It's a beautiful trunk with tons of character and that true folk art flavor. Many trunks that were highly decorated like this were wedding trunks but who can know? It has a hinged lid as you can see in the pictures. The trunk has red white and blue with some green accents. The paint appears to be painted over what appears to be a green trunk that has some Romanian name lettering on the front. It was probably a trunk that originally came over by ship then painted by the owner after getting to America. This is all original and has nicks. Chips and scrapes, and worm marks on it as you'd expect from an item of this age. The painting on the front and sides is very colorful and worn through several areas to base color. Wow! That's amazing! The trunk is wonderfully hand painted. Inside. The trunk is clean. There's a little tray on the left side inside, and it still has the original cover or lid to the tray. One of the hinges on the lid of the trunk was replaced at some point but is still old. The hardware on the sides is old and ornate. There are no square nails in this trunk that we can see and there are a number of worm holes at the bottom of the front and under the front lip. This is typical for old trunks like this as they've been around the block(and world) It's an nice size and is 39" wide(at the lid) L x 16" W x 14" H. It weighs about 50 lbs. we'd guess. This is a very nice trunk for those of you who love Primitives or folk art. It's one of a kind! It would certainly make for an interesting conversation piece. Thank you for looking at this item. There is one signature covering upper panel appears to be" Jacobb_ and other covering lower panel, Michele or Michell? along with the date of April 29th 41' 95% sure of date) Appears there are middle initials and then what appears to be the same last name? wer? All original green, red and black paint finish with what appears to be a white gesso base/ ground. Chest is dovetailed front and back. Square nails. ... moreLidded till inside. I bought it for my big quarter horse who is halter bred, with a small head and I did have 2 of these and the other size Reg. fit him well. I was able to put the other one on him after his bath, just never used this one, so decided to put it on him one day and he wasn't interested, so there are a couple dirt marks on the hood near the black strap. This is straight from the James Gamble estate in Cincinnati. Of Proctor and Gamble. It is a very rare Oak Window Seat or Blanket Chest that has amazing carving and claw feet. The box has a lift seat and is in its original finish. The front has a carved Northwind face surrounded by carved oak leaves. The sides have carved oak leaves with a brass lion head ring pull. The back is finished just like the rest so it can be used away from the wall. There is a nice shell type carving around the top. The front has claw feet and the back feet are bunn feet. There are some stains in the top and the hinges have a little raising around them as you see in the pictures. The size is 36" wide by 20" deep by 22" tall. Beautiful ANTIQUE LANE CEDAR CHEST 1951 - Waterfall Art Deco - Blanket / Hope
This is a beautiful 1951 Lane Cedar Chest. It is done in the Waterfall style. With the different kinds of wood making patterns. This chest is marked with the Lane logo on the inside of the lid along with the original paperwork, dated Oct. 1952. The bottom is marked with the style number(2592-3M) and the serial number(157150) The manufacture date is the serial number backwards, so this chest was made 5/17/51. The inside of the box on the bottom is the pressure treated mark that also says, the only tested aroma tight cedar chest in the world" This cedar chest is in wonderful condition for its age. It has been well taken care of for many years. There are only a few light scuffs and scratches on the surface and a couple little broken pieces of veneer along the top edges. pictured) The feet are even in great condition. This chest does have ... moreits original lock still installed but no key. The latch mechanism has been recalled many years ago and the original locks need to be replaced. The latches automatically latch shut when closed and children can become entrapped. I was told that Lane will replace your lock for free but I do not know if that is still true. The lock will be removed before pick up, in accord with Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice requirements. Please check the pictures carefully and use them as part of the description. EARLY ANTIQUE FOLK ART PRIMITIVE HAND PAINTED DAPPLE BLANKET DOLL CHEST TRUNK* Up for auction is this unique little hand painted dapple miniature blanket chest. It is a sweet little trunk with splashes of small dots of paint on most of the outside. The lock on the front is long gone but it retains it's original hinges in the back. There is a split in the wood on the top of the lid that does go through to the other side of the lid- the chest is still sturdy! The lid of this trunk is slightly domed shaped but not so big you couldn't set something on top of it. There is a split in the wood on the bottom of this trunk that is slightly loose. There is a small chip missing out of the wood on the bottom right front of this trunk as shown in the pictures. This trunk is clean inside and no funny odors. There is edge wear. This vintage hope chest/blanket box has been in my family for over fifty years. It was given to my mother by an elderly friend in 1963. The exterior is a dark wood matte finish(it needs serious polishing to bring it back) Perhaps cherry, with a cedar interior. It has club feet and is meant to be set against a wall or at the foot of a bed. There are normal signs of wear and tear, which is normal for a piece