Antique Cape Cod Grain Painted Blanket Chest Trunk w/ Drawer DELIVERY AVAILABLE
This is a very clean great looking pine blanket chest originally made in the mid to late 1800's on Cape Cod. This chest is grain painted and has a drawer that is stained a fairly darker cranberry color. Really nice contrast to the amber color of the rest of the case. The drawer has the original brass pulls. And the hinges are original as well. The top is fastened to a board along the back edge of the case top. The hinges are recessed into the wood. Very cool. There are great square nails throughout this chest. The back is 2 wide boards, unpainted. Over all the condition is great, just a few minor nicks and scratches as you would expect on chests of this vintage. No rot or damage on the feet. The dimensions are 18.5 W x 43L x 34.5H. You are looking at an antique blanket chest which is at least 100 years old. Auctioneer stated it was over 50 years old at auction sale in 1959.and there was quite a bidding challenge. Was looking for a trunk.but we decided right away to get this chest when we saw it. I kept my quilts in it. Probably from Scandinavia we were told and that got me even more interested. It is pine and heavy.has dovetailed corners.Wood pegs.no nails, nice iron hinges, rope handles and is a whiskey colored wood. There are three curved pieces on the top.and on the inside there are two wide planks on the bottom. There is a key"plate"but there was no key with it. This cedar chest has been in my family since it was new. From the research I've done. It appears the date of manufacture is 10/06/1936. I have the serial number and style number. see photos) The interior is perfect(see photos. It would be worth a lot more money if refinished and possibly the lock replaced. The lock can easily be replaced and it still available for free due to a lock recall, so I just ordered one online and am waiting to receive it in the mail. A 19th century primitive pine blanket box with bootjack ends. It measures approximately 23-1/4" tall. 48" wide, and about 20-3/8" deep. We believe it is American and we do not know the maker. It almost appears to have been constructed of old flooring. There is overall normal surface wear commensurate with age and use, including plenty of dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture. We vacuumed out the interior, cleaned the exterior, and treated the exterior with Howards Restor-a Finish Mahogany and then with furniture oil. The insert on the front is leather framed with wood. And the image of a sailing ship is impressed in the leather. This piece is ready for you to use. Not a fixer up project, and all you need to do is add your clothing items. The largest board measures 15 3/4" x 1" The top pine boards are edged with 1" oak. The pine boards have through exposed tenons. The tenons ends can be seen through the oak edging as can hard wood pegs. The pegs are slightly protruding due to age drying. The side boards are constructed with hand cut dovetails. The lid is held in place by two hand wrought hinges and are attached with rose head nails. On both sides of the chest, the front and top lid there are hand painted designs. The designs appear to be a heart with floral patterns. These designs were hand painted with a"heavy loaded" brush and incised giving the appearance ... moreof carvings. The exterior, with the exception of the back, has the original blue/ green dark paint. The interior has the bottom board of the candle till on the left side; other components are missing. Also please note remnants of old paper at the board joints of the top. The lock hasp is present, but the lock is missing. The top lid's paint and designs are very worn due to the common practice of using these chest as seating. The boards of this chest are an early American forest cut due to type of wood used, minimal knots and width. The blanket chest has been lightly hand polished with a paste wax. One bottom board and the bun feet have been replaced at some point. There are three areas of old, inactive, insect damage. Also there are two older glue repairs at the candle till interior area. 19th C Antique Pennsylvania Blanket Chest Trunk Early Red Paint Dovetailed
Up for you consideration is an early large sized blanket chest with bible till and original tulip shaped- bun feet circa 1820-1840. It measures roughly 44 1/2" Long by 18 3/4" Deep and stands 25" tall. It made from popular. With bread boards through tendons end, on top of chest and very finely hand-made dovetails(no nails) The original hardware(except key) are still present and working order. I believe the brass key cover and stencil were added during Victorian era to update trunk, if you look into keyhole there a layer of dust, that would indicate they were not recently done. The Bible box and interior are in exceptional clean condition. Antique Rare Scratch & Chip Carved Blanket Chest From Maine Camp Can Be Shipped
