown is an awesome old steamer chest that has it's roots in Scotland. It even shows the passenger's name. A. Hanning, and destination on it. It shows normal wear for something this age. It measures 36" tall by 21" wide by 14 1/2" deep. I'm sure there is some very interesting history and stories behind this trunk. What a great conversation piece, and for antique decor in your home. Please see all photos. Because of it's weight, this item is for pick up only. Very Nice Fancy Refinished Belber Brand Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Manufacturer's Brass Tag, and Brass Working Lock With Key Here is a refinished signed Belber trunk from around the early 1900's. This one sure is fancy with lots of metal hardware all over it. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 35 inches. From floor to top is 14 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This trunk is made up of the original laminate from the factory. It is some type of pressed composition over some type of wood. We have given the laminated areas a nice dark reddish mahogany color and then polyurethane over the mahogany stain. The edge banding with all the nails in it appears to be also a type of composition and it is a brownish color which we have freshened up. ... moreThis beautiful flat top has the brass manufacturer's tag. It says, Belber Make" Philadephia, New York, Chicago" They must have had a few factories producing their trunks. This Belber trunk comes with the original brass working lock. We have semi polished the brass lock and matched up a key that does work properly in this lock. The remaining metal parts on this trunk are not brass and have been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. The front latches are also original and in good working condition since the springs are still intact. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with black leather straps. This lovely trunk originally had leather straps. They were missing, so we have run a pair of nice Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front, across the top, and down the back in the same location where the original ones were. These leather straps with roller buckles are functional and in addition to the lock and latches, they help secure the trunk's top to it's base when buckled. 1920's H.A. Kolb Steamer Trunk Suitcase
I did some research on H.A. Kolb Trunk and Case Company based out of St Louis. MO, and I could hardly find anything. They became incorporated on April 30th 1912. The trunk is stamped with"J.W. Edgerly& Co" and there is a sticker that says"Rock Island" on the middle of the front. Rock Island. Illinois I am assuming. This is some information I found on J.W. Edgerly& Co: In 1860 he accepted a situation in the drug store of the late Dr. J. L. Taylor. In 1865. He, and C. F. Blake were admitted to membership in the firm, under the name of Taylor, Blake& Co. He retired from the above firm in 1875, and, in partnership with Wm. Daggett, organized the firm of Daggett& Harper and built the Ottumwa Linseed Oil Mills. In 1885 Mr. Daggett retired from the firm, and was succeeded by J. W. Edgerly, and the firm name was ... morechanged to W. T. Harper& Co. In 1888 J. W. Edgerly, W. T. Harper and C. F. Harlan purchased the wholesale drug house of Blake, Bruce and Co. and have continued under the name of J. W. Edgerly& Co. up to the present time. I also found this in an obituary: She was married here and the family made their home in Ottumwa.Iowa while MR. BEDWELL was a member of the old wholesale drug firm, Black,Bruce& Co. of which J.W. Edgerly& Co is the successor. From her the BEDWELL family moved to Omaha where MR. BEDWELL, continued in the wholesale drug business. He died in 1919. The inside of the trunk is in great shape with an original sticker that states: H.A. Kolb trunk and case co. Successors to the Union Sample Case Co 1522 Olive St Louis. Ladycomet Refinished Victorian Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest, Straps&Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Interior Tray We are selling a nice refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. This trunk is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. This one has some typical older nicks and dings in various places. These character marks are present on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. There were some small holes in the wood where either knots were missing or something, and we did fill these holes in. There were several on the front and several on the back, ... morenot on the top or on the sides. These boards were free of any holes. This particular trunk doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood. Usually these trunks do, but this one is good. There is no lock mechanism, although there is a brass square lock plate at the front. The top part of the lock that swings down into the lock plate appears to be original, but there is no engagement mechanism behind this brass lock plate which someone may have put on this trunk some time ago. The lock plate is the only brass on this trunk. We have brush painted the remaining metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The front two latches are cast iron and they do work ok since the springs are still there. A nice pair of leather straps with roller buckles has been installed onto this trunk. In addition to the front latches, they help secure the top to it's base when buckled. They are functional, not just for show. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. Offering this great vintage/antique metal trunk ideal for rustic. Primitive decorating. It measures approx 33 1/2" by 14 5/8" by 16 1/2" Could be used as a coffee table as the top is flat. The top opens 3/4 to reveal a papered box tray that is removable. I don't have a key and the clasp does not sit tight against the lock as shown in the photos(I did not, however, attempt to adjust it) There are also some holes in the top along the hinge which I do not know whether or not they are original to the piece and the leather handles are broken and missing pieces. The Tenyo Maru was built in 1908 and was out of service by 1930(being scrapped in 1933) So this trunk is from the 1920s or earlier. Marked with the owner's name. George S. Weld, on both ends. In good condition with original inside lining. 13" high. 31" wide, 17" deep. Exterior in good overall condition. No till/tray. Missing one leather handles. Latches and lock in good condition. Antique. Steamer Trunk. We found it in the work shop at an estate sale. It was being used for storage of old boy scout memorabilia and old kitchen curtains. There are several pieces of stickers on the trunk and one from the Black Ball Freight Service with the phone number"BREMERTON 300" dates the sticker to the days before we dialed phone numbers directly. I would guess the trunk dates to around the turn of the century. It's made out of wood with metal brackets and rivets. Black laminate on the outside. Blue and white paper covering the inside. Measures 30 1/2" long by 18 wide by 19 1/4" tall on the outside. Inside dimensions are 29 1/2" long by 16 1/2" wide by 14 1/2" tall. The lid is 3 3/4" tall on the inside. It weighs 26 pounds. Beautiful Refinished Dome Top Steamer Antique Trunk w/ Tray, Lock & Key
Beautiful Refinished Antique Dome Top Trunk with Working Lock and key and original tray. This is a very nice. Clean refinished dome top steamer trunk from the late 1800's. To begin refinishing this particular trunk we took all the paper off from the inside. We then removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This gorgeous trunk is made up of pine wood with oak slats. Once we removed the metal we sanded all the wood and then applied polyurethane by Minwax. On this trunk are two new Amish black leather handles and two original latches to keep the lid secure. Also on the lid there is trunk stay to keep the lid open when wanted. We also attached a new lock with a working key. The fancy metal hardware on this trunk has also been repainted by hand in black and gold leaf. As in any trunk of this age ... morethere are a few signs of wear but that is to be expected. The interior of the trunk is very clean. Remarkably with this trunk there is the original tray in very nice condition. Dropping down to the bottom of the trunk we have also applied polyurethane to the bottom to give it a new refinished look. The bottom also has the original casters in working condition to ease with moving the trunk. The size of this trunk is perfect for its use as a hope chest to keep all your precious belongings in. This beautiful trunk would look very nice placed at the foot of a bed. It could also be used by a college student. It could also be used as a blanket chest. The size of this trunk measures 32"length x 18" width x 22"height. The two of us love refinishing trunks bringing back the beauty into a piece from the past. This trunk is no exception to the rule. Rare. Incised leather covered trunk with large brass studs, about 1850. Beautifully crafted. This trunk comes with original key and superbly made lock which still works. Original wallpaper and leather secretary attache are in great condition for age. Comes with original keychain with engraved nameplate of the original owner from Portland. Connecticut. On the opposite side. There is a masonic symbol engraving, WSSTKSHT in a circle. Has typical wear for age. As shown, both original handles are complete and functional. Chest probably had some original strapping that is no longer there. All original large brass studs are present except for one on top in back. Dimensions are approx 26" W x 16" H x 16" D.