of furniture in use for over half a century. I have sold my house- so this piece is now in a temperature controlled storage unit. Item has damaged veneer across the front. This is a Mid Century Modern style hope/blanket chest- mfg. date june 14 1962. this chest is in very good condition considering its age. Has a few minor spots on the outside but the inside is near mint condition. There is definitely nothing wrong with it, nothing that would make you say damn after you bought it. Due to safety regulations the lock or latch mechanism has been removed. It measures 43 1/4" long 16 3/4" wide and 19" in height. This Lane Chest was a wedding gift to my parents in 1940. Date of manufacture is the serial number in reverse.02/18/39 The interior is in"EXCELLENT CONDITION" The lid and all are structurally solid. This is in fantastic condition overall with some general signs of age and use on original finish. There are various scratches and spots of wear. As well as what appears to be a burn mark, indicated by the"white arrow on photo" then by the close-up picture, on the top surface. There is a small chip in the veneer on the front of the bottom lip, as indicated by the dark arrow in close up picture. These flaws should do little to remove from the overall appearance of the chest. Please examine pictures carefully, before placing bid. AMERICAN GREEN PAINTED PINE BLANKET CHEST. PENNSYLVANIA 19th Century with Dovetailed Feet Signed on bottom"Jonas Cros.y" and inscribed in lid"Amelia Saltsmon" Item# 1409AIU01P This is a wonderful early 19th Century painted blanket chest from Southeastern Pennsylvania. The surface dry and worn with an early green paint. The surface is plain and undisturbed with embellishment, the whole being deeply oxidized and full of charming wear. The construction is standard and uncomplicated, the exterior of the case crafted of six broad planks of Eastern White Pine, the sides and bottom joined with exposed dovetail construction. The base is affixed with a series of small pegs and the feet are delicate little brackets with exposed dovetailing to the front and sides. Likewise, the molding around the top is affixed with pegs set at regular ... moreintervals, the lid lifting on original wrought iron strap hinges affixed with mostly original screws. The original steel lock and catch survive in the case, though no key is available. The till is somewhat unique, the outer edge lifting in grooves on either side to reveal a compartment below the till- the lifting wall is not unusual, but this usually reveals drawers instead of this tidy compartment. The bottom of the case is inscribed in a now faded ink"Jonas Cros.y" the J and the C both being quite accomplished with extensive swirling. This form is easily incorporated into modern decor in so many ways. Including as a coffee table, an entertainment stand beneath a flat screen, while also working wonderfully in front of a period bed as it was intended. It is a striking piece that will certainly be cherished in your home for a lifetime. The measurements are approximately 27" tall, just shy of 58" wide at the widest point(which is the bottom) and 28" deep at the deepest point(which is the bottom) Though the European influence is apparent, we really do not know the region of origin or the maker of this piece. There is a decorative carved block of wood which has been lost(front upper left corner as you face the piece) The inner till box inside the chest has also been lost. The piece of wood composing the top of the chest has split, as have the hinges(please see photos) The locking hardware and mechanism has also been removed. The pegs holding the lid together are a bit loose, so the lid should be lifted with care. Amazing muted pastel flowers and weave throughout the entire blanket. There is no wrong side- one side has a predominant very soft green and the other a light greenish cream. The more you stare at it. The more beautiful you realize it truly is. It is in Very Good condition with minor stains to the satin border trim. Nothing disturbing or obnoxious. This is heavy and will keep you nice and toasty in cold weather. The weight is comforting leaving you feeling tucked in. Secure and warm. Antique Korean Blanket chest - Ornate Engraving - Profusely mounted - Added Feet
Floral City Arts Presents: Item: Vintage Korean Chest Medium: Metal and Wood. I think the metal is brass that has been. Cut, hammered and engraved. Not sure what type the wood is. The inside is lined with nice paper(please see images) Approximate Date: 19th or 20th. century Approximate Size: 38 inches high with the feet, 33 inches high without the feet 39-1/2 inches wide, 20 inches deep. Nationality: Korean Markings: Engraved designs on metal. see images) Condition: Looks very good. Some time. Probably mid 20th. century, four contemporary feet were added. These are clearly added with blocks of wood beneath and can easily be removed. There are some scratches in the top. Notes: We were at a local Estate sale recently and came away with many interesting items. Including this chest. According to his Granddaughter, the man who lived in the house ... morehad started a school in Korea in the early 20th. century. There were a lot of neat things from the Orient in the house! I don't know much about this type of stuff, but will do my best to describe it. From my google research, I think this chest is called a Bandaji, which is a blanket storage chest. It is profusely mounted with decoratively engraved brass panels. It also features a great 3 dimensional fish which is the lock. It comes with a Korean style key, that we figured out how to use with google, and it works great. The engraved and mounted details include, Roosters; flowers, birds and symbols. 18th Century Document Box / Miniature Blanket Chest w/ Frakturs / NR
