Morgan.The idea of a railroad that in time was to become the beginning of what become the Rock Island System. First came under discussion in June, 1845, at a meeting of civic leaders at Rock Island, Illinois. The historic island, from which the Illinois town took its name had been the site of Fort Armstrong, an army installation built in 1816. The military had abandoned the site in 1836 and one of the prominent settlers on the island was Colonel George Davenport. In 1845, it was at the home of the Colonel that the leaders discussed the link from Rock Island to LaSalle, ... moreIllinois which was visualized as speeding up the traffic from Mississippi River to the Illinois River so that the rapidly growing city of Chicago could ship its goods to boats in LaSalle for a river ride to St. Louis and other points south. Description BEAUTIFUL FRENCH"LOUIS XV STYLE" BLACK LACQUER WRITING DESK W/ MATCHING CHAIR Up for auction is a vintage French style desk and chair manufactured by Drexel. It is in excellent vintage condition and truly stunning. We removed all of the brass mounts from the legs and drawer pulls. They were all hand polished/cleaned removing years of tarnish and oxidation. We then sprayed them with a clear lacquer topcoat so they will maintain their lustre for years to come. The desk and chair were given a light restoration and cleaning. They were then both hand rubbed/polished with 2 coats of clear paste wax. We gave the chair's upholstery seat a cleaning with a professional hot steam extractor machine. The leather top is in excellent condition- no rips. This set is from the early 1900's. It was purchased by the current owner in the early 1960's. There is a picture. Which will be included of the original owner) The furniture pieces are a breakfront. Which is dust proof that stands 80" tall(6' 8" It is 54" long and 13" by 11 1/2" on the top and the bottom measures 14 1/2" by 11 1/2" As you can see by the pictures. The first drawer doubles as a writing desk that can be locked. Although there are no keys available. The drawers are dovetailed. The drawer pulls are brass with a fruit theme. The owner said that just a bit of lemon oil helps them darken up. The glass on the doors is laid into the wood cut outs. This item weighes about 300 pounds per the owner. This is a Drexel Parallel line walnut coffee table BASE ONLY(the table top is shown for reference regarding the manufacturer but is not being sold and is not included) The table is dated 5/61. The base legs and mounting plates will be care fully removed from the table top(the table top is just too expensive to ship and I have had interest in just the legs) It was likely designed by Kipp Stewart or Barney Flagg. Measures 14.25" tall and 33" corner to corner of the legs. Very good overall condition with some wear and minor scratches. No breaks or cracks but one leg has fairly deep gouges on both sides near the bottom of the leg(see closeup) It has not been repaired and is being sold as is. Thank you!

Offering up another very rare advertising Zippo lighter for bids here. This one is from Drexel Dynamics Corp. They manufactured very specialized forklifts that featured side loading via a swinging mast arrangement. They were expensive. High tech. pieces of equipment. This lighter is date coded 1966. Looks like it was only lit once or twice. There is no soot, and the wick is barely discolored. It does have a new flint, and sparks perfecly. Featured are a pair of unique and authentic Drexel accent chairs. They are from the“Esperanto” furniture line which was advertised in the November 1965 issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine-I am including this nostalgic ad as a fun conversation piece to accompany the chairs. The chairs are made from heavy solid wood accented with red thick upholstery vinyl padded backrests. Seat and wrapped armrests. The X legs are very Hollywood Regency and feature decorative rosette medallions(all are intact) In very nice vintage condition with no major flaws or scratches. Vintage Drexel "Profile" Series Dining Table w/3 Leaves, 6 chairs, in California
This vintage Drexel set is from the"Profile" series from 1955. This furniture collection was designed by John Van Koert and was in production from 1955 to 1961. The set includes the dining room table which is 62" long x 40" wide x 29" high plus three leaves that are each 12" There are six armless chairs. The underside of the table is stamped with the Profile Series identifying information. The chairs are in need of re-upholstering. Not so much stained as worn. The table has one area that shows a bit of wear. All pieces have the original finish. This is from my neighbor who is moving to assisted living. This set is truly a classic. For Sale: My Drexel Heritage Breakfront. Et Cetera line, model 582-536. It dates from the 1980s, and is in wonderful condition. It is richly decorated with handpainted gilt birds and floral elements in a cohesive Asian style. This hutch is 80" high. By 55" wide and 15" deep. The unit has two components: a top half with bays with glass fronts and sides. It has one central glass bay of 25" by 10" and two of 12" by 8" Each bay comes with three glass adjustable shelves. The lower half is of decorated wood in three bay each with one adjustable wooden shelf. This is a striking classic reproduction that blends into a variety of decorating environments.
