Made in England, Circa 1960, Mahogany, All doors lock with key, Dovetailed drawers, Adjustable upper shelves, Satinwood string inlay, Minor wear to step back and feet, Sturdy. Good overall condition, This four door mahogany breakfront bookcase comes from England. The mahogany is accented with subtle satinwood string inlays on the lower doors and drawers. The astragal glazed doors at the top all lock. And each section of glass is an individual pane. This combined with the dovetailed drawers shows the high level of quality that went into the creation of this lovely bookcase. Originally made around 1960, the bookcase remains in very good condition today with minor wear around the feet and step back where the lower cabinet meets the upper cabinet. The wooden shelves in the upper cabinet are adjustable with a brass pigeon hole system. The entire bookcase comes apart into two pieces(top and bottom) to make it easier to move. The shelf depth in the upper cabinet is 10.75" Each drawer has a brass swan neck drop pull and opens and closes very easily. Finally, the top is finished off with a dentil moulded cornice. This wonderful bookcase is very sturdy and would make a beautiful addition to any home or office! As you can see there is a large amount of storage and display space. The shelves are adjusted with a brass pigeon hole system. The lower cabinet doors display a gorgeous flame mahogany grain. These are the pulls on the drawers. Each drawer is also constructed with dovetailed joints. A sign of quality craftsmanship. This close up of the step back shows some of the minor wear you will find in that area. WE were lucky enough to find one with the original 20 volumes complete set at a recent estate sale. It had been in the same family since 1931! This auction is for the bookcase only, we are are listing the 20 volume set on a separate auction tonight. The bookcase is made of solid walnut and measures 8 3/4" wide, 16 1/2" long and 28" tall. All glass looks to be original, there are 5 shelves and the base shelf, all are permanent, not adjustable, the corner crown molding is a little loose and needs to be nailed back on, there are some blemishes and a few scratches but over all is very good, measures 81 3/8 inches tall and 41 1/2 inches wide at the crown and 38 inches wide at the cabinet and 10 inches deep. Antique Oak Macey 8" Barrister Bookcase Section w/ Leaded Glass
Up for sale is an antique Macey Bookcase section from Circa 1910. It has leaded glass and is all original. The dimentions are 11" tall(roughly 8.5" inches for interior book room) 33.5" wide, and 11.5" Deep. Similar to a Globe Wernicke D-8 section, but not quite compatible if stacked with a Globe Wernicke due to a slight difference in how the top of the doors are made. The"Macey" stenciling exists inside of the bookcase, along with"98. Condition: All original. In very good condition. Original finish and glass. The finish is slightly alligatored, but the quarter-sawn oak still shines through nicely. The leaded glass has a crack on one of the larger panes, as well as one of the small triangels. There's a couple spots of flaking to the leadwork(see picks, lighter spots. There is a section of green paint ... moreon the back of the bookcase and the very back of the copper band where it folds around the back. That's it- all mechanisms original and work nicely. Shipping: No wrapping charge as I have the packing materials. I will remove the door and wrap that between two pieces of styrofoam to prevent the glass from bending inward during transit(old leadwork not reinforced and protected during transit is bad) Shipping will be via FedEx ground to the lower 48 USA only. From our research and the patent stamped on the case- Patent#746758 this is a 1903 cabinet from The cabinet it's self is 3 pieces Overall size is 34 1/4" wide. 12" deep, and 57 1/4" tall. Bottom cabinet is 30 1/2" tall, the top cabinet is 23 1/4" Rare to find these door to open this way, and the bottom drawers. Here are some details on Mr Stiggleman and the company. In 1891 he moved to Wabash. And there became superintendent of the Wabash Church and School Furniture Company, where he was thus employed until the corporation met with financial reversed and finally went into the hands of a receiver. During his service there Mr. Stiggleman invented a device for cutting circular pews, but he never patented it, and in similar ... moremanner he invented many improvements now in general use, which he contributed gratis to the factory of which he was the superintendent. Among his other inventions was a school desk hinge for the iron standard desk. This he patented, and he later produced another hinge, an improvement on the first, which is now being used at North Manchester and probably in other places. Mr. Stiggleman was a heavy stockholder and the vice president and manager of the Peabody-Stiggleman Company, manufacturers of school desks at North Manchester for several years, he having organized the company. He also invented a folding chair, which was in vogue for some years, and is still being produced in certain quarters. A sectional bookcase, bearing his name, was also added to the list of his inventions, and the same is now owned by a large manufacturing concern at Peru. He also invented two kitchen cabinets with sliding table tops, which are being widely manufactured. This listing is for a gorgeous late 1950s Kaplan Furniture Company Beacon Hill Federal style inlaid mahogany secretary desk with bookcase top. The desk is in three sections and has three brass finials over the bookcase top. Tambour doors and a flip top writing surface. It comes with it's original bill of sale, original keys for both the drawers and bookcase and old photos of the desk. It is being offered for sale for the first time since it's original purchase back in 1959. The desk measures 80" tall and 37.25" wide. It measures 18.75" deep when the writing surface is flipped closed and 26.75" deep when the writing surface is opened. The mahogany has faded a bit over the decades. This is noticable on the writing surface where a blotter has covered the original color as well as on the bottom of the front part of ... morethe writing surface that would have rested on the pull-out supports. Both of these areas are visible in the photos. If you use a blotter and leave the desk open, neither of these will be visible.