This is a museum quality. 18th century leather covered document box lined with three hand colored frakturs. The pictures aptly portray its condition. Please look closely at the pictures of the box and the frakturs as I will not attempt to call every flaw. Its not perfect but once again it is in remarkable condition for a box from the late 1700's. The frakturs are done by Nathaniel Andrew of Salem Mass and dated 1790 and 1793 and the box is lined with newspapers and one picture clearly shows a date of 1790. The frakturs are all hand done. Each is hand bordered and each has a small water color painting at the top that depicts the subject matter. It measures 18" by 10" by 8 1/2" and appears to be totally original. I can only assume that the handle is original. Included is the original key. Also found on the inside of the lid ... moreis the original makers label, Joseph Gaven, Salem Massachusetts. You will not find another 18th century document box that has everything you'd ever want in one contained all in one box. The frakturs COULD be removed by a professional and restored for individual framing but the box is in totality a very valuable treasure in a remarkable state of preservaton. Sweet Older Oak Blanket Box Mule Chest From England W/Carved Trim Accents
This auction is for a super neat& unique older Oak Blanket Box/ Mule Chest from England. This is a very cool piece. The top drawer front is"fake" and the top lifts up so you can store blankets or other items in it. The bottom drawer is functional as a drawer. Both have pretty carved accented fronys of the faces of the drawers. Both sides have recessed panels. The top is made out of solid oak. This chest is very solid and a lot heavier than you would think and it could also be used for a coffee table. It's s tructurally sound and should last for at least another hundred years or so. It does not have any worm damage or burn marks. This chest is not new or a reproductions. It been around quite a while. The beveled top is 30" X 18 1/8" and it's 21 1/4" tall overall. The boddy of the cabinet is 28 1/2" ... moreX 16 5/8" The storage area under the top is 7" deep. The drawer is 24 1/2" X 5 1/8" deep. It stands about 3 1/4" off the floor. The drawer has the older type"wide dovetailed" joints used in making it. A WORD ABOUT THE CONDITION. The overall condition of this chest is good. All of our items have all been around for quite a while. We do not sell reproductions. This chest is Not Perfect, but is structurely sound and is a wonderful chest with super character, great eye appeal and will last another lifetime or two with normal use and care. The piece is made of a solid and heavy hard wood(I cannot make out what kind of wood) The drawers have dovetail construction with the inside wood being pine. MEASUREMENTS: The blanket chest measures 38 inches tall 40 inches wide and 18-1/2 inches deep. LET’S TALK CONDITION: Fine antique condition with a wonderful patina. Joyce's son cut our a piece which has been put back in place as he decided he wanted to make a stereo cabinet while mom was out of town. Some surprise; dad had to re-install the piece. EARLY ANTIQUE HAND FORGED IRON BLACKSMITHS TRUNK BLANKET CHEST LOCK AND HANDLES
This auction is for some early hand forged hardware from a chest or trunk. The lock is missing the sliding bar and one of the handles needs the ends hammered over as the original ends broke off that hold the back plate on. The lock is very neat in design and a good blacksmith could probably repair them.The lock measures 7" long x 4 1/8" wide and overall 2" thick. The handles are 6 3/4" long x 2 1/4" wide. Back plates are 3 3/4" long x 1 3/4" wide. Payment is expected within three days via PayPal. We are happy to combine shipping. We are easy to work with. IT WAS PURCHASED AT A MAJOR NEW YORK CITY FOLK ART SHOW MANY YEARS AGO. A FANTASTIC EARLY 19TH CENTURY MINIATURE BLANKET CHEST IN THE ABSOLUTE BEST"FANCY GRAINED" ORIGINAL OXIDIZED DARK GREEN AND BLACK GRAINED PAINT. This wonderful chest is from the New England Area and dates from about 1800-1820. THE FANCY GRAINED PAINT IS BOLD AND EXCITING. COMPLETELY ORIGINAL IT IS OVER THE ORIGINAL PALE GREEN BASE COAT AND THE GRAINED BASE COAT. WELL OXIDIZED AND STILL BRIGHT IT APPEARS TO MOVE AS YOU LOOK AT IT. THIS IS A FOLK ART MASTERPIECE. THE ORIGINAL HINGES ARE STILL PRESENT BUT THEY HAVE BEEN REINFORCED WITH AN ADDITIONAL SET IN THE LATE 19TH CENTURY. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST FANCY PAINTED PIECES WE HAVE SEEN IN A LONG TIME AND ON EBAY IN A VERY. VERY LONG TIME. The chest is 28" wide. 13" deep and 9 1/2" tall. It exhibits only the typical wear and tear you would see from 200 years of use as I have shown in the photos. There is two very old splits on the back top where the original hinges pulled out. The repair dates to about 1880 and is repaired with square head nails. This is a very minor condition issue and is invisible from the front. A truly great find especially in such fine condition and surface. Usually these are in poor shape and have been stripped of all their paint and patina. THIS CHEST IS MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. Unsure of age, maybe late 1880's. 16 1/2" height x 33 5/8" long x 15 5/8" deep. Measurements are approximate. Antique old used condition. Boards have space between them. Paint on the metal parts. Work, blue paper inside the box is worn and torn. Eschutcheon, key hole, from the front of the chest is missing. The lock part on the bottom section is present. Must have had fabric at one time as there are fibers on the tacks/nails on the edge of the box. Splinter of wood missing from the top edge of the box.
