You are bidding on a handsome china cabinet designed by Gilbert Rohde. As described in the Herman Miller company catalog of 1940. The No. 4190 china cabinet was part of the"Paldao" line, named after the Philippine wood known for its strong color contrasts. The curved cabinet door faces were covered in Acacia Burl, accented with the rare brass handles. Most of the handles were produced in wood, as there were wartime metal shortages. The brass versions were the earliest to be produced, or available after the war by a coupon redemption. Oozing sophistication and charm, this credenza is the absolute epitome of Victorian high society. The entire piece highlights the unique and truly exceptional pattern of the burr walnut grain. It has elegant glazed bow end doors on either side. It has a panelled door in the centre with a beautiful hand painted Sevres porcelain plaque which depicts a beautiful pair of cherubs. It has wonderful kingwood crossbanding and boxwood inlaid decoration. There are fabulous ormolu mounts and an elegant pair of burr walnut half columns flank the central door. It opens to reveal a shelf and plenty of storage space for drinks. It is actually 2 pieces, top and bottom. The top has beautiful chicken wire grills on the doors(locking) There are movable shelves inside, one side of every shelf having grooves for which to display china, etc. The bottom half of this piece has a center pull our desk which is lined in leather. The side doors open to reveal shelves on one side and drawers on the other. Could use some mahogany touch up stain in places. Area of the fancy trim is missing a small piece on the right side. Broyhill Premier Series Buffet Very nice Broyhill Premier Series Buffet. This buffet has a nice finish and the doors and drawers work well. It is very sturdy. It has a ding on the top left that has been repaired. There three noticeable scratches on the top that I show in the photos. There is also a scratch on the front top ridge you will see in the photos. Otherwise light wear around the bottom of legs and inconspicuous wear to be expected with its age. The buffet looks great and from two feet the only damage that draws the eye is the scratch in front. Secondly the damaged area on the top left if you are looking it over. The scratches need inspection to notice, they blend in well. 52 1/2" wide or long. 19" deep. 31" tall.
