This doll chest is in good condition. It has definate aged appearance and patina. There are two areas on the inside where the wood is split to the outside(one on the top and one on the inside backing) scratches and faded areas of original black decorative decor. The bottom has a couple nails sticking out. There is rusting on the decorative brass fixtures. There is some fraying of the wood in various areas and some holes that do not protrude to the outside of the box. There are handles on either side of the box. It appears that the tray and handles were added and are not original to the chest. Very nice and decorative detail and appeal. Inside original interior paper is mostly gone. Measures 18" wide x 10 1/2" high x 7 1/2" deep on the inside with removal of the wooden tray. There is no lock for this trunk. Two beautiful handles on either side. Has wonderful metal features and attachments. Opens to a interior tray. Plenty of room. Color: Brown. Fantastic primitive appeal. Vintage Antique Trunk *You Grade**Great Resto Project!*
Up for grabs is an old vintage/antique trunk. I don't know too much about the trunk other than its been in storage in a basement for years. There are obvious signs of age and wear and tear. One of the metal fasteners on the side is cracked down the middle. The trunk itself and the cloth inside would need a good cleaning. I'm leaving the trunk exactly as is and I'm not attempting to clean it. I'll leave that for the professionals! The trunk measures 29.5' across 11' deep 19' wide. There are no markings that I can see to distinguish the brand. On one of the sides there is a faded tag that may give some clue to the history but I can't make out what it says. There is a tear on the bottom of the trunk. Please refer to the pictures to gauge quality. Lovely Antique,Primitive Salesman Sample Trunk Or Child's Trunk Late 1800's
I have up for sale today a lovely old trunk. I do not know if it is a salesman sample or a child's trunk. It measures 14 inches across. 8 1/2 inches deep and 10 inches tall at the highest point. It is estimated that this trunk was made in the late 1800's or early 1900's. It's condition is pretty good considering it's age. The original leather handles,usually missing in a trunk so old, is still intact. The interior appears to be all original. Still containing the original tray, something that does not usually survive. Stamped on the tray is"S.A.MAXWELL& Co 2595. I do not have a clue what this means. The hinges are original to the chest. The lock,while missing the snap, has the original key. Probably the best feature of this chest is the lovely old primitive robin egg blue color. It is reminiscent of a day gone ... moreby. Your mind imagines where this chest has been, the hands that handled it and oh, the silent stories it holds. It is hard to describe the condition of this little trunk. The pictures really do not do it justice. The worn wood slats. The patina of the paint, the waves of the metal all contribute to the charm. Please note,as I said before, the lock does not work, even though it has it's original key. I will leave the repair of that to the new owner. Also, I have not cleaned it up, this is the condition it was in when it came out of the attic. I have not set a reserve on this trunk. Fragments of which still remain. ... moreIf you restore this trunk, then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. I polished the exterior of the trunk and the slats look even better in my opinion. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. This trunk includes the Till. It is covered in paper which is chipping and peeling. I would remove it if you restore the trunk. The edges of the trunk are leather. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is well worn and frayed. With bits missing, especially along the edges. If you restore the trunk, one direction you can take would be to strip the exterior(and interior) of the covering and simply finish the wood underneath. The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are now gone. New leather is needed there. Inside. The fabric covering is badly stained and either should be removed and the wood underneath finished, or replaced. The interior smells musty and old, but not mildewed in my opinion. Antique Haskell Bros Leather Stagecoach-Auto Travel Trunk/Coffee Table Chest&Key
This is a rare find as you don't find sole tooled leather trunks made by the Haskell Brothers Trunk Makers of Chicago very often. The original wood strips and metal"feet" are in good working order. The lock was made by Excelcior Lock and has a patent date of 1864. There is a key which"almost" turns the lock and guessing some lubrication may fix it? I have done nothing to the leather except wipe the dust off. Straps are missing and one handle and strap retainer is inside the trunk. One end is stenceled'Rochester. Minn' Neat trunk which could be used to store bedding at the foot of your bed or even a coffee table(no inside odor) If refurbished it would make a nice travel chest on the back of your vintage automobile. Quite large at approximately 30 1/2" by 17 1/2" by 18 1/2" tall and it weighs approx ... more40 pounds. P lease look closely at the pictures. This is a very cool small 1/4 size steamer or travel trunk. Victorian era. The Trunk is wood trimmed(top and bottom) with metal riveted