It has a slot for a Bolt action mechanism on the right side so I guess something like a Palmer carbine might have called it home. I'm only speculating though. Very hard to find, antique wooden voting, or ballot, box. Stamped on the back, Property Town of Milo. Milo is a town in Yates County. NY. Settlement began around 1788 by members of the Universal Friends, a religious sect. In 1818, the town was founded from part of the Town of Benton, while still part of Ontario County. By 1820, the population was about 1,612. When Yates county was formed in 1823, Milo became part of the new county. Not sure of the exact age of the box but I did a little research and found that New York became the first American State to adopt the paper ballot for state wide elecions in 1889. Unable ... moreto verify the dates when the voting box went out of use but most sources say the early part of the 1900's. There is a piece of type on the front of the box with writing that says Milo 3 so appears it was at one time used in the 3rd voting district of Milo. NY. If you live in. Or near, this area it is a wonderful addition to a collection of local history. The box measures 7 1/2 inches high and is 10 1/4 inches front to back and 18 1/2 inches side to side. At one time there was a key lock but that is missing. It now has a metal clasp on which you could place a lock which has been part of the box for a very long time. There is no lock included with the box. It is in good to very good condition. No major problems with the box. It is strong and solid with dovetailed construction. There is some wear to the slot on the top of the box through which the ballots were placed. Looks like a bit of mice chewing in that area. Otherwise very good. Here we have a table I made that is one of a kind. The base is textured bent brass and is three legged with cast iron claws for each foot. The leg brace shown in photo 7 is cast iron and as you can see also very decorative. The table top is an old saw blade that is firmly held on place but can and will be taken off for shipping. But the use of snuff was allowed because the Chinese considered snuff to be a remedy for common illnesses such as colds. Headaches and stomach disorders. Therefore. Snuff was carried in a small bottle like other medicines. The snuff bottle is comparable to the snuff box used by Europeans. Tobacco was introduced to the court at Beijing some time during the mid- to late-16th century. It was originally smoked in pipes before the establishment of the Qing Dynasty. This is a listing for an antique Victorian carved coral cameo ring. It's unmarked and tested as sterling silver. It's a size 5.5 to 6.0 with a domed back. Which allows a little more room. The band is made from heavy sterling that is curved on the outside and flat against the skin. It overlaps and fuses together on the bottom, making the bottom of the band wider than the sides. The face of the ring measures 1 and 3/16th inches long. The ring curves or wraps around the finger, making it difficult to give a width of the face, but it's about.75 inches from side to side. It weighs a substantial 16.6 grams. The carved coral stone was cut into a long oval that measures 13/16th inches long and 3/8th inches wide. The coral is natural. In a deep salmon shade with small amounts of creamy white. The carved cameo is highly three dimensional ... morewith excellent detail. The stone has a beautiful polish and is in perfect condition. It was mounted in a smooth silver bezel and surrounded in a classic Art Nouveau mounting.