This is a rare antique scratch and chip carved blanket chest from a camp located near Rockville. Maine. It is an amazing example of Maine Folk Art. The chest dates from the late 1700’s to the early 1800’s and shows traces it indicate that it was originally painted a salmon color with black highlights. The carving is wonderful and illustrates the deep Indian Heritage of this area of Maine. There is a sun carved in the center of the top of the lid and a hatchet carved in each corner. The edges around the top are carved in a ribbed pattern. The front of the chest is a carving of an Indian in a canoe paddling across a pond. The front outer edges. Along with the edges around the drawer are chip carved, very nicely done. The chip carved potions have traces of original black paint. The hinges are the original iron snipe hinges. The drawer pull is ... morebrass and may not be original. The drawer is nailed construction. There are several repairs to the chest and a replaced drawer slide. The lid is loose around the snipe hinges. This piece could use some restoration but the beauty is in the original carved decoration. There is no evidence that the chest ever had a till or other dividers inside. It appears that the wood could be Birch or Pine. The chest is 43” long x 17 ½” wide and 30” high. Rockville is located in Knox county. Just northwest of Rockport on a feeder creek for Chickawaukie Pond. Hinged; some inlay bits and one of the handles missing; main part of its original lock still in place. But its key ha s been lost to the ages. It can be used for storage or as a coffee table and similar; made of teak wood, which becomes stronger with age. It does not need much in terms of care: a water-moistened cloth is better than using any wood cleaning products. The sides are joined using ... morethe dovetail technique. Its decoration patterns originally came into Indonesia. Especially Hindu Bali, from Gujarat, India, in the 16 th century. The 3 photos of similar chests inside a display cabinet were taken at a royal palace( Kraton) museum in Cirebon. Java(Peti dari Mesir' means chests from Egypt) The m.o.p. ornamental patterns were used by Gujarati craftsmen for products mostly exported to many regions from the Middle East to Southeast Asia. These patterns bear some similarity to those found in the Ottoman Empire, which was also an export destination for this kind of chests. Beautifuly Renewed Vintage 1932 Lane Cedar Hope Chest, Blanket/Storage Chest
Absolutely Beautiful Renewed 1932 Lane Cedar Hope Chest. This is a really amazing chest with fantastic colors. Beautiful decor and is in great condition. It's a solid chest. Very well built and has stood the test of time exceptionally well. Overall, the chest is in outstanding shape considering its been around since before the big war. All the trim pieces are fully intact. The hinges are tight, the ornate feet are very secure, the inside is perfect and very aromatic. There are a few small pieces of veneer missing. One on the top right hand end, a very small piece on the top left side and a few slight chips across the back. I don't replace veneer but I do stain the underlying layer of veneer so the missing pieces don't stand out so much. This chest was definitely taken care of through the years and with good care it should remain ... morebeautiful for many years to come. This is truly a rare heirloom piece that would look great in any home. This chest has been renewed by numerous hours of polishing to remove the surface scratches and smooth out the deeper damage. After the polishing process. I rub it with rejuvenating oils then spray a few coats of clear to preserve the new-found beauty. What results is a chest that looks years younger. It does have a few minor chips and dings that you expect from such an old chest but they don't stand out after the renewing process. The lock has been disabled due to a Lane recall. 48" wide. 20.5" tall and 19" deep Serial# 236111. Built November 16 1932 The pics look good but I don't think they do it justice. This is a beautiful genuine antique Lane brand cedar lined hope chest which belonged to my grandmother. She was given this as a 9th grade graduation gift in 1952 from her mom and dad. I do not know the actual date of manufacturing only the year she was given it. According to the product information given below and the serial number. The date of manufacturing is 08/02/50. The color is a beautiful medium brown and made out of solid cedar wood and veneer on the outside and brown stain finish. This chest is very secure and sturdy. Henn Workshop's Blanket Chest Basket - 1997
This is a 1997 Gerald Henn Workshops basket. It was used to hold blankets. The basket is 15" tall; 29" wide; and 18" deep. I purchased the basket brand new in 1997 and it is still in nice condition. I have tried to capture a few of the flaws such as the bottom is slightly marked from setting on hardwood floors(see fourth picture) There is also a small amount of black ink on the one side(see fifth picture) The sixth picture shows the top stave on the inside of the basket; his stave split some time ago along the line where it was tacked to the basket. The lid is solid wood and in very nice shape. The only flaw with the lid is a slightly visible water mark on the top. See final picture. The entire box is all Hand-Dovetailed. It has a Chamfered Base. This particular box has inlaid antique hinges and escutcheon. But no actual lock. This box also has an antique-smooth finish. It measures 13 3/4" long, 6 7/8" deep and 8 3/4" tall. I am a 4th generation Master Cabinetmaker. Having trained under my uncle for several years. My specialty is in creating reproductions of antique tiger maple furniture.