strips and a single keyed locking mechanism. NO KEY) I am not sure if this is a salesman sample or rather a box for toting elixirs, perfumes or other sweet waters etc. There are two small compartments with straps and you can see what looks like a ring from the bottom of the bottle that sat inside. It also sort of smells like perfume or something fragrant. I believe the paper is the original paper on the inside of the trunk. It has a beautiful lithograph of a woman on the inside of the lid and reads THE MC LILLEY& CO FOR THE SALE OF MILITARY AND SOCIETY GOODS COLUMBUS OHIO. This company was associated with Freemasons, Odd Fellows and other fraternity organizations, etc. so this could have been one of their ... moresales boxes. The original leather strap that was on the top is included however the leather loops broke off the top. the side is stenciled with red and says J.L. Colwell O'Neill, NEB. There were no other markings that I could find. Its really in remarkable shape with the usual wear, fading and rusting to the metal. It has GREAT patina. Measurements are 18x10.5x11 inches. A Vintage Wardrobe Trunk from the 1930s or thereabouts. Made of a rich chestnut leather. With brass fittings and a canvas interior. A wonderful item that would make a great coffee table. It's very solid and quite heavy. Made by American firm Leed's Tested Travelwear. This particular style is known as a'wardrobe suitcase' And came about in the 20s and 30s. When ship travel was giving way to air travel, and clothes also became less bulky and so smaller luggage was sufficient. It's a hybrid between the classic wardrobe trunk, and a suitcase, but still having the sections and hanging facilities of a wardrobe trunk. Hartmann’s version was called a“Tourobe. And Wheary’s a“Wardrolette" and they are designed to fit under a"Pullman" berth, in the sleeper car of a train. In the lid section there are two metal fold-out rods, made to take hangers. Nice Vintage Sample Trunk Made By H.W. ountree& Bros. Richmond. VA This is a wonderful antique sample trunk in good condition for its age. The trunk measures almost 9” high. 12” long and 8” wide. It has a lift out tray that features a compartment with a domed lid. The bottom of the tray is made of canvas and is coming loose. It was repaired at some point but needs more work. There is a vintage sticker inside the lid that describes the trunk and has the makers’ name. The lid does not have hinges. I’m not sure if it ever had them. The handles on the side are missing. The bottom. Sides and lid are all in good but worn condition. No holes or serious cracks are present. Please look closely at the photos and ask any questions prior to bidding. An AMAZING Antique Travel Trunk with Interior Beautiful Compartments made in 1800's in Racine. Wisconsin by M.M. SECOR, Proprietor established 1861, Northwestern Trunk& Traveling Bag Manufactory(Label inside Hat Compartment) Label indicates a Sales Branch at 189 State St. next to The Palmer House in Chicago, IL. Wood and metal trunk measures approximately 30 inches wide x 23 inches tall and 19 inches deep. Interior colorful picture compartments are in unbelievable condition with hooks. Snaps and clasps all in working shape. The trunk has not been restored and is in original remarkable condition. All I did was rub off the outside dust and lightly buff the metal to show the detail and condition of the trunk. Side leather handles are missing with leather stubs still inside their brackets- rope was used to replace the original leather ... morehandles but could easily be restored. The front leather strap to lift the lid is also missing; however the metal pegs to hold the leather still intact for replacing the leather. I could not find the clasp key; however the clasp and locking unit is in place. The two spring clasps are both functional to hold the lid closed. Please review the multiple pictures to gain an appreciation of the condition and beauty of this spectacular trunk. This vintage trunk measures 18 X 10 1/2 X 10 inches. It is quite sturdy-all joints are solid. The hinge that holds the top on works well. The lock button moves easily. I did not shut the trunk because I am worried that the key is not original and would not unlock the trunk. It measures approximately 25” wide. 19” deep and 20-3/4” high. There are no marks identifying a maker. One end has black painted initials“H.R. The lock maker is identified on the lock as“Yale& Towne Mfg. Co. Stanford, Conn. U.S.A. and carries their logo. There is no key included. It is being sold as found and untouched. The canvas cloth covering shows typical wear from use but overall in good shape. There are no cracks to any of the wood strips. All of the hardware is present and in good shape. Large Antique Domed Trunk, Unrestored, Built-in Hat Box
This large antique trunk measures 33" X 19" X 26" high. It holds an amazing amount of stuff and is great for storage. The built-in hat box is charming. As is the envelope for documents and letters. There is one tray that lifts out. The trunk has not been restored(I don't know what I'm doing and did not want to ruin it. It does show some wear of course, but the metal is not rusted and the trunk has never been in a basement(at least it has not for the last 70 years) so it does not smell musty. The leather handles on the sides are both gone.

