And 40.5" long. There is some tarnishing of the tacks, and discoloration of the leather strip around a few tacks on the base only. We assume it was stored standing up on the base. It definitely has some slight mildew on the lower two drawers and the interior has a musty odor. From our research. It looks as though all the small parts and pieces are there. The history of each trunk dates back as early as the 1 800's. Each has its own unique story. While owning a trunk of your own. You can enhance the tradition and legacy with your own family. This is absolutely beautiful very nice decorative refinished dome top hump back steamer trunk from the late 1800's. The particular d imensions for this are 28" length. 16 1/2" width and 18 1/2" height. This beautiful trunk would make a great trunk for a college student to keep stuff in, or for someone to store old photo books in. To begin the restoration of this trunk we began ... moreby taking off the old canvas covering and all paper on the inside. Next we sanded the wood on the entire trunk. On the outside and on the inside. After all the sanding was done, we then applied coats of Polyurethane as the finishing touch to give the wood a nice shine. The trunk has some typical small stress marks and small stress cracks which are common in wood of this age. Next we painted all metal parts of the trunk with a black or gold leaf paint. We also found on the metal a patented date of March 16. 1872. We then attached 2 new Amish made black leather hand l es to this beautiful trunk. It retains all its Original Snap Closures and even the Old Locking Mechanism but it did not have a key. Inside the Trunk has a Wardrobe side on the Left for hanging formal clothes as would have been the case in Victorian times. The wardrobe side even has its Original Wooden Hangers that are built right in and an ingenious Slide Bar so you can decrease the area as the size of your clothing dictates. Below the wardrobe is a fold down box which we assume was for shoes. To the Right is a 4 Drawer Dresser with Drawers for even more storage. The drawers are all relatively narrow given the trunk's size but they are all Extra Deep! Outside. The trunk has a Black Leather like outer surface with Big Metal Corner Protectors on all Corners and all the Protectors are Intact! The black outer surface has some wear as would be expected but given the 100+ age of the trunk, it really is not bad at all. Antique Wood Wooden Chest / Marriage Box Trunk Hand Painted Flowers / Tulips
Hi. For sale an antique wood/ chest(circa 1800s/ early 1900) marriage box. I am not positive of the boxes origin but I believe this is Folk Art. There are hand painted tulips on the edges and hand painted white flowers used in early American art. The measurements are 17 inches wide or long. 9 1/2 inches in height, and 7 1/2 inches deep. The chest/ Box weighs 11 pounds. It does have wear which is to be expected for it's age. The paint on the flowers have faded in some places, there are a few cracks on the wood, one is on the bottom(does not go all the way through, and one is on the inside of the lid. Wood shrinks with age and cracks are normal. There are a few places where wood has chipped off(one on the foot) the lock is missing and there is a heavy patina especially the places that would get the most use(by the handles. The front side ... morehas a darker patina(see 2nd picture) than the back side, it was probably sitting up against a wall and was covered on the top. The feet did have felt pads at one time. The rivets(or nails) are old type nails. It is made very well, it is very heavy and sturdy and it closes fine. This trunk has all the oak slats on it over the canvas.I have yet to find another trunk with the canvas still in tact. Although I'm sure there are probably some out there. This trunk is in very good condition despite it's age. It's very large: 40" long, 27 1/2" tall, and 24 inches wide. It has three rollers in tact. Antique Metal Civil War Ammunition Trunk Has a few dents. But is old and was used. Outside looks like silver paint, inside coated with something copper colored. The top has gently curving corner on the front and back The Oak slats were softened in a steam cabinet and bent in a mold to fit the curves. Great Condition for its age. The metal on the lid shows some dents and dings but just character marks for it's age. Two original trays inside and the original lining is in great shape and does not need to be replaced. The leather is super thick and the trunk is reinforced at every corner and edge. Big brass studs and buckles accent the piece. Even the bottom of the case is studded in brass. I would think it's possibly English. But the there are no identifying marks to be found. Measurements are 40" x 23" x 14" high. The condition is excellent. Patina is excellent. LARGE ANTIQUE CONSTANT VUITON TRUNK STENCILED "ABBY BROWN/CONCORD, MASS"
