Beautiful Box. Silver it is heavy, not sure if it is silver or silver overlaid. It is French. Christie's when it sold Elizabeth Taylor's belongings after her death, sold this piece along with a similar piece with it for $1300.00. Hers was exactly like the one I have that belonged to my Mother. I have a copy of the item when it was sold at Christie's. It is a real Statement piece. it is 91/4 inches long and 3 1/2 inched wide. This is a superb large box in the form of a dressing table complete with a mirror stand on frame to the back with a large round mirror to the centre and oval mirrors to each side. The mirrors are hinged and the can be angled. The dressing table has a gently curved back and rounded sides with an inset centre(where a chair would be) The dressing table top is chased with wood effect lines. The table has straight sides and stands on four legs with ball feet. The lid of the dresser is hinged and it opens to reveal the red velvet lined interior with three slots for rings. The dresser is large and heavy. It is 6-5/8 inches/ 166 mm wide and 3 inches/ 76 mm deep. Antique Sikes Chair company Vanity Dressing Table Stool Bench
I just conditioned the wood before taking photos so it looks shinier than it really is since it was still soaking up the conditioner. I believe this is an all original antique bench or foot stool made by Sikes Chair company. I think the wood is Mahogany and I believe the leather to be the original seat cover but I'm no expert. I found very little info on this. In fact I found no info on the piece it's self. The limited info I did find was on the history of Sikes Chair company. The short version of what I know is that in 1916 Sikes chair company resumed business in Buffalo. NY. Then went out of business in 1919. Only to buy Cutler Desk Company and operated under the Sikes Cutler Desk Corp until going bankrupt in 1929. The Sikes Company resumed production in 1933 and continued to produce furniture until 1956. there more history in between ... morethe times listed where the company moved locations and operated under different names. However, based on the above info I'd date this bench/ stool either 1916-1919 or 1933-1956. Anyway you look at it this is wonderful and unique piece of American history. There are five items in total- 2 x lidded trinket pots. 1 x ring holder in the shape of a hand, 1 x slightly larger lidded pot and 1 x pot for pins/ cotton wool? All pieces are in really good condition overall, no signs of chips cracks or restoration. There is some very slight rubbing here and there but certainly nothing which detracts from the overall look. They each have a square shape and have been decorated with floral sprigs and motifs. The lids are particularly interesting and feature two small hand painted areas- one has a lovely array of flowers. And the other a lovely landscape scene. The colours still look bright and the detailing is superb. It really adds a quality look to the set. Each lid features the same. Vintage Dressing Table Top Vanity Glass Mirror Murano ITALY 10"
This is a Vintage Italian Venetian Murana Glass Mirror.If you look carefully you will air bubbles in the scrolls. This mirror is made of thick glass. 10" tall x 9" wide. The wood is 1/2" thick. One Rosette is missing. Upper left hand side. I have added faceted glass and flat beads to blend in. See picture#4. It blends in and it looks very nice.It's a free standing mirror or can be hung on the wall. Has a hook on the back. The mirror has scrolls of clear Murano glass with glass beads and 3 large glass textured rosettes. Mounted on 1/2" thick wood with a easel back stand. Glass is clear. No paint loss.Glass is not cracked. Chipped or broken. The white spot on the back is a partial label. This is the last time I am giving a discount on this item. It is a nice Mirror.
