DESCRIPTION: Bidding is for an antique. Late 1800s, Walnut Burl Credenza/China Display Cabinet with serpentine base and top, beautiful hand carved trim and dome-shaped fruit-carved mirror. The glass cabinets have been lined with red velvet by previous owner. The velvet is only tacked in and can be easily removed. All three doors lock with the same key. Glass is original and without cracks or chips. The left side door trim is chipped at the tip top of the fleur de lis(see photo) but this was done very long ago, as the wood has a patina from being exposed for so long. The serpentine top is original but previous owner refinished it(see photo) There are several minor nicks and scratches as viewed in the photos. DoMore which was purchased by Steelcase employed some of the greatest designers to have ever worked. Such as Jens Risom, Bill Stephens& Davis Allen who was within Knoll at the time they released their famed office credenzas. Davis Allen is considered one of the greatest industrial designers of the period. He performed a number of designs also for Stow Davis along very similar lines as this ... moremodel. This design and a series of them were done upon the behest of a company in Kentucky that made a very large order with them. The quality of this credenza is second to none. Besides having a substantial weight associated with it due to the use of very hard woods and the use of solid block lumber. The credenza features superior construction in the draw mechanics and pulls ensuring this credenza will last as long as any other made. Steel inserts give the lines a very modern look and feel. The lock on the side locks all cabinets but we do not have the key. The drawers are spotless. The wood is in premium condition with so few marks upon it that we consider did not need addressing. The very beautiful flame mahogany used on this bowed front sideboard was stained a unique. Light color. This lighter color allows the beauty of the grain of the wood to really pop out! Subtle brass handles, splayed feet, and a shaped skirt also add to unique look and feel of this buffet. The top is cross banded in mahogany which helps to draw attention to the bowed shape. Functionally this piece utilizes its space very well. The two large cabinet doors lock with included keys and house removable wooden shelves(1 in the left door and 2 in the right) All four drawers open and close very smoothly on their wooden runners. The top drawer is fitted inside and lined with felt. Its original purpose was to store silverware but could be used for a variety of purposes today. There are two minor cosmetic issues to point out that keep this piece from being in perfect condition. There is a small age separation on the skirt at the bottom. Also. Drexel Sideboard Credenza Hutch Kipp Stewart McDougall Eames era Dining MCM
Up for auction is the nicest example of Drexel Declaration Buffet/Hutch I've seen. It has the original sales floor tag. And product literature. It's a beautiful piece. I have the matching table and chairs in another auction- check it out. All pieces have the same date code, and were manufactured at the same time for the same customer. This auction is for the pieces you see pictured here. They include the sideboard and four door glass hutch with all associated shelves, hardware, and literature. The wood is american walnut, and its a stunner in person. The sideboard could be used alone. It's very nice. It has built in lighting in the left and right door sections. A mechanism activates the light when the doors are opened. It takes a standard sized(edison) bulb. There are plugs for these lights on the back of the piece(see pics) The ... moreright door section has dividers for serving trays. Etc. The drawers are quality dovetail jointed. The top drawer has dividers for knives, forks, etc. This piece can house a lot of tableware. There is a notable scratch on the top(see pic) It can be covered by shifting the hutch portion to the left creating a modern asymmetric look. It did;t really bother us much, so we kept the hutch in the middle(as shown) The upper hutch section is a beauty. It has four solid walnut framed glass doors. And houses a set of four white"milk glass" shelves. The shelves are height adjustable. The hutch has built-in lighting, too. A few small fluorescent bulbs can be turned on/off manually with a switch on the cord. This is all original. We housed a complete set of Fransican Atomic Starburst dinnerware, and with the lights turned on a night, it was a show stopper! The condition of the upper hutch is excellent. The original literature is included and consists of everything you see in the pics below. It has the actual"hang tags" that once hung from the knobs on the showcase floor.
