Matching Vintage Black Flip Top Secretary Desk & 1964 Nichols & Stone Chair
Last photo is 1964 original catalog ad as provided by Nichols& Stone. Chair by itself worth $100+ Desk: The top folds down to reveal an interior with 3 drawers with two sets of small knobs each. Above the drawers are 4 cubby shelves. One knob is missing. The exterior of the flip top has the lock face plate missing. The keys are missing and are of the hollow tip skeleton type of cabinet key. The flip top is also damaged around the locking mechanism and slightly by the upper right side corner. It's as if the keys were lost and the top was eventually forced open. Damage to the lock on the flip top is unknown. Outside of the damage sustained from prying the top open. There seems to be only normal wear for a piece that had been used. The desk itself appears to be made of maple and poplar. Maple for the main body and poplar for the interior ... moreshelves and drawers, the lower drawer, and the desk back. Unsure if legs were turned on poplar or maple but poplar is assumed. There is a slight wobble possibly due to wear on the bottom of the legs. There isn't any type of foot hardware that seem to be missing. The locking mechanisms on both the flip top and the lower drawer use the same type of key and both are inlaid between the front and false front of the top and drawer. Antique Women's Secretary Desk. This is in original condition. Belonged to my great-aunt. I am not sure of the age, but believe it to be from the early 1900's. The height of the desk is 50" from bottom to top of desk, 25 1/2" from side to side& 15 3/4" from front to back. It is solid wood with burled front arches on the top front of the door( see pictures) The doors open with small pulls& the desk automatically comes down. Inside has lots of open storage slots& a small pull out drawer. Carved wooden legs and carving around top& bottom of the desk. I have enclosed LOTs of pictures so that you can see exactly what you will be purchasing. The back dustcover was torn& removed as you will see from the back view pictures. It's very solid& quite attractive despite is custom huumm paint job. It looks like pretty OAK underneath. Just needs some elbow grease to bring it back out. It needs work but it's not all hammered up, doesn't look like it's been abused(except for paint) I have no keys to it, unknown if locks work properly. There are a few scratches, the worst being on the top of desk where the bookshelf sits, see last pic. It is missing the finial on the top center. There are 7 original handle pulls, the bottom 2 are missing the bale. There is one that doesn't match. LATE 1700'S ANTIQUE OAK MAHOGANY SLANT FALL DROP FRONT DESK BUREAU SECRETARY
Here is a fantastic original Georgian circa late 1700's English solid oak desk with gorgeous figured mahogany. The mahogany would have probably been added at a later date such as the early 1800's when figured mahogany veneer became more popular and more readily available. The pigeon hole interior has a unique look and design with lots of extra added details as well as a well interior below the writing surface which simply slides open. The interior is solid oak.some beautiful quartersawn and this slant front will lock with a replaced lock and key. Hinges are heavy iron and original. The top drawer is a false drawer and then the 2 over 3 drawers are all graduated. All of the drawers inside and out are hand dovetailed as shown. The hardware is a later addition.possibly and most probably changed if and when the figured mahogany veneer ... morewas added in the very early 1800's. The desk is supported by a bracket foot base. EARLY ANTIQUE AMERICAN NANTUCKET CHERRY FEDERAL LADIES SECRETARY DESK WITH TAMBOR DOORS Size: 43" wide x 51.75" high and 21.25" deep. A larger size than most of the period. This piece was attributed to Nantucket circa 1800-1810 by an appraiser in 1971. A handsome well made piece of furniture with an inlaid door of flowers and vines. Reeded pilasters on each side on nicely tapered square legs. Shows shrinkage cracks and the tambor door slides stick at times even though that had been repaired. Plenty of drawer space for a piece this size. No joke here. Nice early form that is extremely well made. Nicks and wear mostly due to 200 years of use. This is a lovely cherry piece with the satinwood inlaid medallions. Highly decorative interior with dividers and drawers. Sits on a bold bracket dovetailed base. Old inventory numbers indicate that the piece was exhibited in a museum at some point. The crown shows old repair as does the molding on the desk lid. The pulls are old replacements. This is a Victorian burl walnut butler’s secretary desk. Purchased from a local estate, this gorgeous solid black ... morewalnut butler’s bookcase desk is in original condition. All we did was polish it up, and some minor wear shows here and there in the finish, but it adds charm and character. We did replace the felt on the desk because it was in rough condition. This is called a butler’s desk because back in the old days, the butler was an important person in the household. He took care of the house, paid bills, and did all the food shopping. He would get the groceries, and he would make the list on this desk. It was also used as a dish cupboard in the dining room. This one has lots of burl on it, lots of rosettes, burl trim all over, and racetrack moldings on the doors, which retain their original brass hardware. The beautiful solid black walnut case has a carved crest on top, which is normally missing on these pieces. There is truly burl all over this piece: on the top, the face of the bookcase/china closet, rosettes and buttons. The handles and burl walnut on the drop down lid are unbelievable. This desk has the original curved. Rounded glass on the left side, which makes it really beautiful and elegant. There are shelves behind the glass to hold books and miscellaneous. The right side has a pull-down writing platform. And some cubby holes for envelopes, index cards, etc. and a small drawer for pencils, stamps, etc. Desk has all original hardware. The top has a beveled mirror and a shelf for decorative or practical items. The shelves to the left could be taken out and used as a gun case, but I've never used it for that, and you would have to put in your own lock and key. This is for pick-up only.
