Rare Antique Louis Vuitton Trianon Gray Steamer Trunk 1880's
This trunk has been authenticated by the curator of the Louis Vuitton exhibition in Paris through emails. It's the real deal! This size is a rare half steamer. Measuring 13.5 inches high. 35.5 in wide, and 19.5 inches in depth. This trunk is about 130 years old, has traveled the oceans, and shows it's wear. It does have some condition issues. Please look at the pictures carefully. The inside is covered in the original blue/white striped ticking, and it has it's original removable tray, very rare to find the tray with the trunk! Also original label from the Paris Exhibition with the dates 1867, 1868. You can see half a serial number on the top of label. There is also a Louis Vuitton stamp on the bottom of trunk. A"W" is painted on both side ends. It is very very rare to find a gray, un-monogrammed trunk, This is a piece ... moreof history! The very first trunk Louis Vuitton made was the Trianon gray canvas steamer introduced in 1858. The trunks were made of waterproof-treated canvas with a wooden frame. Previously. Trunks of the day featured rounded tops to facilitate water run-off. Many other designers of the day imitated Louis Vuitton's Flat Topped Trianon Trunk, so in 1876 he changed the plain gray Trianon design to a striped pattern making it harder for his imitators to copy. Absolutely FANTASTIC and ONE OF A KIND Piece of Late 1800s European-American Culture. This AUTHENTIC IMMIGRANT TRUNK was brought to the USA by W H POPE. The thickly painted writing on top states: W H POPE PASSENGER TO MASSILLON OHIO USA. Northeast Ohio. Near Canton(south of Cleveland) Made of STEEL. With slightly corrugated sides, Oval Shaped, Hinged Lid. HAND MADE HASP holds the handle. And FRONT LATCH appears to be hand made, as well. And the single, LONG hinge at back. All 3 are very well done, but do not at all look like factory made pieces. Construction is STURDY. With Lapped edged on lid, Bottom and sides. Heavy enough to be STURDY and strong, but not too heavy to be unweildly. All hinges and clasps are secure and strong. Painted a dark bittersweet/mustardy-brown color. This auction is for a vintage steamer trunk. I think this is the right wording for them. This is black, hinged lid, leather strap handles on each end. Two clasp closures on the front, the main lock is missing the bottom as you can see in the photos. The inside is papered. This is worn and discolored, it is the original. There is a wooden bar on each side where the shelf would sit, but is no longer with the trunk. Measures right at 36" wide, 21.5" deep and 24" tall. It has weight to it! We are pleased to offer this very nice. BEAUTIFUL antique VICTORIAN steamer trunk. The chest has a domed top and is wood and metal construction. It features ornate iron hardware and trim and leather side handles. This wonderful trunk has an UNTOUCHED, ORIGINAL INTERIOR. The interior is lined in decoupage fashion. It has 4 compartments that are each defined with a different decoupaged portrait. They lift up(the top compartment lid lowers) for storage but they are not the"lift out" removable type of replacement trays. They are constructed of a heavy cardboard type material and have hooked closing mechanisms. The largest compartment is the lower compartment. It is accessible by lifting the sides of the center compartment. The trunk is very nice and is very much in original condition with very little restoration. The leather handles ... moremay have been replaced at some point as they have an aged patina but are in excellent condition. The trunk has the original locks but has no key. There are two clasp closures with locks on the front with a large center lock. There are 4 small wheels on the bottom of the trunk for easy transport. They are in good working condition. The trunk has no major dents or damage. There are a few minor dings but they are not very noticeable and they do not distract from the beauty of this chest. The interior is aged and is in untouched and unrestored condition. It is quite lovely with no major rips or tears to the decorative paper lining. The trunk measures 30" wide. My great grandfather, was the owner of this trunk, I don't know where he got it from, but he was very wealthy, and he owned, a huge mansion, up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, witch is very rare, as 99.9% of folks are poor up there, as there is nothing but trees, and water, he had left the estate to my grandfather, about 40 years ago my grandfather never went back to the estate, he let it become basically codemed or he let it go, and it became un-livable, when my grandfather died the estate went to me I didn't know about it so I went and checked out, and I found this trunk hidden between his closet, and a little trap door in what might have been my great grandfathers master bedroom. Antique ca.1890 Flat top Metal Covered Steamer Trunk
This is a ca.1890 antique flat top steamer trunk. It is steel-covered that has been painted black and floral embossed dark green and bound with oak slats. All of the steel hardwear including the brass lock and the latches are original. The leather handles have been replaced. The key is missing. It has fancy embossed slat clamps and two fingered edge clamps. The bottom has four roller wheels. It is 30"x 18.5"x 23"tall and weighs 45 lbs. The interior which is all original and has not been touched. Is fitted with a lidded tray, hat box and three lovely victorian prints. The only part that is missing is the lid for the right hand box. Beautiful Victorian Era Steamer Trunk. This trunk has been conserved or restored. Has had quite a bit of work, but the only thing that has been added& isn't original to this trunk are the leather handles. Everthing else is original to this particular trunk The trunk had 3 coats of paint that were removed from its exterior. Afterward it is was polished witha metal polish, there is still some patina, after 100 plus years it is almost impossible to remove all of that with just cloth and polish lol The paint was light green and off white. In certain places small remnants of the paint may remain. Without damaging the surface of the trunk it is very hard to totally get it all off. Also I think it adds to the already very rustic beautiful charm of the trunk. It is important to note the color variations you see in the pics on the metal ARE ... moreNOT paint. This is actually a pattern in the metal. One the end pieces I think it is patina and discoloration. But the middle piece on lower portion, and next to end pieces on top, I think it is the way the metal is made. It is very beautiful, and seems purposefully placed There is very gorgeous and unique hardware. There are little flower or star shaped medallions on top of trunk and on the front of trunk The wooden slats have been sanded stained and finished The handles were replaced with strips of 100% leather Interior of trunk was stripped of all inside paper. It has been left natural wood so new owner may leave as is. Or finish out to suit their needs best. One of the most unique things about this trunk is the locks on either end of trunk. And latch in center Normally one most I have seen. There will a latch on both ends, and a lock in center, this one is reversed! Large size 36 x 21 inches and 24 inches tall Great size for a coffee table. Tv stand, statement piece for any room, or as blanket chest or for storage very sturdy. Antique Green Gentleman's 1910 Wardrobe Steamer Trunk, Originated Kennett, Mo.