This was my grandmother's and was used to cross the Atlantic between Montreal. Canada, and London, England around 1900. It has been in the family in storage since then. It is in excellent condition except a slight sag from trans-continental travel on United State Lines Cabin Class. Measures approx. 37" across. 21.5" back-to-front, and 25" high(from base to top of barrel arch) Made of vertical slats(approx. 1.75" wide) Has a compartment inside the lid. Two(2) Railway Express Co. stickers grace one end. Casters(original, I believe) on bottom. The amber glass coasters seen in the photos are NOT the casters; the amber glass coasters are there just to keep the trunk off the rug, but you can have them, if you like) One leather strap is missing; the remaining one is intact, but split. | | Antique Signed Goyard Steamer Trunk with Louis Vuitton Bag- No Reserve, Fresh from Duxbury Mass and up for auction is this antique signed Louis Vuitton steamer trunk. Measures 31 1/2 inches across by 22 inches deep by 19 inches tall. It has Goyard's famous chevron canvas. And is signed in all of the expected areas; Lock, clasps, interior label and side handles. Condition: The trunk is in sound structural condition. The leather trim is in very good condition throughout. There are seam lines showing through on the top lid. And there is some small missing pieces of canvas as well. It has it's share of bumps and bruises, but shows remarkably well for a trunk found in a closed guest house. Initialed illegibly on either side. On corner tack is off. The inside of the trunk is a bit dusty. But the only scent detected was that of talcum ... morepowder. It has a large interior basket, and an added tray that was added to the trunk at a later time. It is of no value, but I will leave it for the buyer. Finally. There is a Louis cotton eyeglass case in the the bottom the trunk that will go with it. I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story. This is a true no reserve auction. Antique 1880's Tin Trunk - Great Storage - clean and in ORIGINAL condition
Every once in a while I come across a trunk in original condition that looks fine just the way it is- with character dings and scratches. Bit of paint gone- but all in all with tons of character and battle wounds. This is one of those trunks. It is in very good condition- looks nice and rustic and is ready to be useful and functional in your home or cabin in the woods. Here are some specifics about this beauty. It has been completely cleaned on the outside, dusted with Pledge and dried with a clean linen cloth. I did not sand the slats or do anything to this trunk. It comes from a local home- where it has been lovingly stored for 75 plus years. The family came from Lithuania to the US and used this trunk for travel. Many trunks were made here in the US and then traveled overseas to come back again. The original lithograph of a woman is found ... moreon the center top lid. The tray is also original and in good condition. Paper inside as mentioned above is torn and stained- but after all, it is over 100 years old. There is no lid stay, but I would be happy to add a cloth one- very easy. Bottom is solid, with four little wheels to make it easy to move on carpet. This is a beautiful Rare Antique Chinese Hand Painted Box. It was sold at some point and tagged by Chinese Shop Duncan& Duncan Washington D.C. Chinese Arts. The box measures 18" x 10 3/8" x 7 3/4" tall. I was told it was paper mache when I purchased the box but it feels more solid then paper mache so I'm not sure of the material. Very well painted and a rare find!

What an awesome piece of history this thing is! It's in great shape. Considering its age and that it's probably traveled around the world. There is no key but I'm sure you can get a locksmith to figure that one out. 21" x 12" x 35" and ready for travel. Or as a display piece. Both handles are still in great shape and the hinges are all holding strong and intact. This is not a family heirloom so I do not know the history of it. There is a ladies name on an old sticker label on the side. This thing need to travel the world again and this time needs all the country stickers slapped on it like it was suppose to be. This is attractive distressed leather trunk from the first quarter of the 20th Century is a truly charming decorative piece. These are quite versatile pieces, originally designed to carry luggage, but today used flexibly in the home as a decorative piece in the living room as an incredible strike point coffee table in front of a large leather couch. As the side table between the sofa and another chair, as an end table behind a low sofa- possibly with a setup similar to the image above. The present example is a fine work that would originally have been prohibitively expensive, crafted of thick ... morecowhide leather covering the entire surface of the exterior and interior of the trunk, the exterior surfaces still fully original with a fine worn and distressed appeal. The straps are replaced, along with the handles along the sides, allowing this to be a more functional and sturdy piece. It is remarkably heavy, but with the replaced handles it is not a difficult piece to move around the home. It rests over small caster wheels, allowing it to roll if necessary. If you open the lid. The fitted interior is a complex formation of interlocking boxes and compartments, still retained though overall in rough visual condition. The opened lid has it's own compartment, held in with two brass slides that lock in on the right and left- this flips down for a large storage box. On top of this is an old torn label, presumably from the retailer of the trunk, noting" Baier" as the establishment at 26 South Second Street in St. Louis.