Found in central Mass. this past summer is this magnificent trunk from the end of the 19th century. The name of Abby Brown from Concord. Mass. is stenciled on each end of the trunk, but the trunk is French, as the beautiful paper label on the inside of the dome top reveals. This label lists the name of one"Constant Vuiton, doing business in Paris; whether Miss Brown bought the trunk in Paris at the end of her Grand Tour[my guess only] or bought the trunk in the U.S. before departure for Europe isn't known. Regardless, her trunk made it back to Mass. There's a travel sticker on one end which reads: Paris/a Londres/CHARING CROSS/via Calais) and the remnants of a larger sticker on the other with part of the word"British" on it and partially obscuring her name on the other] The interior tray is missing, but the original ... morestriped paper covering is in remarkably good condition as is the ribboning around the label. And the trunk emits no musty or other foul odors. The trunk's wooden frame is covered on the exterior with gray canvas-what on Louis Vuitton trunks is called"Trianon" canvas from the 1858-1876 period. Which may, in fact, date this trunk to that earlier period. The wooden staves which cover the trunk's top, front and rear are most likely made of oak and are all in excellent condition with no breaks, splits, looseness or repairs. The brass nails holding them are all original as are the brass locks, but the key(s) are, alas, absent. The side handles are very solid and made of iron. The bottom is solid, too, exhibiting normal wear and retains three of its original four bead-like lead casters for ease of transport. Constructed from hand tooled leather. Over a cedar trunk, this Petacas is from the late 17 th or very early 18 th century. The majority of Spanish Colonial Petacas are from Peru and the thick hand tooled leather is decorated with regional flora. Animals and birds. The designs are then accented with paint along with detailed hand forged iron. The lock plate and long hinges are file-cut on the edges and the fancy lock hasp has a hooded figure at the top. This figure most likely is a hooded Spanish Monk. As nice as the outside looks there is a surprise on the inside. There is a painting under the cover depicting a shapard playing his flute while watching over his flock of sheep. In the background are the steep Andes moutains you would find in Peru. Measuring only 13in wide by 21in long by 8 ¾” tall this circa-1800 Leather Document Chest is in remarkable original condition. I found that some of the rose-head nails used to hold the lock plate and hasp were replaced years ago. The leather is near perfect and there you will see some of the original painted surface. This auction is for a very beautiful vintage dome top Steamer Pirate trunk. It has a very pretty pressed tin design(blue) mixed in with the oak wooden strips. It really makes a very pretty display piece It would look great in any area! It is a useable trunk. Both of the old leather side handles are attached still! The large front center hinge lock works fine but I do not have a key for this trunk. Both of the side front locks work well. There are no interior drawers. Still bearing a portion of an early gum sticker. The early turned and carved/engraved wood box appears to have been done from a tree branch or trunk. The outter rim of the box has the very thin bark. The lid was carved or engraved with Mt Fuji, a cottage, tree and a sailboat. Very unusual early piece of Japanese folk art. CONDITION: Very good although you need to know there are some slivers of bark missing from the outter rim of the box. There is also some wear of the finish. My scale computes to the nearest gram and it has been tested and calibrated. A note to silver scrappers: There are those on Ebay who will claim that the weight of an object is less than advertised and demand a rebate after the auction has ended. This is an ongoing trend and these individuals seem to complain if silver prices go down between the day they buy and the day they receive. When one melts silver one can lose as much as 5% of the weight in the smelting process and I can not be held responsible for weight lost after melting. I do not generally melt anything that is well made as it makes little sense to me. So any potential loss should be considered before purchasing my items. All my items are measured with a standard tape measure and are rounded off to the quarter inch. I attempt to be as accurate as possible.