This is an antique gentleman's wardrobe steamer trunk. Circa 1910. The outer color is a very dark Forest Green. I found it in a Monrovia, California antique store about ten years ago- and it hs been stored ever since. I ws originally taken by the color. As a child we traveled with steamer trunks, but I have never seen one with an interior this shade of bright green. It is large and heavy. Measures 38 inches in height, 25 inches in width, and 22 inches in depth. It stands on end and is opened into two halves. The left side has a velvet cusion top with a fold out hanger design with the original 8 wooden hangers for the gentleman's suits, and trousers. There is a fabric"screen" that latches to hold the garments in place, but opens and swings out when access needed. There are four fabric shoe holders at the bottom that have ... morebrass snaps to secure the gentleman's shoes. The right side has three small drawers on top with five large drawers below them. The larger drawers have fabric belts used to secure the contents. There is a sort of hump on the top of the trunk to ensure that it is not stood upside down when in transit. The trunk has the owner's initials on the outside as well as his home town: T.E.L. Kennett, Mo. His name was actually Thomas Ely Lasswell. There are decals from Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. as well as the original Railway label indicating Mr. Lasswell's address in Kennett. I have looked everywhere I can think of, but have not been able to find the manufacturer's name on the trunk. It looks like a Hartmann, but I'm not sure. The lock does indicate that it was made in 1910 by Eagle Lock Co in Terryville, Conn. I find this a really interesting trunk and a bit of Americana- a young man traveling from Missouri to California in the early part of the 20th century. A very nice vintage Steamer Trunk made by Peerless from New York. The trunk is in good shape with some wear to the canvas outside. In addition one latch has been replaced and the key is missing for the lock. The trunk stands 40 inches tall and is 24 inches by 22 inches wide as well as weighing around 100 pounds. This trunk measures 15" long 9" wide and 9" tall.The outside of it is in very good condition.The inside will need a little work. A piece of wood that acts as a ledge for the tray is missing and the wood in the back of the trunk has a piece missing.Someone plastered the space and the plaster eventually fell out. Auto epoxy body filler would do the job to fill that void and a 1" x 1" strip of wood wood replace the ledge.

Up for auction is a vintage steamer truck/chest from a mansion in Scarsdale. New York. The family stated it was an ancestral trunk. It was wrapped in sheets in the attic. The outside looks good for its age. One of the leather handles is intact the other is broken but still on the trunk. The metal detailing throughout is stunning. The footing I’ve never seen. The latches say“patd 79” and the middle plate says. Patd May 54 and April 73. Hence, this is pre-1880. The inside is rough but it still has all the Victorian inserts! The inserts are in really tough shape, ripped, water damaged but it’s all there. The entire drawer/insert comes out. Size is approximately 32”X25”X14” It’s all original…I won’t even dust it. Refinished Double Lock Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Two Working Locks and Key Here is the first double lock refinished dome top trunk that we have had in a very long time. This trunk dates back to the late 1800's. Here are the dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 20 1/2 inches. This large dome top is made up of pine base wood, ash or oak outer slat boards, and the dome is made up of early ply. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane. This one has a lot of distress marks which include areas on the wood that are darker in color, probably due to moisture in various places on this trunk. Also there are stress cracks running across the top wood that makes up the dome. There are typical nicks and dings in various ... moreplaces. This particular trunk was a little more weathered when we received it than most of the trunks we refinish. So we did make it as nice as we could, but do want to mention some of the characteristics. This one comes with the two factory original working locks. We have matched up a key that does work in each of the locks. You can lock your personal belongings away from others if you want to. The metal parts making up this trunk are not brass, so we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The side handles have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps and the handle caps have an embossed star on them. You could store a lot of belongings inside this trunk since it is pretty large. It may look nice at the foot of the bed in the bedroom or anywhere in your house where storage space is needed. If you are one who enjoys collecting rustic more primitive style antiques, then this one might be just the right one for you since it is more rustic than most trunks that we refinish. Antique Steamer Trunk With Eagle Lock Canvas and Wood Nice Condition
I am selling a really nice antique steamer trunk. This piece is in really nice condition. The interior panels are all solid, no rotting. The hinges are tight, when you close the lid it matches up perfectly at the latches and lock. The original handles were missing so I attached handles on it to make it easy to move but they are not in the original posistion as shown in pics. Some of the corner metal pieces are dented, other ones are perfect. The lock is an Eagle Lock brand lock, I dont know if it locks because I dont have the key so I wont completely close the lock. The trunk is 35 inches long, 21 inches deep and 13 inches tall. If you have any questions please ask and I'll be glad to help.

The upper part of one latch is missing the original rivets and is held on with modern screws. Two of the leather strap loops on the top are torn and don't hold the strap in place.
