The bookcase stands 70 inches ... moretall, is 63 inches long and 17 inches deep. It has a wonderful Victorian carving of a cupid head surrounded by a large array of acanthus leaf carving over the center door. There are four large claw feet on the front of the bookcase. It has its original wavy glass in all 3 doors. There are twelve adjustable shelves. The hardware is solid brass original to the piece. I have fully restored and refinished this bookcase inside and outside so it is in excellent condition. This is a quality piece of furniture but I do not know who made it. This is a large piece of furniture that must be shipped by a blanket wrap shipper at the buyers expense.

This lovely pair are the perfect mix of decorative beauty and practical functionality to make for a vintage design classic. They look great in any room and they are able to store lots of items. Ostensibly they are bookcases but of course you can use them to hold other items. They look particuarly good with decorative items- statues, vases etc- in them. However, for myself, being the bookish type I have a pair in my home with nothing but lovely, fading works of literature in them. The shelves are adjustable to suit meaty tomes or smaller paperbacks. The shelves work on a slat system so you can adjust them to whatever height you like for whatever you like. From\War and Peace\ to the\World\s Smallest Book of Poetry\ these bookcases are perfect. The open fronts are Sheraton style. Main body is walnut polished to a high sheen with solid shelves The inlay is made from various fruitwoods- satinwood. Rosewood, applewood- to create a beautiful affect. The fruitwoods are softer hence there use as inlay within the harder mahogany. The level of the craftmanship on these is absolutely superb, both strucurally in that they are very solid, and also with the intricacy of the inlay. The close up pictures of the inlay work hopefully illustrates the level of craftmanship with patterns of scrolling branches. Urns and flower motifs. They would be the highlight of any room and due to their solid construction will last for many generations more. They are in perfect conditon structurally and they have just come back from the restorers where they were repolished so they are ready for home use straight away. The bookcase top is graced with a beautiful crown moulding accented with lovely burl-clad scalloped moulding. Three raised horizontal burl panels are found beneath the crown moulding and additional vertical burl accents are found on the sides of the glass doors which are adorned ... morewith picture frame moulding. Elegant incised fan carvings accent the outside corners of these glass doors. There is an intact lock on the glass doors and a decorative(non-working) key is included to assist in opening the doors. Original Antique 1753 Chippendale Engraving Plans & Specs Desk & Bookcase LXXVII
Description As described in the title and shown on the 10 photos and 2 scans(most accurate as to color and texture) This is an original engraving from a rather large volume that Thomas Chippendale published in 1754. We have no idea how many editions or printings were created from these rather well known plates. It was last matted and framed in the 1970's but the frame was damaged and we tossed it. We tested the mat and back and they are both acid neutral. The back is in good condition with the impressions of framing nails around the edges as would be expected. The mat is bright and clean without aging or damage so we are sending the print still mounted with two framer's strips on the back and the mat loose. The mat measures about 19 3/8" x 24 3/8" with an opening approx. 9 1/2" x 14 1/2" which shows and frames ... morethe plate impression. The print is on laid paper as it should be and is generally bright and clean with some ink fading and spotting. Outer area foxing or toning, several tiny pin holes and other expected wrinkles and marks. The bottom portion shows the remnants of binding and is bumped and injured as shown in the photos below. However, once the print is matted and framed, it presents quite nicely. The paper measures approx. 11" x 18" and the plate impression measures approx. 8 5/8" x 13 7/8" The upper right corner is stamped"LXXVII. and the name of furniture piece is"Desk& Bookcase. The bottom is marked"T. Chippendale inv. et del. Pub. according to act of Parliam. 1753. and"T. Muller sculp. There are many small numbers and marks that are in the engraving of the desk and bookcase- don't know if these are specs. or refer to plans. Please note that it was difficult for the camera to produce accurate colors and textures of the mat and print but we were able to scan small portions of both. The bookcase is masterfully crafted in flame mahogany. With secretaire drawer, classical 13 pane astragal glazing and adjustable shelves. The bookcase is beautifully crossbanded in satinwood and the flame mahogany is a wonderful colour. It retains all it's original shelves. Locks, keys and handles and has been well looked after. The beautiful astragal glazing is in perfect condition and the secretaire drawer retains it's original tooled and embossed leather writing surface. When the wheel was replaced by a steam engine, with the ground grain being used as feed for the horses at the nearby Croft Quarry. When those horses were replaced by mechanised vehicles in the 1950s, the mill finally closed. The mill lay redundant for almost half a century, before its loving restoration and conversion in 2004 into what is a fabulous residential property. This is a magnificent solid oak 3 piece executive office set. The desk has 6 drawers in front and 3 slide out writing or work areas. One on each side and one on the back. The desktop is 36" wide by 72" in length. The surfaces on all 3 pieces are unmarred of any major damage. The credenza does have a wear mark on one corner that looks like it was rubbed against something. The mark is about an inch long. I didn't want to restain it as someone else may want to restore it differently. The credenza has 4 doors that click open for access to shelves. The book case is all oak also with wire mesh incorporated in the doors. All the hinges and drawers work smoothly and perfectly like new. The drawers are high quality ball bearing like you would expect from Alex Stewart Design. Folks, We have had many Danner Revolving Bookcases over the years. But this treasure appears to be one of the earliest made, 1870's-1880's. This solid tiger oak piece is signed with the stenciled"Danner Trade Mark" AND.under the bottom section there is a partial. But legible oval paper label that reads"Paine Furniture Company" The Paine Furniture Company wasw founded in Boston in 1835! They were a manufacturer. But by 1872 they also retailed other fine furniture from other companies(Danner was one) This bookcase has large and very fancy hobnails that I've only seen once before.possibly a special order from the Paine Company. Overall dimensions are 18 1/2" x 18 1/2" by 45" high. Each of the twelve bookcase sections measure 9 1/2" wide. 7 1/2" deep and 11 3/4" high. With the push ... moreof a finger.
